Chapter 74
Inside the quiet carriage, only the sound of lips and tongues entwining could be heard.
Yuan Chuyu barely responded to her. He didn't even close his eyes while kissing her, only wrapping one arm around her to make sure she wouldn't bump her head on the steering wheel because of his unrestrained movements.
Lin Langyi liked the lingering, light fragrance emanating from him. She kissed him for a while, then rested her chin on his shoulder, curled up, and reached down with her right hand to find the seat switch, adjusting the driver's seat backward.
The driver's seat was getting bigger and bigger. When she spoke, her teeth clicked together, like a squirrel cracking a rock with a walnut. She asked, "Are you still angry about what we said about temporarily separating the other day?"
Yuan Chuyu remained silent.
What an angry, cold beauty.
She wasn't afraid of him at all. She moved the seat to the furthest distance, then adjusted it again, and the backrest suddenly dropped down a bit, causing the two of them to fall down at the same time.
Despite his tough words, Yuan Chuyu's body was quite sensible; as she fell, he wrapped his other arm around her, completely protecting her in his embrace.
Sitting in the recliner, Lin Langyi lifted her head from the crook of his neck and continued to tap his lips intermittently like a chick pecking at rice, her hands moving freely up and down his body without any restraint.
Her fingers slipped between the buttons of his shirt; the buttons were close together, and three or four fingers would get stuck. As she kissed him, she used her thumb to help unbutton the shirt, and then she slipped her fingers all the way in.
He withdrew one hand, grabbed her wrist which was halfway submerged, and pulled it out to prevent her from touching it.
She seized the opportunity, using her little finger to hook his fingers and unbutton his cuffs one by one, then traced her way up his wrist to his forearm.
She noticed a slight change in his breathing rhythm, as if his arms were slipping into the fitted sleeves, stretching the fabric taut. The higher she went, the more difficult it became, until finally her hand could no longer reach him. Lin Lang stopped, her fingers bent, and gently touched the bulging veins on his forearm, then used her fingernail to trace a crooked, zigzag path along the veins.
His hand trembled slightly, and he stepped aside, fully extending his elbow to pull her mischievous hand out of his sleeve. Then, with a twist of his waist and abdomen, he easily sat up, supporting her weight.
Lin Langyi leaned back rapidly, causing his arm, which was protecting her behind her, to slam into the steering wheel, emitting a loud horn blast.
Yuan Chuyu's breathing became slightly erratic. He took a deep breath and reminded him, "If you don't go home, many people will come looking for you."
"Hmm." Lin Langyi pinched the hem of his loose shirt between two fingers. "Haven't people already found me?"
His tone remained unchanged: "I'll take you back now."
"Your birthday is in a few days, what gift do you want?" Lin Langyi asked, and she answered him in a roundabout way, tilting her head to say, "I definitely won't be able to give you a gift openly on your birthday, so how about I give it to you in the next couple of days?"
"Please sit down first."
Lin Langyi suddenly lowered her head and bit his lip: "Yuan Chuyu, I'm still not satisfied after my drive, and I'm still angry. I came to you to have some fun. If you take me back, I'll find someone else. So you should think it through. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Maybe when I wake up tomorrow morning and my senses return, I won't do this kind of thing again, staying out all night and messing around with my lover."
"If I regret it again and distance myself from you again, who knows when the next time will be?"
"I'm not angry." He finally answered her question. As he spoke, the small notch on his lower lip that she had bitten was more noticeable. The long kiss had made his thin lips moist and red, making them exceptionally beautiful.
His gaze was fixed on her face, and he didn't take her provocative words seriously. He knew she was in a bad mood today, so he explained, "I know that if I step aside during this special time, it will make things much easier for you. I didn't mean to make things difficult for you."
“But you can explain these things to me properly. I’m not someone who doesn’t know what’s important, am I?” His hand stroked up her long hair, finally touching the bracelet that served as a hair tie, and gently rubbed the moon-white pearl with his fingertips. “Instead of throwing out a sentence like ‘temporary separation’ that terrifies me… What does ‘separation’ mean? And how long is ‘temporary’?”
