Chapter 108 The Battle to Protect Our Marriage (5)

Chapter 108 The Battle to Protect Our Marriage (5)

The next day, Lin Langyi completely forgot about the snow lanterns on the terrace.

She woke up around noon. Her phone was on her pillow, switched to Do Not Disturb mode. When she opened it, her screen was flooded with private messages and work groups.

She replied to all the work-related messages, leaving the messages for Yuan Chuyu and Cheng Yanjin for last.

Between the two, she chose to reply to her fiancé first.

Y: [I've asked the driver to stay. He doesn't have any plans for the afternoon. After lunch, he'll take you to Yingshan Lake. Don't drive today, baby.]

Hmm... it was last night when her legs were about to cramp up, and this guy, as if he'd taken some kind of aphrodisiac, kept kissing her while offering constructive advice, saying, "You can put your arm around my shoulder."

Y: I'll come home early today to massage your legs; you've worked hard.

Lin Langyi was in a very good mood after eating and drinking her fill, and immediately agreed.

Compared to the intimacy in Yuan Chuyu's words, Cheng Yanjin, who is usually clingy and exudes pink bubbles regardless of the occasion, sent a cold message.

He only sent one message: "I'm waiting for you in your company's meeting room."

But before this message, he had 39 "retracted a message" notifications, most of which were sent between 4:00 AM and 6:30 AM, with the last five or six sent just before noon.

It looks like I haven't slept all night, I'm frantically sending and deleting messages one after another.

Lin Langyi didn't see any of them. She was both tired and refreshed, and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

However... she remembered that her phone was not on silent mode last night. Her fragmented memories included damp breathing and hot sweat all over her body. She vaguely remembered hearing message notification sounds, but she simply didn't have the energy to think about such trivial matters.

Lin Langyi held her phone in her hand and flipped through it, glancing at Yuan Chuyu's pillow, unsure if he had seen Cheng Yanjin's crazy live stream.

It wasn't until she saw Cheng Yanjin's WeChat profile picture that Lin Langyi remembered the "Valentine's gift" she hadn't had time to tidy up on the terrace. When she lifted the gauze curtain and went outside, the sun was shining brightly, and the flowers and plants on the tiered flower stand were lush and verdant under the sunlight. The thick, broad leaves were glossy green, and the lush vines climbed endlessly. There wasn't a trace of water anywhere.

The water from the melting of those eight snow lanterns had long since disappeared into the sunlight.

But the ice will melt, and the candle in the middle won't just disappear for no reason.

Lin Langyi stood there for a while, then went forward and searched around but couldn't find a single candle. Instead, she noticed that there were many more potted plants on the flower stand overnight, crowding around the terrace like a green birdcage.

Even the twin lotus flowers that used to grow on the living room windowsill have been moved here.

Isn't this a plant that's sensitive to strong sunlight? Is it appropriate to put it on a sunny terrace?

Lin Langyi knew this must have been Yuan Chuyu's doing, because without his permission, neither the aunt nor the housekeeper would have entered the room, not to mention that this pot of twin lotus flowers was Yuan Chuyu's prized possession, and no one was allowed to touch it.

This was a gift she casually bought when he suddenly invited her to dinner that evening via WeChat.

He had booked the entire restaurant in the message. At that time, the two had only been living together for a short time and were still in a strangely harmonious state of "Hey, hello," "Oh, you're welcome," and "It's okay, you go first." Following the old custom of attending social events, Lin Langyi casually asked who else would be there that night, and he replied, "It's our anniversary, so of course it's just the two of us."

Huh? What anniversary?

Lin Langyi was busy at the company at the time. By the time she saw the message, there was less than an hour left before the dinner appointment. She scratched her head to remember what day it was while searching for something that could be used as a gift.

Oh no! The office is full of pearls and pearl products. Giving pearls once or twice is fine, but she's practically turned it into a product launch. It's one thing if she can't answer a death sentence like an anniversary question, but I absolutely can't give her pearls this time.

Finally, she went to the nearest night market and bought a beautiful double lotus. Although she knew that the flowers in the flower and bird market probably wouldn't live long, the symbolism of being of one heart, one root, and one life was so easy to convey, especially for a rigid man like Yuan Chuyu who had never been in a relationship.

As expected, Yuan Chuyu was delighted with it. The gift he gave her was a pigeon egg, slightly larger than her twin lotus buds. However, because of her words, "I've been raising it since the day you took me home, but I haven't taken good care of it. So from now on, I'm entrusting both of us to you."

His calm and composed face suddenly froze for a second, his eyes and brows revealing a dazed and confused look, and his lips uncontrollably curved into a sweet and burdened smile, as if he didn't know what to do.

As Yuan Chuyu sat dignifiedly and solemnly accepting the twin lotus flowers, his sleeve accidentally pulled on the neatly arranged serving chopsticks. He had no choice but to use one hand to stop it, repeatedly saying "sorry" three or four times.

It's rare to see him so preoccupied with one thing and neglecting another.

Lin Langyi laughed out loud at that moment, feeling inexplicably closer to him.

Yuan Chuyu carefully accepted the gift, and said with a reserved and apologetic tone that the one-month anniversary gift he gave her was too tacky.

It turns out it was a month. I get the answer.

Furthermore, it's not vulgar at all. Who could call such a large pigeon egg vulgar?

A week later, it was confirmed that the twin lotus was indeed a plant that had been sprayed with pesticides. Lin Langyi looked at its fallen petals and thought it was going to die, but Yuan Chuyu never gave up and took good care of it himself. In the end, he actually managed to keep it alive, which was simply a medical miracle in the plant world.

Lin Langyi found the past somewhat amusing, so she casually took a picture and sent it over, adding the caption: "Let your beloved item, which is also our one-month anniversary, be exposed to the sun here?"

She sent the message but didn't get a reply for a long time. After changing her clothes, she checked her phone again and realized that she had sent the message to the wrong person. She had opened Cheng Yanjin's chat window.

Cheng Yanjin replied stiffly after ten minutes: "I'll remove it next time I come."

Lin Langyi simply sent a business-like message, "Sorry, wrong person," and forwarded it to Yuan Chuyu.

Y: [It was my oversight. There's a small umbrella on my bookshelf. Could you please help shade it from the sun, Zhuzhu?]

Lin Langyi knew which umbrella he was referring to. Her fiancé's hands-on skills were simply terrifying. He had pieced together the travel souvenirs she had brought back for him—notepads used for journaling—and made a small paper umbrella the size of a pomelo.

She found the handmade miniature umbrella on his bookshelf, right behind their wedding photo.

Lin Langyi hadn't looked at her wedding photos closely in a long time. These were taken with Yuan Chuyu on a trip to Iceland, in front of Vik black sand beach and blue ice cave. They even encountered a volcanic eruption that time, with lava flows flowing down the mountainside in the background of the camera, resembling a very powerful glacial torrent.

She was very satisfied with her wedding photo shoot, and the phrase "unforgettable" truly came from the bottom of her heart.

Yuan Chuyu was the same, but the words he used were more profound than hers: "unforgettable."

He always keeps his word.

