"Huo Tingxiao, you're here!"
Wen Xingyue had been at the Wen family home all day and was just about to have dinner when Huo Tingxiao arrived.
She ran to the door, wanting to run towards Huo Tingxiao.
Unfortunately, her brother grabbed her by the back of the neck.
"It's cold outside, go back and put on some clothes." Wen Rushang glanced at his sister's thin sweater and didn't let her go out.
"Yes, I've come to pick you up and take you home."
Huo Tingxiao's smile was gentle.
"Okay." Wen Xingyue turned and went back to the living room.
"Tsk tsk tsk~ Would we still be eating if Yueyue were at home? It's only been a short time since we separated and you've already come?"
Wen Rushang stood with one hand in his pocket, watching his good brother rush over.
"We've been separated for eight hours."
Huo Tingxiao corrected him in a serious tone.
They parted ways in the morning and it's almost evening now.
"..." Wen Rushang.
Did he really want to know how long they had been apart?
"Dad and Mom," Huo Tingxiao called out to Wen's father and mother again.
"Hey, Tingxiao's here. Come in and sit down, it's cold outside. Have you eaten?"
Mr. Wen came out to greet them.
"Not yet, I just came out of the team."
Huo Tingxiao shook his head; he returned to his unit that afternoon.
After he came out, he went straight to the Wen family's house.
There are some things I need to talk to my parents-in-law about.
"If you don't have any, come in quickly! We haven't eaten yet, let's eat together."
Father Wen pointed to the food on the table that they hadn't touched yet.
"good."
Huo Tingxiao looked at Wen Xingyue, who was surrounded by her mother and sister, with a deep smile. She put down the things she was carrying in the living room, washed her hands in the kitchen, and then sat down at the dining table.
"Tingxiao, I heard from Yueyue that you're planning to go back to the army?"
As soon as he sat down, Mr. Wen began to speak.
The Wen family does not have the custom of not speaking while eating or sleeping; they prefer to eat together in a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
"Well, Dad, I've thought about it, and I still want to go back to the army. But don't worry, I will do my best to take good care of Xingyue."
Huo Tingxiao thought that Wen's father was not very willing to let him return to the army. After all, returning to the army would mean that he and Xingyue would be separated for longer periods of time. Wen's father was a doting father to his daughter, so he had some objections.
He looked at Wen's father, pursed his lips, and had to speak seriously.
“It’s good to go back to the army. It’s good to go back to the army. The country needs you now. Do your job well when you’re back. Don’t worry. Although Yueyue is a bit mischievous sometimes, she will definitely not distract you in the army. Just do your job well when you’re back. Don’t worry about home. Yueyue, your parents are busy. You can come home to live with them.”
When Wen's father saw Huo Tingxiao's solemn and serious appearance, he suddenly laughed.
He's not some unreasonable father-in-law. His son-in-law is a soldier who defends the country. Without their selfless struggle on the front lines, they wouldn't have the peaceful life they enjoy today.
With such a son-in-law, countless people envy their family.
If the son-in-law really abandons his own responsibilities for the sake of his daughter, Mr. Wen thought he might have to reconsider whether his daughter and such a person are really a good match.
A man who is obsessed with romantic love and neglects his responsibilities is unreliable.
In the afternoon, my daughter told them that Huo Tingxiao was going back to his unit.
Wen's father asked his daughter whether Huo Tingxiao wanted to go back on his own, or whether she asked him to go back.
Learning that Huo Tingxiao wanted to go back on his own, and also hearing about his struggles from his daughter, she was happy that her daughter had grown up, and also happy that her son-in-law had not made a decision on his own, but instead struggled and ultimately stuck to his principles.
A nation comes before a family.
Only when the country is stable can they have a stable life.
"Dad... thank you, I toast you."
Huo Tingxiao lowered his eyes slightly, stood up and poured a glass of wine for Wen's father.
"We're family, let's not talk about these things."
Mr. Wen drank it with a smile.
"Alright, alright, let's eat. It's getting cold, the food will get cold quickly."
Wen's mother waited until they finished speaking before speaking.
"Tingxiao, please eat more. Don't be shy, make yourself at home."
"Okay, Mom."
Huo Tingxiao took a shrimp and peeled it for Wen Xingyue, responding to Wen's mother with a smile in his eyes.
...
"It's raining, Tingxiao. Why don't you stay home tonight? We've always kept a room for Yueyue. She hasn't been home for a long time, and you won't have many opportunities to come home after you go back to the army. Why don't you stay home tonight?"
The family had a lively meal, and it was getting late. Looking out the window, they saw a light drizzle starting to fall.
Wen's mother looked at Huo Tingxiao expectantly.
Wen's mother wanted her daughter to stay at home for one night since her daughter hadn't stayed at home for a long time.
"Okay, Mom, then I'll take my leave."
Huo Tingxiao could easily see that Wen's mother missed her daughter, so he did not refuse.
"No problem, no problem. I'll go ask Aunt Liu to check if anything is missing upstairs." Mother Wen smiled, her wrinkles deepening.
"Xingyue, could you please take my clothes upstairs and leave them there, so I don't forget to bring them up later?"
Huo Tingxiao stood up and handed his coat to Wen Xingyue.
“Okay, Mom, let’s go up together.” Wen Xingyue followed her mother like a little shadow.
His actions to clearly send Wen Xingyue away were observed by the Wen family, but they said nothing.
...
"Dad, there's actually something else I wanted to tell you today."
Huo Tingxiao sat down on the sofa opposite Wen's father.
“Tingxiao, we’re all family, so just say what you have to say,” said Father Wen, looking at Huo Tingxiao’s solemn expression.
"We're all family, why are you hesitating to speak?"
Wen Rushang held a newspaper in his hand and, seeing his good brother's rare hesitation, joked with him.
"Dad, brother, Xingyue's family may have shown up."
Huo Tingxiao wasn't one to dawdle, so he spoke up.