His next words were so light they seemed to vanish with a gust of wind, ethereal: "Were we really ever together?"
"Could you please not love me intermittently?"
Before Lin Langyi could answer, his phone vibrated, one after another, like a rhythmic electrocardiogram.
She caught sight of the large characters "Cheng Yanjin" on the screen.
Yuan Chuyu naturally saw it as well.
He didn't answer, but kept staring at her intently, waiting for her reply.
She knew he only wanted to have it once, and that she would choose him even if their secret was about to be exposed.
One time is enough.
It's simple. If she wants to show favoritism towards someone, it's a piece of cake.
The vibrations in the quiet carriage were no less than a small earthquake; you could almost imagine the tingling sensation on your skin through the air.
Lin Langyi sat on his lap with her legs spread apart, leaned over and opened her cycling bag. She pulled out an unopened pack of T-shirts from the small compartments inside, tore it open, and without even unbuckling his belt, went straight to unzip his pants.
He hadn't expected her to be so bold, and the rustling sound of the plastic film being torn made his eyelids twitch slightly.
His right arm was still resting on the center console, his fingertips hovering over his constantly vibrating phone, yet he remained seated, neither refusing nor taking the initiative.
She skillfully helped him put it on, propped herself up on her knees, bent her neck and lowered her head. Because she was afraid that there was not enough distance and she would hit the roof of the car, she also raised one hand to support herself on the roof of the car, crawled two steps on her knees, and sat down only after she was in the right position.
Both of them paused for a moment.
After a few seconds of calm, she picked up the phone and forcefully shoved it into his hand. She used her preferred force and angle, saying, "You know what? When I was little, I always secretly played on my tablet when my parents weren't home. Before playing, I had to carefully observe where the tablet was placed and what the volume was. After playing, I had to put it back exactly as it was, and it also had to be kept cool."
The phone automatically disconnected because it wasn't answered for a long time, and then rang again after less than two seconds.
Cheng Yanjin dialed again.
Lin Langyi began to shake up and down as she continued to recall: "Then one time my dad caught me when he came back halfway and gave me a good scolding. When I heard the door open, I knew it was too late. I was so scared that my heart was about to jump out of my throat. Sure enough, I got a good scolding afterward."
"After being scolded, I dared to do it again next time, and I learned from my failure. From then on, I no longer wore headphones on both ears, but left one ear exposed to listen to footsteps."
"But then I got caught again. I went through the whole thing a lot before I realized that my parents would put a hair between the tablet and the case. When I opened it, I didn't notice and the hair fell out. When I put it back, of course it was gone. So as soon as they opened the case, they would find out that I had been playing on the tablet."
“Then next time, I learned my lesson and continued to sneak around,” she said, her face gradually flushing. “Actually, I was nervous every time. Several times I barely managed to get back when my parents came back, and I got caught, scolded, and cried and sincerely repented, deciding to become a heartless machine that only knew how to study. But next time, and the time after that, I still played.”
She heard his disordered breathing and the grip on her arm tightening. She lowered her head and nuzzled him with her nose: "So, you can't listen to what someone says, you have to look at what they do."
"So what if I say so many words of repentance? So what if I write so many guarantees? So what if I'm nervous like I'm on a roller coaster every time? I'm not—" She accidentally sat down a little too deep, and the words stuck in her throat for a long time before she trembled as she continued, "...repeatedly trying to find ways to play on the tablet?"
The call connected a second before the vibration stopped.
Lin Langyi used his hand to swipe open the connection.
When both of them were already infatuated.
On the phone, Cheng Yanjin didn't show any anxiety from the barrage of calls. His tone was even calm. He asked right away, "Brother Yu, I just remembered that it's your birthday soon. How about we brothers celebrate at your house again this year?"
Yuan Chuyu didn't answer immediately because Lin Langyi pressed her body against his the moment the call connected and sucked on his lower lip, which had a small cut.
