Chapter 53 Speculation

"No need, just tell me where you live, and I'll rent a place around there."

Li Tianbai waved his hand in refusal.

Li Tianbai didn't really care where he lived or his quality of life. He had experienced all sorts of hardships before, sleeping in alleyways without feeling bitter. When it rained, he would find shelter; if someone chased him away, he would leave. When he was hungry, he would collect scraps to sell for a few cents and buy a steamed bun, and that would be the end of the day.

But now, looking at that pampered little girl, dressed in all the finest clothes, and then at his own tattered clothes standing next to her, Li Tianbai couldn't bear to look at himself.

I'd better rent a place and find another opportunity to buy some clothes.

I can't let my little apprentice down.

"You've already agreed, so why aren't you calling me Master?"

Li Tianbai suppressed his heavy thoughts and looked at Wen Xingyue.

He said it with a hint of helplessness.

This little girl has already agreed to his request, yet she still doesn't call him "Master" right away; he has to say it himself.

“? Master.” Wen Xingyue was stunned for a second before she reacted and simply called out.

[The little peach blossom spirit has a master in the human world now! I've heard that masters are very protective of their disciples. The elders and powerful cultivators that Grandpa Tree mentioned in the secret realm are all very protective of their disciples. Will the little peach blossom spirit have a master to protect her from now on?]

Wen Xingyue had heard Grandpa Tree talk a lot about humans in the secret realm, especially about sect masters and elders taking on disciples.

In Wen Xingyue's heart, having a master is equivalent to having someone to protect her.

“Now that you have called me Master, I will always protect you.”

A rare smile appeared on Li Tianbai's lips at the joy in her words. "This is a gift from Master for my apprenticeship."

Li Tianbai rummaged through the tattered bag he always carried with him and pulled out a wrapped silk handkerchief. He opened the yellowed handkerchief to reveal a small white bag inside. He touched the white bag nostalgically, then handed it over without the slightest reluctance.

This thing needs to be passed down.

He no longer had the energy for that, and could only place his hopes on his young apprentice.

The layers upon layers of enclosure suggest that what's inside must be extraordinary to him.

Li Tianbai was filthy from head to toe, but his small white bag was clean.

Huo Tingxiao looked at him after hearing his words, and he was certain that Li Tianbai could also hear Xingyue's thoughts.

Upon receiving Huo Tingxiao's probing question, Li Tianbai glanced at him indifferently and said nothing.

He knew what Huo Tingxiao was thinking.

"Thank you, Master." Wen Xingyue called out in a crisp and sweet voice, her eyebrows curving and her pretty and lovely face unable to hide her smile.

Wen Xingyue's childlike and cheerful words made Li Tianbai's lips curl into a smile.

His little apprentice is like a little bundle of joy.

Then... I certainly can't let this little ray of sunshine down. I have to take good care of her from now on.

Li Tianbai's indifferent gaze softened only when it fell upon Wen Xingyue.

And so, just by chance, when she went out for a trip, Wen Xingyue met a master who loved her very much.

...

"Xingyue, you're finally back! I was so worried about you for so long. I thought something had happened to you."

After selling the scrap metal, the group returned to the Fang family home. As soon as they appeared at the intersection, Huo's mother, who had been waiting there, quickly walked over.

He grabbed Wen Xingyue and looked her up and down.

She didn't care about her two sons; she only cared about what had happened to Wen Xingyue.

"Yueyue, if you don't come back soon, we're going to have to ask someone to help us look for you."

Fang Yihan's face was also filled with worry.

"Mom, Auntie, we didn't encounter any trouble. We went out and bought lots of delicious food. I also have a master now."

Wen Xingyue obediently let them pull her along and scrutinize her, excitedly sharing with them what had happened to her that day.

"Look, this is my master."

She pointed to Li Tianbai beside her.

The tone was boastful.

A master is different from family members.

"?"

Before the two sisters could react, she suddenly announced that she had a master. They turned to look at Huo Tingxiao and his brother and noticed Li Tianbai standing beside them.

"Who is this old gentleman?" There was no disdain in the eyes of Mrs. Huo and the others.

"Mom, Auntie, this is Mr. Li. Xingyue has become Mr. Li's apprentice to learn medicine."

Huo Tingxiao explained.

...

The family ate dinner.

The Fang family prepared a guest room for Li Tianbai to stay in.

"Sir, the restroom is here. I found you a set of my father's clothes. If you don't mind, please wear them for now. We'll get you a new set tomorrow."

After a brief explanation, Huo's mother and the others were thrilled to learn that Li Tianbai could cure Huo Tingxiao's leg injury. They were even more eager to learn that he had taken Xingyue as his disciple.

Mr. Huo found a set of his maternal grandfather's clothes and handed them to Li Tianbai.

Having just arrived at the Fang family's residence, Li Tianbai hadn't taken a bath in a long time, and he wanted to wash up.

Although he felt a little embarrassed, Li Tianbai still carried it to keep things clean and tidy.

The Fang family had a water heater and a private bathroom, so they readily agreed and even helped find some clothes.

"Tingxiao, who is this old man Li? Can he really cure your leg?"

While Li Tianbai went to wash up, Wen Xingyue and Huo Tingjun went to the yard to catch fireflies. Huo's mother and the others sat on the sofa and questioned Huo Tingxiao in detail.

How did she manage to find someone who could cure her leg after just one trip out? Yueyue even recognized that person as her master.

They had no objection to Wen Xingyue recognizing Li Tianbai as her master. As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered. Even if she played around all day, they would be happy. With so many people in their family earning money, they could afford to support her.