Normal people would only print a few wedding photos as a token gesture, since everyone knows that wedding photos just collect dust and take up storage space at home. But Yuan Chuyu insisted on printing all the photos and displaying them in various sizes at home or hanging them on the wall. Even in his office, lounge, and reception room at Yingyuan Group, there were small photo frames on the table. It was practically a blatant act of product placement.

In his words, "The house is spacious, and there's plenty of room to hang things."

Lin Langyi knew he cared a lot about taking photos together, because the two of them could be considered to have a "flash marriage," and he had long been considering the PowerPoint-style photos to be played at the wedding. Compared to the countless memories that normal couples who have been in a long-term relationship have, there was practically nothing between her and him.

So he promised that the two of them would go to every corner of the world together, take countless wedding photos, and if wedding photos and vlogs couldn't compete, he would definitely have a memoir of several hours with her at her funeral.

It sounded like some kind of obsessive belief of sharing life and death. Lin Langyi always felt that her fiancé would occasionally reveal a bit of a morbid and gloomy obsession. Of course, she could tolerate his minor temper tantrums because of his face. He was an emotionally stable man who always managed to restrain himself well in time before she got upset.

Placing the handmade umbrella behind the wedding photos was a stroke of genius. At least at this moment, she was willing to break up with Cheng Yanjin and could temporarily tolerate Yuan Chuyu arranging for a driver to pick her up and drop her off at get off work. It was a kind of stress response behavior that was called caring but was actually monitoring her schedule.

At that time, Lin Langyi felt that this was only temporary. After all, the eight candles could only have been disposed of by him without his knowledge. He did not make a fuss or get angry at her. This was Yuan Chuyu's style of handling things.

...

When Lin Langyi arrived at the company, it was past lunch break. She took the elevator to the eighth floor, with Zhou Mi's high heels clicking beside her as she raced against time to report the list of people from the Cheng family who were coming today.

"President Cheng's arrival was unexpected, but he only asked about routine cooperation matters from recent years. The marketing department had already received him this morning, and he had no objections. He just wanted to see you while he was at it."

Lin Langyi hummed in agreement, Cheng Yanjin's face appearing in her mind. She turned and stepped into the reception room, where the long-awaited guest turned out to be Cheng Yangkang.

His previously furrowed brows relaxed abruptly the moment he saw her, and he quickly stood up and took a few steps forward to greet her: "Chairwoman Lin, I apologize for the abruptness of my visit today. I hope it hasn't disrupted your schedule?"

Lin Langyi's gaze swept quickly over. Cheng Yanjin sat in the back with his head slightly lowered. His eyes seemed even more swollen than when she saw him yesterday. He raised his head when he heard the voice. His light pupils were hazy and indistinct, as if they were misty with water vapor.

She quickly looked away and exchanged a few polite words with Cheng Yangkang.

"There were too many people yesterday, and we didn't provide a proper welcome. Please join us for a small get-together with Mr. Yuan another time when it's convenient."

Cheng Yangkang was unusually polite today. Not only had he waited for so long, but he also put himself in a very humble position in his words. Lin Langyi sensed something was amiss and glanced at Secretary Zhou several times.

Cheng Yangkang said, "Although we started out in the pharmaceutical industry, we have put a lot of effort into the jewelry and skincare industry over the past ten years. Our cooperation with Ying Shanhu has always been very pleasant, especially in the jewelry sector. Thanks to you, we have been able to develop on par with Ying Yuan... I just don't know why Ying Yuan changed his tune overnight."

Lin Langyi frowned slightly: "What do you mean?"

Cheng Yangkang was uneasy and cautiously observed her expression: "Didn't President Yuan tell you? Ying Yuanfang informed us this morning that the cooperation is temporarily suspended."

Lin Langyi clearly saw Cheng Yanjin sitting behind her tug at his collar with his fingers, a mocking and disdainful smile appearing on his lips.

What Cheng Yangkang cares about most is Lin Langyi's intention. The jewelry market that Cheng's family and Yingyuan compete in is not entirely the same. Yingyuan's sudden move is not likely to be a major blow to Cheng's family, but if Ying Shanhu and his wife follow suit and block the supply channels, it will be quite troublesome.

"I'll ask him about it then." Lin Langyi knew exactly what Yuan Chuyu meant. She was just surprised that this man, who seemed to have been coaxed into submission late last night, turned on her as soon as he got out of bed, still determined to seek revenge.

But when he plays the villain, she naturally plays the good cop:

"However, you don't need to worry too much. I don't get involved in the operation and management of Yingyuan Group, and similarly, he won't interfere with Ying Shanhu."

With this assurance, Cheng Yangkang's facial muscles finally relaxed. Lin Langyi then casually mentioned that Yingyuan's business strategy was quite complex and that it was probably just an adjustment of policy, not targeting the Cheng family. This finally put a weight off Cheng Yangkang's mind.

He had to leave first, and when he turned around, he saw that his son, Cheng Yanjin, was still sitting casually on the sofa with his arm resting on the armrest, showing no intention of getting up.

Cheng Yanjin said expressionlessly, "This is my first time at Yingshan Lake, and I would like to discuss things further with Miss Lin."

Since he had come uninvited, Cheng Yang was afraid of disturbing Lin Langyi and was about to refuse when Lin Langyi said, "It's fine. We made an appointment yesterday, and we have a whole afternoon to talk things through."

With a hidden meaning in his words, Cheng Yanjin's eyelids twitched, and he stared straight at her. He slowly pulled back his long legs that had been stretched out in front of him, sat up from the back of the sofa, and rested his elbows on his thighs without saying a word.

The door closed again, and Lin Langyi pressed a button to turn the transparent glass into a frosted state.

She cut to the chase: "My husband already knows about what happened between you and me. As you can see, he's not the type to swallow his anger, so we should—"

"What does it have to do with anything?" Cheng Yanjin interrupted her abruptly, his eyes slightly bloodshot. "I'm the kind of person who swallows my anger."

After a few seconds of silence, Lin Langyi uttered a few words: "That's enough."

“I’m not lying.” Cheng Yanjin’s eyes must have hurt a lot, he blinked frequently, and as he said this, he raised his hand to press on his eyelids. “Lin Langyi, I left after yesterday, but I didn’t leave right away. I was on the terrace, and I wanted to turn around and leave immediately, I…”

He loosened his hands and covered his eyes, rubbed the back of his head haphazardly a few times, then covered them again with his hands. His lips parted slightly and trembled a few times before finally closing tightly. In the silence, his Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed his emotions.

After taking a few deep breaths, he said, "I know you don't care about me at all, I understand that perfectly well."

“I stood outside and helped you hide those eight lamps behind the flower stand. The melted ice water dripped onto the wooden board, and I caught it with my hands because I was afraid you would hear the sound and be afraid of being discovered by him.”

"Later, when it was full, it seeped out from between my fingers and dripped onto the ground."

He removed his hand, his eyes, which seemed to be swollen beyond repair, looked at her mistily and said, "I feel like I've lost all my temper; I can accept anything."

