Chapter 27: Tailoring

On the first day of March, everyone got up early. After discussing and researching all night, every family had their favorite private plot.

Fu Manshan and Jiang Fengxia's house is far away from others and at the end of the village, so the piece of vacant land next to it is just right, not too much, not too little, just enough to meet their family's needs. Most importantly, no one else will compete with them.

The two old men worked with everyone for a whole morning. After coming back, they didn't even want to eat and immediately rushed to their own fields. They were native farmers, and nothing made them happier than owning a piece of land of their own.

Jiang Fengxia was in a good mood as well. She had swept away the gloom that had arisen from her daughter's marriage in the past few days and was full of energy and spirit again. After returning, she went to the backyard to work. She had to make a place for the piglets.

Fu Xiuzhi was carrying Baoer on her back, with Zhaozhao and Panpan following behind her, busy preparing lunch in the kitchen.

She really didn't know that her family was well off. Her parents told her mysteriously not to ask too many questions or say too much, as everything they had at home was normal and she should just enjoy it.

Fu Xiuzhi has been obedient since she was a child. No matter how many doubts she has in her heart, she will never doubt her parents. She is very satisfied with her current life, so she doesn't meddle in other people's affairs.

Four dishes and a soup were prepared for lunch. Fu Xiuzhi’s cooking skills were good. The braised pork was oily but not greasy, salty with a hint of sweetness, bright in color, and melted in the mouth. Panpan was so greedy that his mouth was watering.

In addition, I also made stir-fried chicken with green peppers, stir-fried rapeseed with mushrooms, and stir-fried yam. The soup was an ordinary tomato and egg soup. The staple food was heated up fried food left over from the Chinese New Year, such as toon sprouts, eggplant boxes, lotus root boxes, etc., and heated up some big flower rolls, and the meal was complete.

Fu Manshan took a bite of the braised pork and squinted his eyes happily. "Our daughter's cooking skills are really good. I don't know how she learned it, but how she cooks it differently from others!"

"What's the matter? The food I cooked is not delicious, and you don't even praise me!" Jiang Fengxia pretended to be angry.

Fu Xiuzhi was amused by her parents. She had never seen them so happy.

"I know a lot of things, I'll cook them all for you guys from now on!"

Zhao Zhao and Pan Pan cheered, "We want to eat meat!"

Fu Baoer watched eagerly, counting the days on her fingers in her mind. She hoped that by next month, she would be able to have a taste of the meat!

"We have more family members and we can't afford to live here anymore. When Zhaozhao and Panpan grow up, they'll need their own houses," Fu Manshan calculated the family's money. "When spring planting starts, I'll find a chance to talk to the village chief and ask them to come and build a few more houses for us."

Jiang Fengxia had the same idea. "We only have two inner rooms now. Your father and I have two rooms, and your three nieces should each have one. I think the front yard is big enough, so we can just build two rows of east and west rooms on both sides. When the three of them grow up, they can move in."

"Grandma, am I going to have my own house now?" Zhao Zhao stared with wide eyes, unable to believe it.

Jiang Fengxia smiled and patted Zhao Zhao's head. "Yes, you three sisters all have your own rooms."

Zhao Zhao was so happy! She never dreamed that she could live in a room!

Fu Xiuzhi originally wanted to ask her parents if they had enough money, but when she saw Fu Manshan and Jiang Fengxia looking so confident, she didn't say much.

"No rush. After we finish the spring feast tomorrow, we'll start the spring plowing. We'll be busy. It'll still be in time to build the house in April." Fu Manshan finished his meal, still thinking about his private plot. "You guys eat, I'll go plow the soil."

"Why are you in such a hurry? You're always busy," Jiang Fengxia complained. "We haven't even found any seeds yet!"

Fu Baoer thought that there were still many seeds stored in her cave, so she dug out some common ones and found a few fruit tree seedlings to put in the house for her grandparents. After the backyard was planned, she would throw in a few chicks and rabbits.

After Jiang Fengxia had her fill, she went back into the house to make clothes for her daughter. Fu Xiuzhi came back empty-handed, without taking anything with her. She couldn't bear to let her daughter suffer like this.

Fuxiu cleaned up the dishes neatly, while Zhaozhao and Panpan wiped the table in the back in an orderly manner.

When Song Fang came to breastfeed, she felt that her godmother's house was clean and tidy. She couldn't help but feel sorry for Fu Xiuzhi. It was really unlucky for such a good woman to end up with a man like that.

"Sister, you are really neat. You cleaned the yard so well that there is not even a speck of dust left."

Fu Xiuzhi smiled shyly, "Sister Xiaofang, please don't laugh at me. This is all I can do."

"What are you talking about?" Song Fang picked up Bao'er and kissed him twice. "Didn't my father say the other day that if the villagers have anything, they can take it to the market or the supply and marketing cooperative to exchange it. You have such good craftsmanship, you can exchange anything you make for a lot of good things!"

Jiang Fengxia also agreed, "That's right, Xiuzhi, you're very skillful, and the clothes and jackets you make are better looking than others. When I save up a sewing machine for you, you can make a few clothes for people every year and make a lot of money! Look at the tailor in the production team next door, he's so popular and makes a lot of money."

Fu Xiuzhi was a little tempted. If she could make money, she wouldn't have to eat and drink for free at home. "Can I do it? I haven't learned to make clothes. I learned everything by myself. I'm afraid others will look down on me..."

"Well, we're all farmers, how can we be so picky? You can just learn slowly." Song Fang was still very confident in Fu Xiuzhi. "There's no rush for this. We still have a long way to go."

Fu Xiuzhi thought about it and realized that this made sense. She could try her hand at making clothes for her family first, slowly accumulate some experience, and then make clothes for others in the future.

"Sister Xiaofang is right. I have this skill and can help support my family. I can't rely on my parents for support all my life!"

"Aunt, Zhao Zhao will support you when he grows up!"

"We'll raise Panpan too! We'll raise Panpan too!"

Fu Xiuzhi made her two nieces laugh and kissed each of them. "Dear, I'll be waiting for you to grow up."

Make clothes? Fu Baoer thought that she actually had a lot of high-quality fabrics in stock, but they were too eye-catching and difficult to take out. If her aunt had this skill, it would be great if she had the opportunity to open a clothing store in the future!

Fu Baoer didn't know what a sewing machine was, nor how much it cost. She just quietly put another gold bar in where it was kept.

After feeding the baby, Song Fang went home.

Fu Xiuzhi carried Baoer on her back, picked up a hoe and went to help Fu Manshan turn the soil.

The private plot has been surrounded by a fence by Fumanshan, with a small gate on one side.

Fu Baoer is very satisfied with his own private plot. It is neat and tidy, close to home, and very convenient.

She wanted to plant lush green vegetables here, catch fat insects to feed the chickens, and use the piglets' rice fields as fertilizer.

She wants to turn her own private plot into the most fertile vegetable garden in the village!
