Chapter 25
This night market trip has come to a perfect end, and Lin Langyi was in a wonderful mood on the way back.
Glancing at the passenger seat, I saw that Yuan Chuyu had a pair of well-packaged glass ornaments on his lap, with one hand gently supporting them to prevent him from falling if he slammed on the brakes. He was clearly very satisfied with her taste.
But it's clear that fate isn't going to let it end there.
Lin Langyi's phone suddenly started popping up a series of alerts. She was driving and didn't have time to open them, so she could only glance at them half-heartedly, but finally managed to extract the keywords.
"An outsider broke into the garage?" She was slightly taken aback. "I don't use that C7 area much anymore; it's mostly used for older cars."
When Yuan Chuyu heard C7, he glanced at her and reminded her, "Was the car you drove when you patrolled the river today parked there?"
Lin Langyi slowly recalled: "Oh, yes..."
He raised an eyebrow slightly, then suddenly chuckled briefly and silently before quickly typing a few words on his phone and sending them.
Lin Langyi was suddenly alerted by his reminder, and an answer immediately came to her mind. She urged him, "Help me open it and see who came in."
Yuan Chuyu took her phone from the car mount, opened the monitoring app, glanced at it, and then held the phone up in front of her.
The newcomer dared not turn on the lights and entered the garage in the dark. However, under the infrared surveillance, the pregnant belly of the woman was particularly obvious, and Lin Langyi recognized the Zu Dongyun brothers at a glance.
There were several large buckets of water and a dozen or so bottles that looked like small fire extinguishers next to them.
Having apparently scouted the area beforehand, the two approached the first car in the dark. One of them grabbed a small fire extinguisher, shook it vigorously up and down a dozen times, and then sprayed it indiscriminately onto the car body.
It's a spray paint bottle.
The other person went around to the other side, took a ladle, scooped up liquid from the bucket, and haphazardly splashed it onto the car door.
This is revenge for pouring milk tea into the car during the day.
Lin Langyi's drive was less than ten minutes. Without much thought, she turned off the automatic 110 alarm setting of the monitoring system and then made a phone call to Lin Xiangshuo, asking him to go to C7 to check it out.
During her call with Lin Xiangshuo, Yuan Chuyu seemed to try to interrupt her several times, but Lin Langyi had already planned for this day. Her words were fluent and natural. After hearing what his sister said, Lin Xiangshuo was furious. With both old and new grudges combined, he immediately said that he would go right away.
After hanging up the phone, the surveillance footage still showed the two brothers splashing water to their hearts' content. The C7 connected to other parking spaces, and Zu Dongyun and his companion went from car to car like a shower of flowers, spreading their love evenly and spreading it far and wide.
Lin Langyi sneered inwardly. They wouldn't think the surveillance camera was broken if it didn't emit a red light at night, would they?
With a tap of the accelerator, the journey should have been over in the blink of an eye, but after Lin Langyi finished her call with Lin Xiangshuo, she wasn't in a hurry. She only glanced at the monitor on her phone intermittently, and the car moved forward at a snail's pace.
How could Yuan Chuyu not have sensed something was wrong?
He hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Your brother is going to stop him alone... Can he manage?"
Lin Langyi said decisively, "Of course he can't."
Yuan Chuyu: ...
"It would be a miracle if he were good at it. My brother has never been good at sports since he was a child. Look at how skinny he looks. He was bad at swimming in the physical education entrance exam, and he had to retake the long-distance running twice. He didn't get a perfect score in the end, and he even cried when he got home. My dad said that his limbs were just there to make up the numbers."
Lin Langyi changed the subject, her spirits immediately lifting, her eyes burning as she said, "But my brother is easily provoked. Whether he can win or not is another matter, but logically speaking, he can't afford to lose a single word. Besides, I know that the Zu brothers, one is quite heavy and the other used to fight in the boxing ring when he was young. Taking down my brother shouldn't be a problem for them."
Yuan Chuyu paused for two seconds: "You and your brother..."
