Chapter 6 Escape: Quite Strange

Master Mu was furious. He threw the silver note at Liu Yu's face and roared, "Liu Yu, you lecherous scoundrel, you went back on your word and tricked me! I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget..."

After saying this, Master Mu raised his fist high.

Liu Yu was focused on pleasing the Mu family so he could marry Shen Yu in the future, so he would never make a move and could only close his eyes and wait.

Huh?

Why hasn't Master Mu's fist landed yet? Instead, a faint fragrance of flowers wafts by. Opening his eyes, he sees Chen Yu's hair bun right next to his mouth, adorned with a white jade hairpin. Her hair is gentle, elegant, and refined, just the woman he longs for.

Shen Yu shielded him from Master Mu's fist, a gesture that had been so desperately sought after.

He was secretly delighted, but little did he know that Chen Yu's words would make his heart sink.

"Father, please don't be angry. How can we argue with such scoundrels as snakes and rats? Let's think of another way."

Rogue? Liu Yu's heart was breaking. Although he was idle and did not do any proper work, he would never break his promise to Chen Yu. If it weren't for the feud between Grand Tutor Zhang and the Mu family, how could he have taken Hong Yu away?

He lowered his head, looking like a wilted eggplant, and quietly withdrew from behind Chen Yu.

"Is the fish's leg healed?"

Master Mu was overjoyed. He had been furious just moments before, but now he bent down to examine Chen Yu's legs. "Father listened to Yu'er and didn't argue with the scoundrel."

“Father, I will take Hongyu to the palace immediately to meet the Emperor.”

As Chen Yu spoke, she pulled Hong Yu's hand and led her out of the hall.

Hongyu broke free from Chenyu's hand, her crescent-shaped eyes beneath her bangs already brimming with tears. She knew Chenyu's intentions; even if she were given her freedom, what difference would it make? Wouldn't she still be helpless, powerless, and without influence?

Liu Yu's actions just now must indicate that he recognizes the auspicious cloud jade pendant. As long as we stay by Liu Yu's side, we will surely be able to find out the whereabouts of our biological father.

Besides, even if Liu Yu had ulterior motives towards her, it was still better than waiting to die in the Bai residence.

"Hongyu is willing to follow Young Master Liu. I hope you will take care of yourself, young lady." After saying this, Hongyu left with Liu Yu.

This greatly worried Shen Yu, who had no choice but to go to the palace to see the Emperor. Little did she know that Liu Yu had already taken Hong Yu to the Zhang residence.

------

The Zhang residence was brightly decorated with lanterns and colorful streamers, and the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers. Maids and servants were busy bustling about in the courtyard.

Grand Tutor Zhang is unconscious, yet the Zhang family is still celebrating so joyously.

Hongyu was puzzled but dared not ask, and followed Liu Yu into the Zhang residence.

Madam Zhang, carrying a handkerchief and supported by a nanny, came to greet them, followed by several burly men.

"Young Master Liu, please return. The Grand Tutor has already given orders that if Xiansheng meets with Young Master Liu again, his legs will be broken. Of course... the Grand Tutor will also report your illicit affair to the Emperor."

Liu Yu smirked and chuckled, bobbing his head and squinting his eyes, seemingly both helpless and dismissive of Madam Zhang's warning.

"Madam, you are overthinking this. I am doing a good deed today. I have found my mentor's daughter in Jiangnan."

As Liu Yu spoke, he turned to Hongyu and winked. "Hongyu, hurry up and greet your mother."

Hongyu was not one to fawn over others, but she succumbed to the allure of a noble family.

If she were the daughter of the Grand Tutor, she would definitely marry as the principal wife, and the lowly statuses of maidservants, concubines, or mistresses would be irrelevant to her.

It's likely that... Bai Yehua will have to think more highly of her when he sees her in the future.

She glanced at Madam Zhang furtively. She was tall and broad-shouldered. Apart from her beautiful almond-shaped eyes, her appearance was average. In particular, her nostrils were upturned, making her look like someone not to be trifled with.

Seeing Madam Zhang's gaze fall upon her, she hurriedly lowered her eyes, bowed, and said, "Hongyu greets Mother. Mother is well."

Madam Zhang stepped forward and, with a delicate gesture, lifted Hongyu's chin: a small, round face, crescent-shaped eyes, and thin lips, just like Grand Tutor Zhang.

Madam Zhang's eyes darted around, and she smiled thoughtfully. She released Hongyu's chin, wiped her fingers with a handkerchief, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "Is there a token?"

Hongyu hurriedly took out the auspicious cloud jade pendant and handed it over.

Madam Zhang examined the jade pendant carefully, put it away, and turned to the nanny beside her, instructing, "Nanny Cui, take the second young lady to bathe and change her clothes first. Don't forget the rules of the manor."

Why the second daughter?

Hongyu was puzzled. She was the eldest daughter of Grand Tutor Zhang, and should be a young lady.

Before Hongyu could react, Granny Cui stepped forward and helped her walk away.

"Second Miss, you must be tired from your journey. This old servant will help you."

"Don't worry, Granny Cui."

Hongyu stopped and looked at Liu Yu, who had already been asked to leave by Madam Zhang.

"Granny Cui, why is Madam in such a hurry to send Young Master Liu away?"

"Second Miss, please don't make things difficult for this old servant. This is a matter for the mistress, and this old servant doesn't know the details."

Hongyu followed Granny Cui to the outside of the bathhouse. A girl in a pink dress with bangs that reached her eyebrows came out of the bathhouse, her head down, wiping her eyes, as if she had just been crying.

Granny Cui bowed and greeted her, "Third Miss, Madam requests your presence in her room."

The third sister's eyes reddened as she moved closer to Hongyu and examined her closely. She couldn't help but exclaim, "Sister Hongyu is so beautiful! A round face, crescent-shaped eyes, and thin lips—she's definitely Father's daughter!"

Hongyu asked curiously, "How does Third Miss know who I am?"

“Your father went to Jiangnan to look for you before, but he returned empty-handed. I never expected that you would come to me on your own.”

The third young lady was quick to warm up and took Hongyu's arm to continue the conversation. "My name is Zhang Changle, the second young lady of the Zhang family. Oh, no, you've arrived. I am the third young lady, and I have an older brother."

This brought up Hongyu's doubts again, and she hurriedly grabbed Changle's sleeve and asked, "How old is your brother? Was he born and raised by Father in the capital?"