"Didn't you buy me a bell before? When my mom was still alive, we had a dog together, a big golden retriever. It would bark as soon as I put it in its cage at night, and it would bark for five minutes before finally quieting down indignantly. The next day, it would be happy to take me for a walk."

“I feel the same way. I won’t trouble you, but you can’t lose your dog. If you drive your dog to the middle of nowhere and lose it, it will be very sad and will spend a lot of time trying to find a way back.”

"Just think of it as having a dog that can't come inside. It won't take up your space or destroy your house."

Seeing a handsome and dashing man in front of her like an abandoned dog, crying and trying to win her back, it's really hard to say anything harsh. But Lin Langyi is someone who always responds better to gentleness than force.

She herself didn't realize that her tone had softened unconsciously: "My husband and I have a very good relationship."

"If we had a good relationship, how would I have had a chance?" His words made Lin Langyi feel extremely guilty. Cheng Yanjin placed all the blame on Yuan Chuyu without any explanation, "It must be that he is not good enough."

"Besides, aren't there many families who keep two dogs, or even just a cat and a dog?"

Is raising two husbands the same as raising two dogs?

Putting aside the reasons why Cheng Yanjin is so determined to be a dog, after being persuaded by his unwavering conviction a few more times, she would be convinced.

Cheng Yanjin said, "You don't need to persuade me to turn back now. I've always been the type of person who won't give up until I hit a wall. Once I've made up my mind, no one can change it. Even if you think I'm wrong and you're right, I'll still go down this path to the bitter end."

Lin Langyi felt a headache coming on. She knew his bad temper. Back when he was skiing in Switzerland and jumped off a cliff, he mentioned that he used the wrong method to speed up when he was learning to skateboard, and it wasn't until he broke his leg and lay in a cast for half a year that he finally corrected it.

She said incoherently, "You just need to break your leg again."

Cheng Yanjin understood instantly. He raised his chin and said, "If he's so capable, let him come and break my legs. I'm waiting."

“He really will.” Lin Langyi said seriously, “Stop barking like a dog all day long. Yuan Chuyu is not someone to be trifled with. Don’t say these things in front of him.”

He had a cocky look on his face, his eyebrows raised: "He can't beat me."

Seeing Lin Langyi frown unhappily, Cheng Yanjin quickly composed himself and whispered, "Even if you interrupt me, I won't leave... I'll crawl to your bedside to complain to you."

When moral persuasion proved ineffective, Lin Langyi turned to adult topics, using financial incentives to persuade him: "Look, we can't sneak around anymore. Ying Yuan gave you a rude awakening early this morning, and this is all real money."

"Do you think I need his money?"

Lin Langyi stared at him expressionlessly, remembering that this stubborn guy was a spoiled brat.

Cheng Yanjin was proud and unyielding on this matter, and was not afraid to reveal his past to her: "My father just doesn't want to let go of any pot of gold. At most, Yingyuan and we are just competing for that little bit of market share in the jewelry industry. Take it or leave it. So what? Are we going to starve to death?"

He was away from the country for most of the year, but when he came back, he really went through the company's business in detail: "It's just one of the business lines. Our original pharmaceutical business alone is enough to support several generations."

Lin Langyi crossed her legs and leaned back on the sofa: "Oh, so if I marry a chicken and follow the chicken, or a dog and follow the dog, and I don't do business with you anymore?"

Cheng Yanjin's mouth flew across the page while his mind raced behind, and he quickly said, "No way, what excuse do I have to sit here and talk to you? You probably won't even open the company door for me."

Seeing Lin Langyi's teasing expression, he quickly changed his tune: "I just think that in this new era, we can't become Siamese twins as soon as we get married like before. We still need to have each other's space, especially when it comes to things that involve our own interests. Look, what you earn is all yours, but does that mean what Yuan Chuyu earns is necessarily yours?"

"Yes, most of his shares have been transferred to my name."

Cheng Yanjin: ...

He didn't get discouraged; instead, he found a new way to solve the problem: "I'll pass it on to you too."

"...? Don't go crazy."

"How can this be called going crazy? This is called handing over your salary card. Besides, why do you only want his and not mine? If you drop two hundred-yuan bills on the street, why do you only pick up one?"

"Alright, that's all I have to say. You should go now." Lin Langyi stood up, not intending to waste any more words on this naive and innocent girl who had been sold out and was still helping her count the money.

Cheng Yanjin couldn't hold her back. Even though he had the legitimate slogan of "deepening cooperation between the two parties and smoothly handing over the work," Lin Langyi obviously had other company affairs to attend to, so he could only stare at the marketing department managers.

Right on time, right up until the end of the workday, there was a low-key and unassuming Bentley waiting in front of the company. Cheng Yanjin immediately recognized that it was a car registered under the original Chu Yu's name... How ridiculous, only the person in charge is allowed to investigate him, but the mistress can't turn the tables and investigate the wife instead?

Lin Langyi's meeting was extended by more than half an hour, and by the time it ended and she got off work, it was already late. When she got downstairs, she found that the person who had come to drive her today was Yuan Chuyu.

He did say this morning that he would be home a little earlier today, but I didn't expect him to come home so much earlier, even before she could leave work.

It was rush hour, and many company employees were leaving through the main entrance. Yuan Chuyu didn't wait in the car, but instead stood gracefully by the car door waiting for Lin Langyi to get off work.

He visited Yingshan Lake quite often while pursuing her, and even did things like treating the whole company to coffee, which had ulterior motives. As a result, most of the employees had seen him, and the rest had seen his face in news interviews. Hearing that he was easy-going and gentle, everyone was happy to greet him.

Only someone like Yuan Chuyu could maintain his good looks, impeccable attire, and tireless appearance after get off work, exuding a mature and composed air of high intelligence. The scene of him smilingly greeting passersby truly deserves the description of "a beautiful woman in a luxury car".

Lin Langyi was spotted by him from a distance before she even stepped out of the gate. He immediately ended his conversation with the person next to him, said goodbye, and came to greet her.

He naturally took the bag from her hand, put his arm around her waist, and walked with her to the car, asking her as if he were picking up his daughter from school, "How was your day? Did you have fun?"

Du Jing turned around, winked at Lin Langyi, and quickened her pace to slip away.

Lin Langyi got into the passenger seat: "I'm sure you'll be happy to see me."

Yuan Chuyu then gave her a charming smile, closed the car door, and walked around to the other side to get in the car.

Lin Langyi's gaze lingered on him, and as he slowly turned his head, she subtly glanced at the window on the second floor of the company.

Facing the window in this direction, Cheng Yanjin stood there resentfully, watching her and her fiancé being affectionate the whole time. Just before leaving get off work, he lingered outside her office wanting a "farewell hug," but she ruthlessly retorted with a few hurtful breakup words, making him cry again.

Right now, he was in a terrible mood, but he just couldn't help but watch Yuan Chuyu take her away, tears streaming down his face as he clung to the window and stared intently. The more he watched, the more he cried, and the more he cried, the more he watched.