Lin Langyi said bitterly, "Every time Cheng Yanjin acts like a jerk to me, I can't help but want to drag my brother out and beat him up too. Neither of them will get away with it! I made the conditions for the money needed for Ying Shan Lake, and he should also put in some effort for the land of Ying Shan Lake. That's what it means for siblings to work together and achieve great things!"
Yuan Chuyu then realized that Lin Langyi was planning to have two goals at once. He paused, thinking that his suggestion had led her astray, and said slowly, "So, when you said you understood on the boat today, you meant to send your brother to get beaten up so that you could negotiate medical compensation?"
"Yes, I will sue if it constitutes minor injury. The sentencing and economic compensation are also related to mediation."
The surveillance footage showed that the Zu brothers had already reached the blind spot of the first two cameras. Lin Langyi was at a red light, tapping her phone screen to switch between the perspectives of the third and fourth cameras. Hearing this, she glanced at Yuan Chuyu and asked in surprise, "Isn't that what you meant?"
He interlaced his fingers on his lap and tapped them lightly twice, as if carefully choosing his words: "Actually, what I meant was..."
In the surveillance footage, the garage lights were finally turned on with a "snap," and Lin Xiangshuo stormed in, carrying a baseball bat. As soon as he entered, he pointed at the two brothers and yelled.
The two were caught off guard and startled. Seeing that Lin Xiangshuo was alone, they immediately regained their courage, rolled up their sleeves, and arrogantly pressed forward.
The insults exchanged between them were probably quite offensive. Lin Xiangshuo pointed at his own head several times, implying that Lin Xiangshuo had nothing to lose. Zu Changfu couldn't take the provocation. With a howl, he grabbed a spray paint bottle and charged forward, smashing Lin Xiangshuo's baseball bat, which he had missed, right in the face.
Even without his weapon, Lin Xiangshuo was not intimidated at all. Instead, his courage surged and he pressed on. This pale and thin man kept cursing until the veins on his neck were bulging. Unfortunately, he was the most stubborn. In less than two minutes, he was taken down by Zu Dongyun with a takedown. Zu Changfu sat on his stomach and started punching him in the face.
Lin Langyi was almost there, still engrossed in the intense live battle, when she finally managed to pull her attention back and casually asked, "Hmm? What do you mean?"
It was rare to see Yuan Chuyu so hesitant and lingering. He slowly explained, "If someone intentionally damages another person's property and the amount involved is substantial, you can also call the police and file a case."
Lin Langyi scrolled through the surveillance footage from beginning to end, muttering, "Oh dear, oh dear, not enough, these are all old cars, some are almost scrapped, none of them have large sums involved—"
She suddenly slammed on the brakes as if she'd seen a ghost, her words abruptly cut off, staring in shock at a long-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom that had suddenly appeared in the video.
Even the cold white light shining down from the garage ceiling couldn't conceal its fluid black mirror-like finish, making it stand out solemnly in the corner of the garage filled with old cars.
Of course, if its flying goddess logo wasn't painted with cheap, low-quality bright red paint.
"This car, this car, this car..." Lin Langyi's pupils dilated in shock, and she began to stammer, "No, I didn't see this car during the day? Whose car is this? Am I hallucinating?"
Yuan Chuyu carefully observed her complexion and saw that she was almost sweating. He took out two tissues and handed them to her, still speaking calmly and slowly: "It's my car. You had a dispute with Zu Dongyun this afternoon, so I had someone drive it over and park it next to you."
Lin Langyi suddenly turned her head, her expression almost collapsing: "Your car?! This is a collector's edition, it cost over ten million!"
He nodded slightly, as if he had no interest in it, and explained casually, "Deliberate damage is not covered by insurance. This price is enough to make them sit down and have a proper talk with you."
He paused, seemingly troubled, and said, "I just didn't know you already had a plan, that you were having your brother handle it..."
Lin Langyi stared with dead fish eyes: "So you're sending a limited edition Phantom? Yuan Chuyu, do you even know how to write the words 'wasteful'?"
