Chapter 43 Huo Tingxiao's Little Thoughts

"You're up?"

Huo Tingxiao, who was sitting in the living room downstairs, heard the footsteps coming from the stairs. His deep, affectionate eyes looked up with a smile, but his eyes revealed surprise.

"Huo Tingxiao, hug me—"

Wen Xingyue yawned, her eyes glistening with a misty haze, and took small, quick steps as she nestled into his arms.

Huo Tingxiao used his arms to lift the little girl up and sit her on his lap.

"Why did you get downstairs if you weren't fully awake?"

Huo Tingxiao tidied her messy hair from sleeping, then lowered his gaze to her reddened eyes, which were glistening with tears.

It's only a little past one in the afternoon, and she's only slept for less than half an hour. The little peach blossom spirit clearly hasn't had enough sleep; she usually sleeps until three o'clock.

"I can't sleep."

Wen Xingyue clung to Huo Tingxiao like a koala, her soft, delicate face resting against his broad shoulders. Inhaling his familiar and comforting scent, her moist, peach-blossom eyes narrowed again, and she became drowsy.

Huo Tingxiao was muscular and broad-shouldered, while Wen Xingyue was petite, her small figure nestled within the man's tall frame.

[Huo Tingxiao isn't here, I can't sleep. Thinking of him all alone downstairs, even the little peach blossom spirit can't sleep. Huo Tingxiao is so lonely.]

A soft, weak voice reached her ears, and Huo Tingxiao tightened his grip on her waist and shoulders, subtly holding her even closer.

Why is she so adorable?

[It feels so comfortable leaning against Huo Tingxiao, I feel sleepy, yawn—]

Wen Xingyue was really sleepy, but after going upstairs, the image of Huo Tingxiao being unable to go upstairs due to his leg problem and having to stay downstairs kept replaying in her mind, so the little peach blossom spirit couldn't fall asleep.

I managed to fall asleep, but my mind was still hazy and filled with thoughts; I couldn't sleep for most of the day as usual.

"If you're sleepy, take a nap. You can lean on me and sleep, okay?"

Huo Tingxiao's hardened heart was soaked in sweet water, softening and swelling. He gently patted her slender back, his deep, magnetic voice filled with coaxing.

"Um...no."

Wen Xingyue's ears tickled, and she let out a soft moan. Worried that she might fall asleep on Huo Tingxiao if she lay on him for too long, she tried to climb off him.

"I'm so heavy, what if I crush Huo Tingxiao?"

Wen Xingyue was quite aware of her weight. She was 1.6 meters tall and looked thin, but she had flesh in all the right places and weighed about 100 pounds.

"You're not heavy, go to sleep. You'll keep me company. I can sleep while I'm holding you."

Huo Tingxiao stopped her from lying down, restrained her waist, and pressed her back against him. This girl wasn't even as heavy as the sandbags he used to pull during military training. How could she be heavy?

It's so soft and chubby, it's really comfortable to hold.

Huo Tingxiao felt the slender waist around his hand and couldn't help but caress it.

The girl looks thin, but she has curves in all the right places and no excess fat in the right places.

It feels incredibly comfortable to touch.

"Um?"

Wen Xingyue was confused and couldn't process Huo Tingxiao's last sentence. She was still half asleep and felt sluggish. She was also weak and couldn't break free from Huo Tingxiao's grasp, so she leaned against him again.

I instinctively rubbed against it.

Wen Xingyue really enjoyed being held in someone's arms, which gave her a feeling of security reminiscent of being surrounded by a tree full of blossoms.

“I’m in a wheelchair, so it’s hard for me to rest. If you lean on me, I can rest for a while when I’m sleepy.”

Huo Tingxiao already fully understood the meaning conveyed by the little peach blossom spirit's short words.

"Okay, then if you're tired, lean on me and rest for a while."

Wen Xingyue didn't think, nor did she want to. She believed whatever Huo Tingxiao said. Now, without any psychological burden, she leaned softly against Huo Tingxiao again and closed her eyes to sleep.

Huo Tingxiao turned his head to look at the person sleeping with her head on his shoulder. He gently patted the little girl's back to coax her, his eyes so tender they seemed to overflow with water. He lightly touched the little girl's head with his forehead, his eyes filled with love.

His, Little Peach Blossom Spirit.

There was no one in the living room; everyone had gone for their afternoon nap.

"Why did Yueyue come down?"

Fang Yihan doesn't really like taking afternoon naps. She went upstairs to read for a while, then got a little hungry and thought she'd go downstairs to get something to eat. When she went down, she saw her nephew's eyes filled with love.

She kept her voice very low, afraid of waking Wen Xingyue.

"Auntie, could you get me a light blanket?"

A fan was on in the living room, blowing directly at the two of them. Huo Tingxiao was worried that the fan would make Wen Xingyue feel cold.

Huo Tingxiao hadn't thought things through. He forgot that it wasn't good to make any other movements while holding her, and he forgot to prepare a light blanket for her. He couldn't push the wheelchair to get a blanket while holding her, and he was also afraid of waking the little girl in front of him. So he could only turn to the side and try to shield her from the wind.

Now that Fang Yihan has come down, Huo Tingxiao breathed a sigh of relief.

"Okay, wait a minute."

Fang Yihan turned around and immediately went upstairs to get a thin blanket.

"Shall I put this on Yueyue?"

She took it and was about to drape it over Wen Xingyue.

"Thank you, Auntie, I'll take care of it."

Huo Tingxiao took it, opened his arms, and used the thin blanket to cover the person.

This girl likes to sleep with a breeze even when the weather isn't too hot, otherwise she'll whine and throw a little tantrum.

“I’m not home today, so I can’t go upstairs. Yueyue isn’t sleeping well, so I came downstairs.”

Huo Tingxiao casually offered an explanation.

His words subtly contained a hint of boasting.

Because he wasn't there, the little girl in his arms couldn't sleep.

I never imagined that my nephew, who was always known for his calmness, coldness, composure, and steadiness, could be so lively and cheerful.

Fang Yihan found it amusing.

"I don't know who said they wouldn't get married before."

Huo Tingxiao used to devote himself to the military. He had long decided to dedicate his life to the army. As he got older, more and more people around him started urging him to get married. Huo Tingxiao became impatient with dealing with these people and announced that he did not plan to get married and would serve the army for the rest of his life.

At that time, Huo Tingxiao never thought about getting married. He was on a mission, which was always dangerous. No one knew whether they would be able to come back next time. Huo Tingxiao did not want to make people worry with him.

Therefore, he never considered marriage, nor did he ever like anyone.

However, due to a series of unexpected events, he ended up at his friend's house and was taken in by his friend's sister. Huo Tingxiao got married hastily without any prior knowledge of what was to come.

Huo Tingxiao smiled but didn't say anything, only lowered his eyes to gaze at the little person in his arms.

Before meeting her, Huo Tingxiao had never considered marriage.

Now that he has her, Huo Tingxiao has never thought about divorce.

...

"Yueyue is quite clingy to you."

Fang Yihan, who had no use for anything, stood to the side, her eyes crinkling, and teased her nephew in a low voice.

I have to hold him while I sleep.

"You'd better take good care of her. Our Yueyue is so beautiful. If she gets kidnapped, you'll have nowhere to cry."

...