As soon as the car started, the door automatically locked with a "click". Lin Langyi opened the fruit cutter that Yuan Chuyu had prepared in advance, used a small fork to pick up a piece of dragon fruit and put it in her mouth, as if casually mentioning: "Cheng Yangkang came to see me today, afraid that he would lose his job."

Yuan Chuyu kept his eyes on the road ahead, gently turned the steering wheel, and drove into the lane at a steady speed: "Did I disturb you?"

Lin Langyi forked another piece of grape and twirled it in front of her eyes. The image of Cheng Yanjin stiffening his neck, biting his lip tightly but unable to control his tears from incontinence appeared in her mind.

What he didn't know was that his tears were different from others. They were a mixture of resentment, anger, and resistance. When the tears flowed, the muscles on his face were still tense and taut. When he took a deep breath, the veins on his neck were clearly visible, and his chest rose and fell. His superior muscles were like a hard, violent weapon that could easily control a person and pin them to the ground.

But ironically, he has a pair of round, clear eyes that are prone to tears. When his eyes are red, he looks as fragile as a crumpled piece of paper, completely harmless.

Because of this contrast, she even watched his tears with a sadistic mentality.

Yuan Chuyu beside her seemed to say something, but Lin Langyi didn't hear it clearly. Following up on the previous topic, she said, "Isn't that a bit unnecessary?"

The man in the driver's seat seemed to turn his head and glance at her indifferently. The car, which hadn't been going too fast, emitted a faint hum as he stepped on the gas and drove onto the overpass. Compared to the traffic lights every kilometer below, vehicles could speed along the overpass at will.

The scenery on both sides rushed past. Yuan Chuyu did not answer the question directly, and Lin Langyi added, "There's no benefit to breaking ties with the Cheng family. It's not worth doing something that harms others and yourself."

Suddenly, a car changed lanes and squeezed in from the side. Yuan Chuyu touched the ground with his toes, and the high-speed vehicle braked suddenly. The things inside the car were thrown forward a short distance due to inertia.

Lin Langyi quickly protected the fruit cutter on her knee and blurted out, "Be careful."

Yuan Chuyu sat very steadily, his expression unchanged. He slid his left hand to the side of the steering wheel, and with the back of his fingers, he pushed forward, turning the headlights into high beams and shining them on the car in front.

The light seemed to briefly reflect in his dark pupils for a second before quickly disappearing. He said in a flat tone, "Yes, I understand. I was inconsiderate. But I wasn't acting rashly. Recently, Yingyuan wanted to bid for a piece of land in the eastern suburbs of G City, so I wanted to secure some cash flow, which is why I was competing with Cheng's for market share."

Lin Langyi didn't say whether she believed him or not. Rather than analyzing his reasons, she had a simpler way to solve the problem.

"It's very sweet." She forked a grape and brought it to his lips.

Yuan Chuyu glanced at her again while driving, paused for two seconds, and then honestly lowered his head to eat.

Lin Langyi leaned over, resting her chin on her elbow on the central armrest, and watched with a smile as his Adam's apple bobbed as he chewed.

She had just swallowed a strawberry when she forked another one, bit off the tip, squinted, and mumbled "sour." Then, with perfect ease, she held the half-eaten strawberry to his lips: "Here, have some, it's so sour."

As the car slowed down, the expression on his face finally softened a lot. His gaze lingered on the wedding ring on her ring finger, and his eyes suddenly softened. He ate the sweet and sour strawberry from her hand.

"Is it sour?" She put the fork in her mouth and watched triumphantly as his eyebrows furrowed slightly from eating something sour after eating something sweet.

"fine."

Lin Langyi raised her eyebrows and said in an exaggerated manner, "Are you okay? I feel super sore."

After getting off the overpass, Yuan Chuyu slowly stopped at the red light, turned his head to look at her leaning halfway over, and actually reached out and briefly tugged at her straightened seat belt before letting go, which snapped back with a "snap".

"Sit still."

Lin Langyi sat back down slowly with a smile, and pressed her advantage, saying, "You're busy too, so you don't need to pick me up and drop me off after this period."

Yuan Chuyu remained noncommittal.

*

Cheng Yanjin is indeed a person with a relentless and unyielding personality. When Lin Langyi first met him, she knew he was a passionate and free-spirited person who loved and hated intensely. She just wanted to try out this kind of endlessly burning love, but of course, she gave him a time limit.

Originally, all that was needed was to keep things quiet. Yuan Chuyu's suppressed dark and negative emotions were well controlled, like the sudden stop after stepping on the gas on the overpass. He was a man of principle. Although he would occasionally try to appease her by asking for excessive comfort, his obsessive and possessive symptoms had also lessened considerably since she took the initiative to avoid Cheng Yanjin.

But the peace was shattered when Bian Shu appeared in front of her company and was unexpectedly hit with a brick by the Zu brothers, who came to seek revenge.

What's more troublesome is that Cheng Yanjin, that idiot, even stepped in to take the fall.

A normal person's body is 70% water, but his body seemed to be 70% adrenaline. I don't know where he got the courage to catch two people with bare hands.

He had won; before being stabbed, he had already hammered the man into the ground. If it weren't for her saying, "I've already called the police, don't beat him too much and get yourself involved," and Cheng Yanjin had obediently stopped and followed her around looking for rope to tie the man up, he wouldn't have been stabbed by the heartless Zu Changyun during that brief moment of distraction.

Lin Langyi was terrified and desperately covered the bleeding wound for him, making one call after another for help. Her phone screen was smeared with blood, and she then realized that the blood that came out when the knife was pulled out had also splattered on her, just like Cheng Yanjin, warm and moist.

When the ambulance arrived, she anxiously stayed by Cheng Yanjin's side, explaining that she had been hit on the head and that it would be best to go to the hospital for a check-up as well. The two got into the same ambulance.

Cheng Yanjin's face was a little pale, but he didn't stop talking, repeatedly asking Lin Langyi: "Is this guy on the stretcher next to me your new love? I can accept that you dumped me because of Yuan Chuyu, but if you dumped me because of Xiao Si, I'll tie him up with a rope."

The doctor took his blood pressure and said sternly, "Quiet."

Bian Shu held his head, still feeling a bit dizzy. Lin Langyi suspected that the brick had been quite powerful, otherwise it would be hard to explain why the usually taciturn man would be fooling around with Cheng Yanjin at this time.

He argued, "I am not a mistress."

Cheng Yanjin was like a talking duck toy; as long as someone paid attention to him, he would keep babbling on and on, never willing to end the conversation. He looked completely disbelieving: "Your eyes were practically glued to her when you said that. Have you no shame?"

"Shut up." Lin Langyi's trembling heart, filled with worry, was calmed by these two people. Her face was expressionless. "I'd be happy if they were all dead."

Cheng Yanjin's eyes immediately cleared. Lin Langyi hadn't loosened her grip on his hand while scolding him, only pulling away when the doctor was treating him. Both of their hands were covered in mottled bloodstains.

He glanced at it twice, regretting that he couldn't have the parents put their handprints on the same drawing board like when welcoming a newborn, otherwise it would have been a truly memorable matching item for couples.