The two people stared at each other in the car for a long time, speechless.
"We've secured the land at Yingshan Lake," Lin Langyi concluded, then accelerated again, abandoning his previous dawdling manner. This time, he pressed the accelerator hard, not worried that Lin Xiangshuo wouldn't be able to keep up, but mainly afraid that if he delayed by two more minutes, the Rolls-Royce wouldn't be able to keep up.
When I got out of the car at the garage, the clattering and clanging sounds inside hadn't stopped yet.
Lin Langyi slammed the door shut and was about to rush inside when Yuan Chuyu quickly stopped her, saying calmly in a deep voice, "Don't rush."
He took a long, thin pair of stainless steel fire tongs from a bucket outside the garage door, holding the cold, dripping piece in one hand, and pulled his phone out of his pocket with the other, typing a few words. The cold light from the phone reflected on his face, which remained as expressionless as ever.
He sent the message, locked the screen, put the phone back in his pocket, and walked steadily into the garage first.
A trail of water droplets remained on the ground. The garage door was ajar. He slightly raised his wrist, used the fire tongs to push the door open, and it slammed against the wall with a thud.
The three people inside, locked in a life-or-death struggle, simultaneously raised their bruised and swollen faces and looked towards the door.
Yuan Chuyu stood coldly at the gate, looking down at the three people fighting on the ground.
A draft blew through his neatly pressed shirt, making it appear subtly menacing. He had one hand still in his pocket, and one end of the fire tongs lightly touched the concrete floor while the other end, with its round handle, slipped into his palm, just barely wedged against the protruding knuckles on the back of his hand, radiating a chilling aura under the lamplight.
"I've already called the police." Lin Langyi stood beside him, holding up her phone which was still connected to another call. "Security is on their way soon. Why don't you guys estimate how much money you'll have to spend today?"
Zu Dongyun immediately got up from the ground. His cunning triangular eyes quickly darted over Yuan Chuyu, then glanced at the doorway. He raised his hands and said, "It's just a few cars that are about to be scrapped. What's the difference between that and a cup of milk tea spilled in the ventilation duct? It's all bark and no bite. Miss Lin always likes to make a mountain out of a molehill."
Lin Langyi asked Lin Xiangshuo, who was lying on the ground, "Brother, are you alright? This is intentional assault. Are you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, and bleeding?"
Lin Xiangshuo covered his forehead, where a dark bluish-black swelling was indeed oozing traces of blood. His lips were cut, and blood from his nose covered half of his face, but his voice was still loud: "Xiaoyi, I think I'm about to die."
"We've called an ambulance." Lin Langyi tried to go inside and help Lin Xiangshuo up.
He took only one step before Yuan Chuyu stepped to the side and blocked his path with his body.
He remained expressionless, looking at Zu Changfu who was still suppressing Lin Xiangshuo, and said succinctly: "Get up."
Zu Dongyun immediately gave his younger brother a look, and Zu Changfu picked up Lin Xiangshuo, who had collapsed to the ground, and walked toward the door with a smile on his face: "It's nothing, it just looked scary, and the idea of intentional injury is so scary, and he also hit him, so it's considered mutual fighting."
"I didn't!" Lin Xiangshuo argued firmly. "I didn't hit you at all. There are security cameras here. Don't try to make up stories!"
Upon hearing the word "surveillance," Zu Dongyun's expression changed instantly. He followed his obese younger brother and slowly approached the door. When the four of them were close, he suddenly shoved Zu Changfu.
Zu Changfu reacted quickly, immediately pushing Lin Xiangshuo toward Lin Langyi and running to the side.
Who knew that Lin Langyi would not play by the rules at all, showing no intention of catching her brother who was unsteady on his feet. Seeing that he was about to run away, she went all out and pushed Lin Xiangshuo back.
Lin Xiangshuo was already dizzy and looked like he was not getting enough blood to his brain. When his sister pushed him so firmly and accurately, he lost his balance and fell straight backward, crashing into Zu Changfu who was rushing over.
