Chapter 60

Chapter 60

Only three people remained in the room. Meng Hui remained silent for a while, holding Lin Langyi's hand tightly without letting go.

"Mom, if there's nothing else, I'll take Lin Langyi back now." Cheng Yanjin saw that Bian Shu was staring intently at Lin Langyi, and his lust grew stronger. He didn't want to stay in the ward for another second.

"Ah, okay, sure." Meng Hui's reaction was a little slow, and it was unclear what he was thinking.

"It's only the first night, can you walk like this?" Lin Langyi was still worried. She looked at Bian Shu's shoulder, where a bony peak was slightly raised. He looked thin and clean, like a silent cypress tree.

"I'm fine. It's too late. You must have been frightened today. Get some rest." Bian Shu said these polite and comforting words, but his eyes didn't leave her for a second. He stared at her even more intently because she might leave soon.

“I will arrange a caregiver for him.” Cheng Yanjin pressed his large hand hard on Lin Langyi’s shoulder, staring menacingly at the two “young lovers” gazing at each other affectionately, wishing he could rush up and gouge out Bian Shu’s eyes right now.

"Can we call him now?" Lin Langyi showed an unprecedented level of concern.

Cheng Yanjin felt like his heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys were all on fire. He gritted his teeth, his expression ferocious, and said, word by word, "Your satisfaction is guaranteed."

“The hospital has ‘blue ribbons,’ so you can hire a caregiver directly. I’ll go ask.” Meng Hui stood up. “Yan Jin, I’m leaving Zhuzhu in your care.”

"Okay! Mom! Don't worry!" Cheng Yanjin glanced frantically at Bian Shu out of the corner of his eye, his reply was so enthusiastic and forceful.

"Then I'll go buy some daily necessities." Lin Langyi also stood up and glanced at the empty bedside table. "Water cup, towel, tissues... and some food."

"I'll go with you!" Cheng Yanjin wished that Lin Langyi wouldn't spend a single thought or penny on Bian Shu. After all, as the saying goes, love is where money is, and if she spent money on Bian Shu, who knows, he might develop feelings for him later.

"So he's all alone here?" Lin Langyi disagreed. "Or I can go with you and you can go shopping?"

Cheng Yanjin said decisively, "Then you go buy it, I'll stay here."

Just kidding, I can't stand being alone with someone.

Lin Langyi went out the door.

She shopped quickly, heading straight to the corresponding shelf, buying what she needed and leaving. But when she passed the medical care section, she stopped, inexplicably recalling the cold, emotionless tone in Yuan Chuyu's voice when he spoke of that madman.

And his terrible methods of stopping the bleeding.

Lin Langyi stepped back and took a box of blue sterile dressings.

She paid and went upstairs. She picked through a bag of daily necessities, wanting to take out the plaster first, so as not to hand it to Yuan Chuyu in front of everyone and get unwanted attention.

As she passed through the half-open emergency exit corridor, an arm suddenly reached out from beside her, grabbed her wrist with remarkable precision, and yanked her inside.

Lin Langyi was focused on finding something, and when she was stumbling and dragged over, she screamed in fright, her fingers loosened, and the entire plastic bag fell to the ground.

She barely had time to utter a sound before someone covered her mouth, and a familiar scent enveloped her like a tight net.

Her throat tightened as he pinned her down in the stairwell, pinning her shoulders and legs against him, rendering her unable to move.

The tiles behind me were icy cold, and the hand I was covering my mouth wasn't warm either.

The hallway was dimly lit, with a faint glow emanating from the turquoise emergency exit sign in the corner.

Using the faint light, Lin Langyi could see the person in front of her clearly, and also the handsome face that seemed even more unapproachable when his expression was cold.

However, his sharp features were now obscured by the dim light, casting deep, shadowy lines that made him look somewhat fierce.

When she saw it was him, her wildly beating heart slowly calmed down. She reached out and grabbed his wrist, trying to pull his arm off.

I can't break it.

Yuan Chuyu didn't need to use any force at all; she realized that if he didn't want to, she couldn't move him at all.

Lin Langyi protested with two "woof woof" sounds and raised her leg to kick him. He didn't dodge and took the kick. Instead, he became even more aggressive and inserted one leg between her legs, pressing down on her more and more recklessly, completely locking her between the wall and him.