Cheng Yanjin was lost in thought when he saw Lin Langyi holding her phone, looking troubled. He remembered that she had called the police and an ambulance and then called Yuan Chuyu, thinking that she was waiting anxiously for her fiancé. Suddenly, he felt as if his wound had been violently sawed open by a saw, and the spasmodic pain rose sharply.

He groaned a few times, trying to awaken her conscience. Lin Langyi put down her phone again, looked at him, and hesitated: "Shall I call your family?"

"don't want!"

He flatly refused.

Lin Langyi frowned and remained silent.

She knew about his family's messy affairs, and she also knew that apart from being able to barely praise Grandpa Cheng as "a loving grandfather and a filial grandson," he was completely out of place with everyone else.

He probably wouldn't want to see his family members causing him distress while he's sick.

But she didn't expect that the factors Cheng Yanjin considered were completely different from what she had thought.

When he told his family, he was immediately isolated and transferred to one of their hospitals. They hired a caregiver and a lawyer to follow up. Lin Langyi handed him back to the old man like Bai Di had entrusted his orphan, and then never came back.

"My wound isn't deep," Cheng Yanjin said defiantly.

Lin Langyi didn't believe it and planned to wait for the doctor to do an evaluation before saying anything.

When Yuan Chuyu rushed over, Cheng Yanjin, that tough guy, had already been wheeled into the operating room. Luckily, he reacted quickly and grabbed the other man's wrist when he was stabbed, so the knife didn't damage any of his internal organs.

"How are you? Are you hurt?" Yuan Chuyu, his breath unsteady, half-squatted in front of her, cupping her drooping head with slightly trembling hands to examine her. His pupils constricted when he saw the blackened bloodstains on her chin.

"I'm fine." Lin Langyi was just tired after the shock. She finished explaining the situation in a few words, but Yuan Chuyu noticed another small detail.

For a fleeting moment, Lin Langyi clearly saw him seemingly silently utter the words "Bian Shu," but upon closer inspection, he only softly reassured her, "I'll take care of everything, don't worry."

Before Lin Langyi could stop him, Yuan Chuyu had already called Cheng Yangkang.

Cheng Yangkang had tried to find Yuan Chuyu many times, but was always put on hold for various reasons. Now, when he heard that Cheng Yanjin was suspected of being injured because of Lin Langyi and that the injury was not serious, he immediately felt that his son's injury was a timely help after comparing the costs and benefits of both parties.

Yuan Chuyu was extremely sincere, even thoughtfully offering to send Cheng Yanjin to W City by private jet to receive the best medical services and cover all expenses. As for the Zu brothers, he would naturally make them give an equivalent price.

W City was too far away, but that wasn't the main reason Cheng Yangkang refused. The kind of favors that can only be repaid indefinitely can have the greatest effect. He knew perfectly well whether it was a single meal or a constant feast.

Cheng Yangkang waved his hand and smiled: "Yan Jin is just a loyal and straightforward person. It's alright, as long as Miss Lin is safe and sound."

As he was making excuses, the operating room lights went out, and Cheng Yanjin was wheeled out. His physical condition was indeed extraordinary; the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet when the door opened, but he was already fully conscious.

The tubes inserted into his body could stop his restless movements, but they couldn't stop him from immediately searching for Lin Langyi's pupils in the crowd.

Seeing that she was still waiting outside and hadn't left, he still had the energy to grin at her.

The Cheng family surrounded the hospital bed. Cheng Yangkang recounted Yuan Chuyu's attitude earlier, and Cheng Yanjin immediately cast an approving glance at him.

This dad can be reliable sometimes. Why go to W City? Yuan Chuyu is playing the Cowherd and Weaver Girl game, he'd rather die than go.

"I'm fine," Cheng Yanjin said, feigning nonchalance. "My dad is right, I'm relieved that Miss Lin is alright."

"The doctor advised us to rest and recuperate, so we won't bother you any longer. We'll come to express our gratitude another day," Yuan Chuyu said, having just wiped Lin Langyi's face and hands clean with a handkerchief. As he spoke, he slowly crumpled the dark red handkerchief in his hand, his smile cool.

When Cheng Yanjin saw his smile that didn't reach his eyes, he had a bad feeling and frowned, wondering what he was going to do.

Yuan Chuyu looked down at him, but spoke to Lin Langyi: "I'll go to W City with you tomorrow."

Cheng Yanjin's smile froze instantly.

Lin Langyi glanced at Yuan Chuyu and hummed in response.

Cheng Yanjin stared wide-eyed, feeling as if struck by lightning!

What does that mean? So Yuan Chuyu, that two-faced scoundrel, knew from the beginning that he would refuse to go to W City, so he set a trap for him!

He was both angry and regretful, feeling as if he had swallowed a headless fly and his heart was heavy. He still wanted to keep Lin Langyi to see if there was any turning point, but she was also hard-hearted and immediately kept her distance from him after seeing the Cheng family arrive.

Cheng Yanjin's hand remained suspended in the air, waiting idly. Whenever he had a chance, he would turn his head towards her and cry out in pain. Everyone around the bed came forward to offer their concern, except for her.

He watched helplessly as Yuan Chuyu led her away.

"Just to be on the safe side, I'll have a doctor come to the house to give you a check-up later?" Yuan Chuyu's coat was still draped over Lin Langyi's shoulders, and he spoke in a gentle and tender tone.

Lin Langyi nodded absentmindedly, and after walking more than ten meters down the long corridor, he suddenly stopped.

She looked up and said quickly in an announcing tone, "Bian Shu is still in the ward. I'm going to see him."

Yuan Chuyu's hand, which was wrapped around her waist, was pulled away by her. His eyelids twitched slightly, and his gaze remained calm, without saying whether it was good or bad.

Lin Langyi's idea was simple: Cheng Yanjin had plenty of people to care for him, so the young master didn't need to do anything himself. But Bian Shu was all alone, and he might not even have enough daily necessities for hospitalization.

"I'll be there in about half an hour... well, at most an hour. You can wait for me in the car."

She left him with those words, then hurried away.

The cold, white overhead light shone down on the corridor. The tall man stood there, his face indifferent and expressionless, exuding a deep, deathly atmosphere.

He stood motionless for a long time before finally taking a step and walking in the direction she had left.

...

Lin Langyi's condolences to Bian Shu were relatively quick. Fortunately, his injuries were minor, and he could be discharged after three days of observation in the hospital.

Even so, Lin Langyi still arranged everything for him. Time had caused some misunderstandings in her understanding of him, but Bian Shu was much more "unyielding" than he was in college. Back then, he wouldn't give in to anything she didn't like, no matter how much she threatened or bribed him. But now, when she handed him a sandwich she had just bought, he would obediently take it and eat it.

The filling was cocoa chocolate. She knew he didn't like this flavor before, but now she had simply forgotten. He, on the other hand, was like a drowning person trapped in the beautiful past, unwilling to save himself, indulging in his continuous sinking and shutting down his five senses.

"You're married?" Bian Shu's gaze fell on the ring on her ring finger.

"No." Lin Langyi sat by the hospital bed, poured him a glass of water and handed it to him. "He's engaged, and they'll get married next year."