Both of them cried out "Ouch!" at the same time. Zu Changfu was knocked to the ground on his buttocks, but fortunately, he was chubby and soft. Lin Xiangshuo was even more unharmed, as if he had fallen onto a soft cushion. He just kept hissing and holding his head.
On the other side, Zu Dongyun had no time to care about his good younger brother. As Zu Changfu made his escape, he swept his leg over, thinking that Yuan Chuyu's whole demeanor showed that he was from a wealthy family who never lifted a finger, undoubtedly the second Lin Xiangshuo, easy to deal with.
However, at the moment of the kick, Yuan Chuyu's upper body remained still. He rolled his left foot two inches to the side, twisted his body to face the side, and quickly raised his right leg, kicking and hooking the newcomer's knee, cleanly and neatly knocking Zu Dongyun to the ground.
Zu Dongyun was forced to press down on his leg. After all, he hadn't boxed for many years and was relying on his past skills. Suddenly being forced into a mid-air split left his entire leg numb.
He gritted his teeth and rolled to the side, grabbing a spray paint bottle from behind and throwing it at Lin Langyi with all his might. Before it even reached him, a pair of fire tongs swung it diagonally from the air, sending it flying straight toward the wall like a golf ball, making a loud bang.
"You still dare to lay a hand on me?" Lin Langyi was furious, pointing at the Rolls-Royce in the back, "Open your eyes and take a good look, which car did you throw paint on!"
“What good car could there be—” Zu Changfu followed her finger and looked down, but he abruptly cut off his sentence before he could finish. His eyes almost popped out of their sockets, and he suddenly fell silent.
"Brother, brother, brother..." He couldn't care about anything else and pointed inside, trembling, "Illusion, it's an illusion."
“Huan Ni—” Zu Dongyun glanced at the other side irritably, and that glance felt like falling into an ice cellar, freezing him to the bone.
Before the sirens blared, Lin Langyi said everything he needed to say: "I told you, there are surveillance cameras everywhere. You should think it over carefully."
*
Meng Hui hurriedly accompanied Lin Xiangshuo to the hospital. Zu Dongyun and his brother were arrested for the second time. Lin Langyi and Yuan Chuyu should have gone with them as well. However, Yuan Chuyu's lawyer, who lived near Yingshan Lake, arrived with the police almost simultaneously after the incident, so the questioning and statement taking went smoothly.
It was nearly 10:30 when the two returned to Ying Shan Lake. Lin Langyi was still agonizing over her car: "Your car..."
"fine."
Yuan Chuyu walked alongside her towards the company. Seeing the worry still lingering on her face, and even her braid drooping listlessly, he felt a slight pang in his heart. Before he could react, he tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ear.
"They will compensate us. Besides, a car is just a car. If Ying Shanhu has no worries about the future, and if they restructure and upgrade their operations, Ying Yuan, as a partner, will also benefit. The compensation will be far more than just the repair cost of a single car."
His fingers were still holding her hair as he whispered, "Hair has fallen out."
Lin Langyi's mind was entirely focused on what was happening tonight. Upon hearing this, she looked up to touch him, but instead touched his fingers.
Yuan Chuyu remained motionless, showing no intention of withdrawing his hand. He slowly stopped walking, his dark pupils fixed on her without blinking.
Lin Langyi felt as if she were being sucked into his unfathomable pupils.
"Hey! Lin Langyi!"
A familiar voice suddenly rang out, and Lin Langyi turned around abruptly. A figure flashed before her eyes, and Cheng Yanjin had unexpectedly appeared here.
He rushed up and grabbed her shoulders with both hands, checking her over from head to toe, his brows furrowed deeply: "I heard you got into a fight, are you hurt?"
Yuan Chuyu's arm stiffened slightly, and he silently withdrew his hand, standing quietly to the side as an insignificant bystander.
"You're quick with your news. It wasn't me, it was my brother," Lin Langyi said in a few words. "They didn't win the fight, but they won in the end."
