Chapter 17 Wen Rushang

When Wen Xingyue woke up the next day, Huo's mother had already taken Huo Tingjun to the hospital for a check-up, Huo Tingxiao had gone out to run errands, and Huo's father went to work as usual, leaving her alone at home for the time being.

"Xingyue, why did you wake up so early today?"

"The kitchen has left your breakfast warm; I'll go get it for you."

Wang Ma, who was cleaning the living room, was a little surprised to see Wen Xingyue coming downstairs in a daze. She didn't expect Wen Xingyue to get up so early today.

She put down what she was doing and went into the kitchen to bring her breakfast.

"Thank you, Aunt Wang." With breakfast time, Wen Xingyue's still somewhat groggy mind instantly cleared. She quickly ran to the dining table with her little steps and sat down obediently.

Soon, Wang Ma brought out breakfast: steamed corn dumplings, meat buns with thin skin and lots of filling, a cup of fragrant soy milk, and a bowl of eight-treasure porridge.

"Xingyue, I'm going out to buy groceries later. What would you like to eat?"

Wang Ma gazed lovingly at Wen Xingyue, whose cheeks were bulging as she ate with relish.

Since what happened with Lao Liu, the Huo family has stopped having anyone deliver vegetables to their home; Wang Ma personally goes to the market to buy them every morning.

"Wang Ma, I want to eat meat, braised pork, stir-fried pork with green peppers, and pickled fish."

Wen Xingyue loves meat; she can't live without it.

"Okay, I'll go buy it in a bit." Wang Ma agreed with a smile. "Xingyue, just put the dishes in the kitchen after you finish eating, and I'll clean them up when I get back. I'm going out to buy meat now."

It was neither too early nor too late. Wang Ma had originally planned to go out to buy groceries after tidying up the house, but she happened to run into Wen Xingyue waking up, which delayed her a little.

"Hoo." Wen Xingyue mumbled in response, biting into a meat bun.

"Xingyue, your brother might send someone to deliver something to the house later. It's someone your brother sent. Don't be afraid, Xingyue."

Just before leaving, Wang Ma remembered something and turned to Wen Xingyue, giving her some words of advice out of concern.

These next two days, Wen Rushang will be sending someone to deliver things. Wang Ma is worried that if she's not home, Wen Xingyue will be afraid of strangers.

"I know."

...

After finishing her meal, Wen Xingyue took the dishes and chopsticks to the kitchen. Looking at the unfamiliar kitchen, she looked at the sink and then at the old faucet. Her fair fingers touched it and gently twisted it, and a thin stream of water flowed out.

Wen Xingyue found it fascinating and slowly applied some force, gradually increasing the water flow.

Soon, the sink was filled to the brim with water.

Wen Xingyue recalled the memory of standing at the kitchen door watching Wang Ma cook. She had a good memory and could remember almost everything she saw. Soon, she figured out what to do next. She picked up a dishcloth and dipped her hand into the deep water, took out a bowl from underneath, and clumsily wiped it.

"Smack—"

The crisp sound of a bowl shattering echoed in the quiet kitchen.

The bowl somehow slipped from her hands, and Wen Xingyue stared blankly at the bowl that had shattered into several pieces on the ground.

Are plates really that fragile?

It will break if you drop it.

Wen Xingyue was stunned.

Neither the previous Wen Xingyue nor the current Wen Xingyue has ever entered the kitchen or done housework.

One was pampered since childhood, the other was never even human before.

Because Wen Xingyue used too much water, and it was her first time washing dishes, she was clumsy and the plates were oily. She lost her grip and dropped them on the ground.

Wen Xingyue frowned, her delicate eyebrows furrowed in worry as she looked at the debris on the ground. She thought she had gotten into trouble. Would Huo Tingxiao and the others be angry?

There was a knock on the door. Wen Xingyue frowned and glanced at the debris on the floor. Without bothering to clean it up, she carefully avoided the broken pieces and stepped out of the kitchen. "Wait a minute, I'm coming."

Wen Xingyue opened the door, and a tall shadow fell on her head. The person was very tall, and Wen Xingyue had to look up to see him.

"Yueyue?"

A deep, surprised voice sounded from above.

Wen Xingyue vaguely felt that the voice was somewhat familiar, and she carefully examined the familiar yet unfamiliar man in front of her.

The man had handsome features, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, a gentle and refined face, a straight nose, and healthy, rosy lips.

A white shirt and black trousers—a clean and neat outfit.

A feeling of goodwill arose in Wen Xingyue's heart.

"Brother?" she blurted out the term instinctively.

"What's wrong? You don't recognize your brother after just over two months?"

Wen Rushang gazed tenderly at his younger sister, who was up to his shoulder, and subconsciously reached out to rub her head.

[Brother? Is this what it feels like to have a brother? He's so handsome and gentle, I love him.]

A gentle rubbed against her head, and Wen Xingyue instinctively nuzzled against it, her charming eyes curving with pleasure. She trusted this person completely.

A soft female voice suddenly rang in his ears. Wen Rushang's gentle eyes widened slightly. He looked down at the person in front of him carefully. He was certain that his sister had not spoken. So where did that voice come from?

Wen Rushang was about to listen carefully to distinguish the sound, but it disappeared in the blink of an eye, and he heard nothing at all.

Wen Rushang had just returned from Shanghai after a long journey. After washing up and tidying up at home, he thought about the comments he had heard on his way back about his sister changing.

Worried that her younger sister might be wronged, she rushed over.

I didn't expect to see her as soon as I arrived.

The previous anger was completely gone from his eyes; he found fault with everyone.

Although she is still spoiled and willful, she has completely lost her previous temper.

It seems that Tingxiao's return really did change my sister's personality.

...

"What were you doing just now?"

Wen Rushang entered the living room and looked around.

"I... just broke a bowl in the kitchen."

Wen Xingyue carefully avoided the broken pieces of porcelain on the kitchen floor and carried the cup to the living room, placing it in front of him. "Brother, have some water."

Before Wen Rushang could even wonder why his younger sister was so obedient, he suddenly heard her break the bowl. He immediately stood up, pulled Wen Xingyue up and down, and looked her over with worry in his eyes.

"Did you break the bowl? Are you hurt? Did you break any pieces of porcelain?"

"No."

Wen Xingyue shook her head honestly.

Those shards of porcelain look so sharp, I don't dare touch them. They're still lying on the ground. I wonder how I'm going to explain this to Wang Ma and Huo Tingxiao when they get back. I don't know if they'll be angry. Maybe I should sneak out and buy one and put it back?

Wen Xingyue has been in the human world for so long, and every day she just eats, drinks, sleeps, and plays with Xiao Pang. She has never faced these things before, and she is timid about everything unknown.

She initially chose to wash dishes simply to try it out, but what happened afterward completely surprised her.

The voice rang in his ears again, and Wen Rushang was stunned. He was certain that his sister had answered those two words and then remained silent.

Is that long string of words that followed what the younger sister was thinking?