His expression went blank for a moment, then his voice suddenly lowered: "With Yuan Chuyu?"

"Hmm? You're abroad, yet you seem to know quite a bit about things here."

"He posted many photos of you two together on his WeChat Moments, and the background image was also a photo of you in your wedding dress."

Lin Langyi was surprised: "When did you get his WeChat? No, wait, how did you two get in touch? Weren't you already abroad when I met him?"

Bian Shu suddenly looked at her intently, his expression complex and difficult to discern. His brows were furrowed, and the cup in his hand trembled slightly from the force of his grip, creating ripples on the surface.

His emotional fluctuations were so obvious that Lin Langyi was beginning to have doubts when Bian Shu suddenly grabbed her sleeve and said:

"He's been eyeing you for a long time, starting when we were still dating."

"Zhuzhu, you shouldn't marry him."

Before the words were finished, the door to the ward was pushed open, and the air flowing through the window suddenly became active, bringing a cool night breeze.

Without turning around, Lin Langyi saw Yuan Chuyu standing tall and elegant at the door in the reflection of the window.

She froze for a second, feeling inexplicably guilty and short of breath. Firstly, her first love had just returned and seemed to be holding her hand, looking at her with teary eyes, saying something about not marrying her current boyfriend. Secondly, she had a past; she had been caught cheating on her lover and had only recently reformed herself. Now, she was discussing such a dangerous topic as "not marrying him" behind Yuan Chuyu's back.

Bian Shu didn't let go of her. His breathing was heavy. When he suddenly pulled her closer, some of the water in the cup spilled out and splashed onto the quilt, quickly seeping in... but he didn't care.

Without a sound, he only looked at the man at the door with sharp eyes. The frozen atmosphere of confrontation stretched the tension of the confrontation infinitely, as if a storm was surging in the air.

Lin Langyi pulled her arm back to create distance between herself and Bian Shu, then turned her head and quickly said, "You go wait for me in the car first, I'll talk for another ten minutes or so."

After a long while, Yuan Chuyu's pupils moved slightly, locking onto her figure again.

Lin Langyi suddenly realized from this inconspicuous detail that Yuan Chuyu must have known Bian Shu for a long time and cared about him for some reason.

Because Yuan Chuyu always liked to stare at her. No matter the occasion, no matter who she was chatting with, no matter how inconvenient it was, he would always find a chance to glance at her, as if he was afraid that she would turn into a butterfly and fly away in the blink of an eye.

When she was talking to him, Yuan Chuyu could focus all his energy on the other person, and even when she spoke to him, he couldn't immediately come back to his senses... Bian Shu was right, Yuan Chuyu seemed to care a lot about her being alone with Bian Shu.

Although Yuan Chuyu looked at her, he didn't move. Lin Langyi tapped the railing next to the hospital bed with her fingers as a reminder. The hollow metal tube made a crisp echo, and he finally reacted.

"I'm going to M City early tomorrow morning. If we want to catch up, we can do it again when I get back."

He took a few steps back and walked out of the ward, gently closing the door with a flick of his finger.

In the instant his view was blocked, he glanced deeply at Bian Shu's side again.

...

Lin Langyi came out later than expected, so she sent a message to Yuan Chuyu, who then waited for her at the entrance.

She replied to other people's messages on her phone, looked up to find her car, then looked down again, typing as she walked. Finally, she reached the car and reached out to open the back door.

With a "click".

That's the sound of the central locking system locking all the doors.

The car door couldn't be opened. Lin Langyi was stunned for a moment, then looked up at the driver's seat. Through the car window, Yuan Chuyu's figure was not clearly visible inside the car.

Two or three seconds later, his face swayed, he unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned over, and reached out to unlock the passenger door.

The meaning couldn't be clearer.

Lin Langyi walked around to the passenger side and got into the car.

As soon as the seatbelt was fastened, the vehicle started quickly and glided onto the main road after leaving the hospital gate. After a distance of about twenty meters, the car doors locked again.

Lin Langyi was still sending messages to Bian Shu with her head down when the car suddenly braked at the first traffic light and then quickly made a U-turn.

We drove incredibly fast the whole way, and several times we sped past traffic lights just a few seconds before they came off.

Lin Langyi was completely unaware, focusing all her attention on the conversation. It wasn't until the car stopped again and didn't start again for a long time that she took a moment to look up in confusion.

The streetlights were dim and yellowish, and were mostly blocked by the huge camphor tree that grew wildly. The tree seemed to have been illegally cut down. One half of it stood straight up to the sky, while the other half only had a neat circular cut. The exposed half, which had been exposed to the rain, had turned black, like a deformed face that was half human and half ghost.

It's long outside the city center and beyond the ring road. This is one of the few deserted roads, and most of the old residential areas that are still there have been demolished.

"How did you end up here—?"

With another "click," the seatbelt suddenly retracted, and Yuan Chuyu leaned over and kissed her forcefully.

He bent down and pressed her down on the seat, his shoulder pressing against her, locking her completely in place on the soft, springy leather seat, unable to move. The seatbelt in front of him was still binding her body, squeezing out the remaining air in her chest and lungs. He pried open her lips and probed inside, sucking on her tongue to draw out her fluids.

Lin Langyi's tailbone went weak from her kisses. She heard a hazy, sticky sound of water and his intermittent swallowing. In the increasingly thin air, she even hallucinated another kind of decadent sound of water. The sensation came over her very quickly.

He always unconsciously closes his eyes when kissing, but this time he quickly opened them, his long, thick eyelashes concealing the dark emotions in his eyes, as if he were observing her reaction.

He asked in a low voice, "Can I lick it?"

It was as if a fleeting thought had been exposed in public. Lin Langyi's head throbbed with tension. Her restless hands, caught between the two of them, fumbled around for a few moments before finally unbuckling her seatbelt. She finally caught her breath and looked up, her view narrowed as his broad, straight shoulders blocked her view.

Soon, his hand, which had been on her thigh, moved across her and pulled the seat back down, completely blocking her view.

The space was still not big enough, so Yuan Chuyu's long, straight legs had to be twisted and repressed as he half-knelt in front of the seat. Lin Langyi pulled his legs up, and he used the moonlight to carefully examine her for a few moments, then coldly fiddled with the eternally hard ring on his ring finger, and then quickly kissed her as if he could not bear it.

His emotions were clearly off. He had been so fierce when they kissed just now, as if he was asking her for confirmation of his love. But now, his swallowing and rubbing were gradually becoming gentler, as if he was trying to please her in a tender and considerate way. He knew every little thing about her, and it would be a piece of cake for him to soothe and appease her. Lin Langyi heard his muffled groans of impatience, and the whole space was filled with anxious sighs, but he didn't care about himself and was determined to make her feel comfortable.

He was very uneasy.

These four words popped into Lin Langyi's mind.

He kissed the back of her hand and the ring with his wet lips, calming himself in this chaotic and disordered place with this disordered sacrifice, as long as she did not resist the kiss, as long as she could still feel comfortable because of him.