The hallway door wasn't closed, and since he had suddenly pulled her in, he hadn't paid any attention to it; the door was even more open than before.

Outside the door was a brightly lit corridor, with footsteps coming and going, sometimes near, sometimes far; inside, it was silent and still, and the motion-activated lights would not turn on unless someone made a sound.

Yuan Chuyu watched her glance at the door several times, paused for a few seconds, and then said softly, "Your heart is beating so fast."

"Your breathing is rapid..." He carefully tidied the strands of hair that were stuck to her cheeks in the mess and tucked them behind her ear. "Your breath is all over my palms, so irregular."

After finishing his haircut, he didn't remove his hand; instead, he stroked her cheek as he combed her hair.

His thumb slowly rubbed downwards, the places it passed through feeling like they were being passed through by a slight electric current, bringing a long, tingling sensation. His fingers slid to her chin, stopped, and then his knuckles pushed upwards, forcing her to tilt her face up.

He lowered his head, almost nose-to-nose with hers, his dark eyes reflecting the dark green light of the stairwell sign, like a dangerous snake.

"Am I a stand-in?" he suddenly asked.

The tone was gentle and the voice was soft, without even triggering the motion-activated light.

Lin Langyi frowned and glared at him.

He asked her questions, but never removed his hand from her mouth, as if he didn't want to hear her answer, or as if he was afraid to hear her answer.

He then asked gently, "Do you like me, or do you just like this type of person?"

"If another one comes along later, will you like him too?"

Lin Langyi made two more "woo-woo" sounds, but before she could raise her voice, the familiar sound of high heels suddenly came from outside the door.

Her eyes widened immediately, like a frightened fawn.

Every child can accurately recognize the sound of their parents' footsteps.

She was the same.

Even from a great distance, Lin Langyi could tell that it was Meng Hui's footsteps, walking towards them step by step.

She glanced at the door more and more frequently, her breathing became more rapid, and a thin layer of sweat appeared on her forehead, about to trickle down her temples.

Yuan Chuyu, however, continued to gaze at her calmly, showing no intention whatsoever of letting her go.

He pressed his lips to her forehead, gently and slowly licking away the sweat little by little, and finally kissed her eyelids.

Are you this nice to everyone?

He spoke these words so softly against her skin that she could feel the faint vibration of his vocal cords as their skin touched.

"You don't seem to treat me as well as you treat him."

It was the same calm tone he used when stating the facts in the hospital room, as if his emotions were just as undisturbed.

The footsteps grew closer, and Lin Langyi also heard Meng Hui's familiar voice, as he spoke to the person beside him: "Daily payment or together after discharge?"

Lin Langyi felt a jolt in the back of his head as he struggled to lift the arm that was pinning him down, pressing the box he was holding against Lin Langyi's abdomen.

He didn't seem to understand what she meant.

Meng Hui had probably found a caregiver and was talking to someone, her steps slowing down as she spoke.

Lin Langyi felt as if a small drum was beating in her heart. She squeezed the box of plasters until it was deformed, and she used the sharp corners to poke at him without mercy, wanting him to feel the pain and stay away.

But she underestimated the impact to Yuan Chuyu tonight.

He remained calm and composed throughout, so she assumed he wasn't that angry, or rather, not that jealous.

He released his hand from her lips, and before she could even take a breath, he firmly gripped both her wrists with one hand. In the clash, the sterile dressing slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground with a "thud."

The voice-activated light suddenly turned on, and Meng Hui passed by the door.

Lin Langyi felt her scream was just about to land on the tip of her tongue. Her vision and hearing were at their peak, and everything was as clear as if it were in slow motion.

In a chilling, almost precarious moment, he murmured softly, "You have to be the best to me, the best of all, okay?"

She held her breath and stared blankly into his eyes as he leaned down, his dark pupils reflecting her image more and more clearly.

The person in front of her kissed her tenderly.

In the brightly lit corridor, it's like algae finally seeing the sun.

She felt she was truly insane, which was why she said that to him at this moment, before Meng Hui had gone far and before the lights were turned off:

"The road connecting the two houses has an underground parking lot, so you never have to go up to the ground and never see the sun. Aren't you disappointed?"