Upon hearing the words "didn't win," Cheng Yanjin became even more anxious and immediately said he would go and take a look: "Take me there, and I'll get revenge for you. This kind of person is like a dog guarding its food. We have to beat them up, and we have to beat them into submission in one go. Otherwise, they won't be able to tell who's the boss in the future, and they'll always find a way to take a bite back."
He was furious and raised his fist, which was as big as a sandbag, and waved it: "Or you don't have to show yourself. Just point out to me from a distance which two people are you, and I'll put a sack over their heads, stuff them in an alley, and teach them a lesson. I guarantee they won't know your relationship with me, so they won't come looking for trouble with you when I become a monk."
"No need, no need..." Lin Langyi pulled him back. "This time it's really solved. There won't be any more trouble. Oh, I have to thank Yuan Chuyu. Thank you for your generosity, boss."
Cheng Yanjin had been focused on Lin Langyi the whole time, and only then did he turn around and notice Yuan Chuyu, who had been standing in the shadows: "Brother, you're here too? How could we not win?"
Yuan Chuyu remained silent and offered no explanation. Ever since Cheng Yanjin appeared, his gaze seemed fixed on the back of Cheng's neck, yet it also seemed unfocused, merely falling idly into the air.
Lin Langyi, ever the one who appreciated the story, recounted the incident of the Rolls-Royce with the ink splash. After hearing the whole story, Cheng Yanjin's expression gradually relaxed.
He hooked his arm around her neck, pulled her into his embrace, and declared boldly, "Thanks, bro. I'll pay for the car repairs after I'm out of solitary confinement."
Yuan Chuyu abruptly withdrew his gaze from the back of Cheng Yanjin's neck, first glancing down at the ground, and then, as if having composed himself, looked back at Cheng Yanjin: "No need."
"Hey, how could that be..." Cheng Yanjin continued to laugh and joke, but his arm was too heavy, and Lin Langyi disdainfully tossed it off his shoulder.
He wasn't annoyed; he simply approached Yuan Chuyu casually, then suddenly leaned in and, in a voice Lin Langyi couldn't hear, brought up old grievances:
"And the swimsuit from the Sands Mansion, why didn't you tell me? I'll transfer the money to you later."
A deathly silence.
Yuan Chuyu slowly lifted his eyelids, his gaze carrying an inexplicable weight in the darkness, as if he were nailing his gaze to Cheng Yanjin's face with a bone-scratching force. The close proximity allowed him to clearly and undeniably see the fresh bite marks that had scabbed over on the back of Cheng Yanjin's neck, and further down, the long fingernail scratches on his shoulder blades that the T-shirt's round neck couldn't cover.
Cheng Yanjin still tilted his head to meet his gaze.
His gaze remained assertive and confident, without any reservations or reservations. He wasn't there to show off; he had no idea about those complicated feelings, or perhaps he didn't care to know. He was simply exercising the responsibilities and rights of a fiancé as a matter of course.
Yuan Chuyu knew this perfectly well.
But at this moment, he was still wearing a bracelet on his left wrist. His wrist was tucked inward, causing the peach blossom buckle to be tightly bound by the watch strap, digging deep into his flesh. It was like a grain of sand falling into his eyelid, making him clearly aware of this grain of sand that would continue to rub against him, causing pain and tears, every time he blinked.
Yuan Chuyu suddenly raised his hand and forcefully slapped Cheng Yanjin's arm with the back of his hand, like a casual punch to the chest when he was being overly polite to his brother.
The round pearl, like the diamond on a wedding ring, pressed against Cheng Yanjin's skin. Yuan Chuyu felt the same way, irrationally and without reason.
Cheng Yanjin indeed looked down at his arm, scratched it with his fingernail, and then looked up at Yuan Chuyu's hand.
But the other party casually withdrew his hand, and as he turned his wrist, the moon-white pearl emitted a warm halo, which was especially noticeable in the darkness.
He said casually, "No need, it's just a small amount of money."