Lin Lang thought to himself, while recounting that Yuan Chuyu was a very good person at disguising himself. However, this statement was still open to debate. He looked completely flustered, and unease seemed to seep out from his very bones, slowly enveloping him.

So, the remaining statement was probably correct. As he recounted, Yuan Chuyu had meticulously orchestrated many schemes to cause the two to break up. He had a guilty conscience, which was why he cared so much.

*

Cheng Yanjin disliked Bian Shu.

Especially after Lin Langyi went to W City and disappeared without a trace, he was already suffering a double blow to his mind and body, and then Bian Shu, who clearly had ulterior motives towards Lin Langyi, came to visit him.

Cheng Yanjin said fiercely, "Let me tell you this first, there's no place for you here. You'd better give up on that idea now."

Bian Shu sat beside Cheng Yanjin's hospital bed, with enough space between them to fit two more chairs.

With his stern face, he asked, "And by what right do you speak to me like this?"

Cheng Yanjin was so proud of being the third in line that he wished he could put a banner that read "Lin Langyi's Third" on his bedside.

He looked at people with his chin raised and said, "We are of one mind."

A hint of sarcasm appeared on Bian Shu's usually expressionless face.

He didn't discourage Cheng Yanjin's romantic mindset, but simply said three words: "You too?"

The hand receiving the IV drip was rhythmically tapping, but upon hearing this, Cheng Yanjin immediately stopped and asked warily, "What do you mean? Are you a third party too?"

"I am not."

"Stop your nonsense. I've never heard Lin Langyi mention anything about you. Make yourself clear, am I the third party or are you the third party?"

"Yuan Chuyu is number three, and you are number four."

That resounding sentence left Cheng Yanjin staring blankly for a long time.

"Zhuzhu was my first love. We dated for three years in college." Bian Shu's tone was flat, but he suddenly became emotional in the next sentence.

“But Yuan Chuyu knew he was a third party and acted like one. Thanks to him, Zhuzhu and I broke up. She didn’t know about this and thought that Yuan Chuyu first met her at the company. I only told her a few days ago.”

"You, Yuan Chuyu!" Cheng Yanjin was shocked. He wondered if Yuan Chuyu felt ashamed when he tried to stop his love affair.

Both are three, so who's more noble than the other?!

Cheng Yanjin licked his lips, feeling the blood rushing through his veins: "Then tell me the reason for this?"

Bian Shu paused for a moment: "Zhuzhu doesn't go back to what she didn't want. I missed out on all these years with her, and that's it... But I just don't want Yuan Chuyu to have an easy time."

"Okay, I understand, ex-husband." Cheng Yanjin realized, isn't this the principle that the enemy of my enemy is my friend?

He couldn't wait to send a message to Lin Langyi, reminding her once again of Yuan Chuyu's scheming and heartless act of breaking her up with her first love.

Contrary to expectations, Lin Langyi replied coldly:

This is none of your business.

Cheng Yanjin immediately broke down and frantically typed messages to Lin Langyi. Meanwhile, Bian Shu closed the door and left without a word, ending the brief visit.

...

To be fair, Lin Langyi's attitude towards Cheng Yanjin softened significantly after he was injured. Although she was in another city, she kept in touch with him to ask if his wound was still hurting.

But after he finished talking about Yuan Chuyu, her expression changed.

Even though she had experienced emotional abuse more than once before, Cheng Yanjin still couldn't stand it. Even when he was sick, he was restless and would cling to her like a puppy that hadn't been weaned.

The abdominal wound did not stop his seduction plan. Various photos and GIFs flooded her WeChat, ranging from holding the hem of a T-shirt with his teeth to hooking his thumb around his waistband to expose his eight-pack abs to the limit.

Lin Langyi remained indifferent, but when the photos looked good, she seemed to be a little more patient than at other times.

But this fleeting intimacy that slipped through their fingers was not enough for Cheng Yanjin.

He had never been able to keep his composure in front of her, and flew to W City as soon as the stitches were removed.

All I got in return was a firm warning from her: "Do you want to be blocked again?"

Cheng Yanjin saw Yuan Chuyu staying by her side from a distance, and she was so angry she wanted to grind her teeth to powder.

She was clearly biased towards Yuan Chuyu! Even after knowing that he had planned and tricked her into marriage, she still refused to expose their affair to the public, all to protect Yuan Chuyu's feelings!

Cheng Yanjin flew all the way to W City, but he didn't have a chance to meet Lin Langyi until she returned to A City, becoming an outsider who could only watch from afar.

Because of her impatient "block me," he was both angry and timid, and he really stopped his daily nonsense after that.

But Lin Langyi contacted him.

Without any further words, she sent the hotel location directly.

Cheng Yanjin did not reply immediately; he waited four minutes and fifteen seconds—a full four minutes and fifteen seconds!

Am I some kind of slut that you only think of me at times like this?

Lin Langyi did not reply.

She went to the hotel alone first. She had been so tired from being bothered for several nights in a row that she was severely sleep-deprived. While Cheng Yanjin was not replying to her messages, Lin Langyi went to sleep first.

When she suddenly learned that Yuan Chuyu had broken her up with Bian Shu, she felt less anger and more shock at his calculated and lurking actions, as well as a growing sense of crisis about the increasingly uncontrollable nature of their intimate relationship.

Compared to Yuan Chuyu, Cheng Yanjin was completely exposed.

She felt that Yuan Chuyu was a challenging problem, and the desire to conquer him became a spiritual reward. Cheng Yanjin, on the other hand, was like milk and snacks placed beside her while she was writing the questions. She knew that the important thing was to concentrate on finishing today's test paper, but as long as that plate of fragrant snacks was placed beside her, she would find it difficult to concentrate until she finished eating everything on the plate.

During this period, Yuan Chuyu had been closely following her. Whether she was going to or from get off work or going out to relax with friends, he could always find out her whereabouts immediately.

Her rebellious spirit was fully aroused. She had tried to communicate with him politely the day before and received his earnest assurances, but the next day it was the same, and all her efforts were in vain.

As long as Bian Shu was in China, Yuan Chuyu's nerves were never relaxed.

If her relationship with Cheng Yanjin was a thorn in Yuan Chuyu's side, then Bian Shu's appearance undoubtedly exacerbated Yuan Chuyu's insecurity, and his demands for intimacy from her grew higher and higher every day.

Lin Langyi has a high tolerance for him, unless he crosses the line.

After agonizingly torturing himself for over half an hour, Cheng Yanjin couldn't take it anymore and continued sending messages into the empty chat box:

Where are they? Why aren't they saying anything?

[Are you giving me the silent treatment again? I knew you didn't really like me that much; you just like my pecs, so you're going to take a couple more pictures of us with different body types for you to collect, huh?]

Do you really think I'm that easy to fool? I don't even deserve a single visit from you when I'm injured. If I stand next to Yuan Chuyu, do I have to hang myself or jump off a building just to get you to hesitate even for a second?

Heh, I really will never let you summon me and dismiss me at will again.

Whether it was a slip of the hand or not, after angrily posting those words, he also posted two fresh photos of his abs, with the scars on his body photoshopped out, making them look tempting and delicious.