He didn't answer, but those words changed the tone of his otherwise fleeting kiss.

More intense than usual, their lips rubbing together, his tongue slowly prying open her teeth, determinedly and gently probing inside. He didn't care if she bit him; he simply entangled his tongue with hers, silently stealing her air.

She was surrounded by a stark contrast of ice and fire. Time passed slowly. With her eyes tightly closed, she could still hear Meng Hui talking to someone. Perhaps the footsteps outside the door had stopped, because she no longer heard the crisp sound of high heels clicking on the ground.

Separated by a wall.

Just one step away.

Just a glance at the half-open door will push everything to an irreversible point.

This thought amplified her trembling, a tingling and numb sensation shooting from her weak calves all the way to the top of her head. She couldn't make out the sounds outside the door, and all her consciousness was gripped by the man in front of her.

She could even hear the intermittent moans emanating from her own throat. His shoulders were broad, and she was completely enveloped in his embrace, growing closer and closer as they struggled for air. She didn't even know when he had released his grip on her.

He let go, but she didn't struggle. Instead, she hugged him back, gripping his shirt tightly and crumpling the fabric.

The voice-activated light suddenly went dark when the time was up.

Darkness can breed more instincts.

Her instinct.

Lin Langyi felt conflicted. She would get nervous and intimidated every time, but she never seemed to reject him because of it.

Just like now, in the darkness, budding feelings accompanied by growing courage led her to kiss him passionately.

She felt lightheaded, as if she were floating in water, an uncontrollable tremor that swept through her sensitive nerves, causing her eyes to well up with tears in a state of extreme tension and excitement.

She even rubbed her lower abdomen against him.

The height difference was about a head; she had tried it before and had to stand on tiptoe, so she knew what she was doing.

Actually, this step wasn't necessary at all. A man who had just tasted the sweetness of love didn't need to resort to any tricks. His Adam's apple bobbed, he let out a muffled gasp, bit her lightly, and then actually pulled away.

Lin Langyi felt dizzy and gasped for breath.

Yuan Chuyu's lips were red, and his breathing was a little unsteady. His forehead was pressed against hers as he questioned, "Do you not like me at all, and only like my body?"

Lin Langyi's eyes were still wet. She closed them briefly and pushed him away.

She was sweating and damp all over. After a few seconds, she picked up the box of sterile dressings from the ground and threw it directly at him.

Yuan Chuyu caught the object that hit him, looked down and saw that it was a sterile dressing. He suddenly froze, his expression blank, and remained silent for a long time.

She remained silent, retied her hair in the darkness, straightened her clothes, and walked to the door to check her face and lips in the light of her phone's front-facing camera.

He bent down and picked up the items scattered on the ground one by one, putting them into a bag, and handed it to her after she finished washing and tidying up.

Lin Langyi picked up the plastic bag, opened the door, and left without looking back. The two didn't exchange a single word, as if there was no need for them to express themselves.

When Meng Hui returned to the ward, she was talking to the caregiver she had hired. She listened attentively as the door opened and she immediately looked towards Lin Langyi.

Cheng Yanjin sat casually in a chair with his back to the hospital bed, crossing his legs idly. When he saw Lin Langyi, his eyes lit up, and he immediately put his legs down to greet her.

After the two of them arranged the items, Bian Shu and Cheng Yanjin's eyes were fixed on her. They noticed that she was keeping her head down and working, and her face was a little red.

"Hot?" Cheng Yanjin asked with concern.

"Hmm." Lin Langyi had just deliberately thrown away the receipt. "I bought it outside. I ran around a bit, and it was hot."

Bian Shu looked at her lowered eyelashes, his gaze lingered on her slightly flushed face, then moved to her red lips, without saying a word.

"Let's go back." Cheng Yanjin quickly finished packing and eagerly pulled Lin Langyi away. "Hey, didn't Brother Yu leave a while ago?"

Lin Langyi's face showed unfamiliarity: "I don't know."

The two walked together down the gleaming corridor, their footsteps fading into the distance.

No one glanced inside the half-open emergency exit as they passed by.

The interior was dimly lit and eerily quiet.