There was a lot of noise coming from Cheng Yanjin's side. He seemed to be sitting in a car with the windows wide open. He continued, "What gift do you want? I'll bring it to you later."
Kissing became the most important thing. Yuan Chuyu, who could have multitasked, didn't even want to pick up his phone at this moment. He put it on speakerphone and threw it onto the passenger seat, where it landed right on the opened box of T.
The cardboard box was knocked over and fell under the seat, with the remaining pieces scattered on the carpet.
It wasn't a big commotion.
Cheng Yanjin: Are you home?
Yuan Chuyu embraced the person in front of him, his tongue probing between her teeth, all his previous indifference now reduced to ashes. He pulled her closer, then greedily straightened up and pressed himself against her, accidentally bumping into the steering wheel as she retreated.
The loudspeaker sounded its whistle once again.
Just as she had said, Lin Langyi couldn't help but feel physiologically tense when the time came, causing him to gasp for breath and struggle to control himself. The cramped space made it difficult to move freely, and she quickly ran out of strength, so she could only lean against him, listening to the phone call with her ear turned to the side.
Yuan Chuyu turned off the car decisively and replied briefly when he had a moment: "No, I'm driving."
The sound of Cheng Yanjin's turn signal coming on could be clearly heard from his side. The wind gradually stopped, probably because he had closed the window.
He said, "Hmm."
"Is there anything else?" Yuan Chuyu put one arm around her, while reaching for his phone with his other arm across the passenger seat. "Hang up?"
“Okay, let me know when you’ve decided what gift you want,” Cheng Yanjin said. “I’ll give it to you when I get back from my business trip.”
Perhaps it was the combined stimulation of the environment and the phone call, and the fact that it had been a long time since the last time he had been with her, but Lin Langyi was still not satisfied after the conversation ended, so she bent over to the side to pick up another piece.
He held her waist, stopping her from bending over. He then helped her put her clothes back on, just as he had done to her earlier. He used up a lot of tissues in the car. After taking care of her, he looked down at his own trousers, which were of varying shades, and casually wiped them.
"Going home?" he asked.
"I'm not going back." Lin Langyi was browsing hotels on his phone, still teasing him, "Do you want to book a room, or do you want to go back to Dingpu Residential Area together?"
"Let me make this clear first, Cheng Yanjin is probably already a little suspicious. That day, Chi Shu was on the 17th floor, and Cheng Yanjin was right next to me when the elevator came down."
"If you're not afraid, what do I have to be afraid of?" Yuan Chuyu started the car again after finishing his work. With a swipe of the wipers, the windshield, which had been washed by the rain and turned into a frosted texture, finally became clear.
He asked for her opinion: "Where would you like to go?"
Lin Langyi turned his phone over to show him, revealing a newly booked hotel room.
He accepted the package, upgraded to a better suite, paid the bill promptly, turned on the navigation, and drove away in the rain.
She parked the motorcycle casually, and when they went to the hotel, they had to swipe their ID cards. Lin Langyi didn't even wear a mask and openly held Yuan Chuyu's hand to go to the front desk to scan their faces and register. There were surveillance cameras everywhere, and she even smiled at the floor's surveillance camera before going upstairs together.
Tonight, she doesn't care about what she should or shouldn't do, what is rational or impulsive, or what potential insecurity or slip-ups she might make. She wants to allow herself to abandon everything and de-stress in the darkness.
Tomorrow? We'll talk about it tomorrow.
This table-flipping behavior seemed to visibly brighten Yuan Chuyu's mood; he always became more clingy afterward, and today was no exception.
In the short time it took to go up in the elevator, he would wrap his arms around her and place them on her stomach, gently rest his chin on her head, and hold her in his arms as she stood with her back to him, casually lowering his head to kiss the crown of her head.
“If you’re free tomorrow morning, I can go to the mall with you to buy a gift.” Lin Langyi looked up and met his lowered gaze.
They shared a kiss very naturally, and she said, "I've already decided what to give you."