[It's past the allotted time, I can't recall it anymore. This crappy phone is so annoying.]

But Lin Langyi was fast asleep.

After another half hour, Cheng Yanjin gradually couldn't hold back anymore and started to get emotional.

I just felt like I looked a little cheap, nothing more.

I'm still a little sad. We've never met anywhere except in bed. I also wanted to go on a date with you, like to the amusement park...

[Why aren't you replying to me yet? I'm coming, on my way. I spent some time at the pharmacy to put a concealer on the scar, just in case you thought it looked bad. After I put it on, it looks exactly like a photoshopped picture.]

Actually, scars are all temporary. I've contacted several doctors these past few days. If you take good care of them early on, there shouldn't be any problems. You can also try laser treatment or tattooing later.

I even added several cosmetic surgery clinic consultants on my phone and spent a long time learning about post-C-section scar care...

Why are you still ignoring me? Lin Langyi, you're so mean!

[Sorry, was my tone too harsh just now? I am, I am your scumbag, please pay attention to me, Yibao.]

Lin Langyi didn't leave the door open for him, and Cheng Yanjin waited outside for more than forty minutes before she woke up.

She had just woken up, her head still spinning. She turned on her phone, and the words on it were floating around. She looked up at them backwards and saw his last message first:

How about strawberry flavor?

Her first thought was of the sweet and sour strawberries she shared with Yuan Chuyu; her mind was not clear.

Pearl: [What kind of strawberries? Strawberries are sour, they don't taste good.]

While avoiding certain foods to treat scars...: [During treatment, it wasn't mentioned that I ate strawberries.]

[Open the door.]

Cheng Yanjin was still reckless and inexperienced, but this was not his fault. Lin Langyi had left him after having a meal, and Cheng Yanjin had been celibate for so long, so of course he couldn't control himself.

Yuan Chuyu's call came as expected. Lin Langyi's gaze had barely shifted when Cheng Yanjin snatched the phone away and stuffed it under her pillow without hesitation.

"Give it to me." He pulled her outstretched hand back.

Still not satisfied, he bit her finger with the ring on it, then grabbed both of her hands with one hand, lifted them above her head, and pressed them onto the pillow.

Through the pillow, she felt a dull, heavy vibration on the back of her hand, and she repeated it again.

Cheng Yanjin refused.

"Isn't it noisy?" she stared at him. "I was just planning to turn it off."

He paused for a moment, then loosened his grip on her wrist slightly.

"Don't lie to me." His voice was hoarse, with a hint of grievance and an unconscious touch of coquetry.

Lin Langyi looked at him, a little sweat still clinging to her eyelashes, and said, "Or do you want to take it?"

Cheng Yanjin felt a sudden surge of emotion; he felt as if, after all the twists and turns of their relationship, she was finally standing by his side.

"Really?" Cheng Yanjin asked for confirmation. "Can I answer the phone?"

"Hmm." Lin Langyi pulled the phone out from under the pillow and tossed it to him.

Cheng Yanjin caught the phone in mid-air, and after the call dropped, he called back, refusing to let it go.

Cheng Yanjin looked down at her, then looked at her again: "Are you in a bad mood today?"

"catch."

He suddenly felt nervous. Lin Langyi sat up and leaned against the headboard, and he moved closer. Skin-to-skin contact gave him great courage.

The call was connected, and it was played on speakerphone.

Yuan Chuyu's voice was cold and clear, subtly different from a human voice heard directly through a communication device, like jade immersed in ice and snow, devoid of any human warmth.

He got straight to the point: "Where are you?"

Cheng Yanjin glanced at Lin Langyi, but he didn't dare to show off his power before she gave any instructions.

"Why are you looking at me?" Lin Langyi's words were clearly audible to both of them. "So tired that you don't even have the strength to speak? You sent your location without knowing the room number."

Yuan Chuyu suddenly fell silent. His breathing was shallow and weak, as if he had been stabbed and was in a near-death state with dilated pupils.

His composure crumbled into dust, and he began to explain, his voice trembling, "Zhuzhu, it was wrong of me to go to Bian Shu yesterday, but his injury was really just an accident. He's going back now, so nothing like this will happen again..."

"I've just left the company. I'll come pick you up. I'll make you crab roe pastries tonight, okay?"

Cheng Yanjin finally got the answer to Lin Langyi's unusual reaction today.

Bian Shu and Yuan Chuyu were fighting each other, and although he seemed to be ignored by both sides, Lin Langyi only thought he was a diversion when he was in a bad mood. But as the saying goes, when the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman benefits.

LOL, whose bed is she in right now? Huh?!

While Yuan Chuyu was still elaborating on the phone, Cheng Yanjin had already sorted out the whole story. After becoming the mistress, this man strictly guarded against and blocked any other people's path to him, and he didn't intend to give his first love a chance to come back to life.

How could Cheng Yanjin possibly allow his love rival to take someone away from his bed? That would be an utter disgrace!

He said nonchalantly, "Stop pretending, everyone started out as a mistress, right?"

These words indeed reminded Lin Langyi. She rolled up the blanket and closed her eyes again: "You go back. I'm not going back tonight."

Yuan Chuyu's voice was as soft as a breeze: "Then shall I bring you a change of clothes? And skin care products, you didn't bring anything."

Lin Langyi buried half her face in the blanket and remained silent.

She didn't say she was going to hang up. Cheng Yanjin sat cross-legged to the side, waiting, looking at her expectantly like a big dog that had been forced to have its bowl and all of its dog food taken away halfway through its meal.

Yuan Chuyu sounded very calm on the phone, or perhaps he had actually gone completely mad in secret and even went to find Bian Shu.

The person in charge of Yingyuan is a ruthless person who cannot tolerate any wrongdoing.

But it's alright, Cheng Yanjin is happy to be sand, he has a lot of experience with sand.

“If you can’t accept that, then let’s calm down for a while,” Lin Langyi said. “Otherwise, the death of Bian Shu and Cheng Yanjin won’t be enough to tempt you.”

The sharp screech of brakes seemed to conjure a dark drag mark on the road.

Lin Langyi's eyelids twitched slightly.

"Zhuzhu".

Yuan Chuyu suddenly called out to her, his voice choked and broken, his heavy breathing dragged down by a dense layer of sorrow. He whispered, "We're getting married soon."

Cheng Yanjin could no longer hear Lin Langyi's breathing.

She hid her face under the covers, her eyes tightly closed, her brows slightly furrowed.

"Hang up the phone, I want to sleep. When he comes, could you help me get my things?"

"Hmm." Cheng Yanjin hung up the phone, stretched out a finger and pressed it against her brow, trying to rub away her unhappiness.

She really fell asleep.

The room was quiet. He then gently pulled down the blanket that was covering her nose to make sure she could breathe properly.

After a long while, Cheng Yanjin smiled and said in a low voice, "You're really lucky. When you argue with your husband, your boyfriend comforts you. When your boyfriend upsets you, you run home."

Of course, no one responded to him. He sighed softly, snuggled into the covers, wrapped his arms around her, and quietly closed his eyes.
