Chapter 212 Why are you here?

Chapter 212 Why are you here?

The next morning, Gu Nian came to find Gu Chongshan.

"Dad, are you ready?" Gu Nian put down the backpack.

"Wait a minute, your father is eating. Boss, have you eaten? If not, come in and have something to eat." Zhang Dahua said as she poked her head out of the kitchen.

"I'm ready to eat, mom, you don't have to worry." Gu Nian said as he walked into the house.

In the room, Gu Chongshan was eating. The old couple had a simple breakfast, just pancakes from Zhang Dahua's stall and cornmeal porridge.

"Boss, would you like to eat some more?" Gu Chongshan said when he saw Gu Bei come in.

"No need, Dad, I've eaten." Gu Nian sat on the kang and watched Gu Chongshan eat.

Seeing that Gu Nian didn't eat, Gu Chongshan also quickened his eating pace.

"Old man, when you go to town, please go see Gu Xiang. I wonder how she is doing these days?

Guo Erlang didn't know whether he had broken up with that widow?

"Our girl has such a hard life. She met a man like this, but she is so stubborn and refuses to divorce no matter what. I don't know if Guo Erlang will change in the future." Zhang Dahua said worriedly, thinking of her only daughter.

"Well, I'll ask the second son to call Gu Xiang over for lunch today. Then I'll ask the second son's family to ask her." Gu Chongshan is the father, and he believes that girls should stay away from their fathers when they grow up. There are some things that his daughter can't tell him.

"That's fine. We have a wild rabbit at home. You can give it to Gu Xiang. We will take better care of her. I hope Gu Xiang can have a better life in the Guo family." Zhang Dahua said.

After dinner, Gu Chongshan took the wild rabbit that Zhang Dahua prepared for Gu Xiang and went out with Gu Nian.

There was no conversation along the way. Gu Chongshan and Gu Nian arrived at Gu Bei's rented house around ten o'clock in the morning.

"Dad, there's no one at home. Where is the second son's family?" Gu Nian said, looking at the lock on the door.

"I don't know? Go ask the neighbors." Gu Chongshan sat on the steps.

"Okay, Dad, you take a rest first, I'll be there soon." Gu Nian said and went to the neighbor's house next door.

After a while, Gu Nian came back and said, "Dad, the second son's family went back to their parents' home today, and the second son went to work.

"Then let's go find the second brother first. He's at work and probably won't be back.

Let’s deliver the things first, and then go to your second uncle’s house,” said Gu Chongshan.

Gu Chongshan had a good idea. Since his daughter-in-law was not at home, they were afraid that it would be difficult for their daughter if they went to her house. After all, Gu Xiang had parents-in-law and sisters-in-law above her.

So I can only go to Uncle Gu’s house first.

The two arrived at the restaurant where Gu Bei worked, and Gu Bei was greeting guests attentively.

Seeing someone coming in, Gu Bei greeted them habitually: "Guests? Are you in the private room upstairs or... Dad? Big brother? Why are you here?"

Before he could finish his words, he found that it was Gu Chongshan and Gu Nian who came in. He quickly pulled Gu Chongshan and Gu Nian outside.

"We have something to discuss with you. Can you take a break?" Gu Chongshan said.

Gu Bei looked at the guests who came in to eat and shook his head. "It's dinner time now. I can't ask for leave. Dad, big brother, you guys go to my house first. I'll go back after I'm done with the busy lunch."

"We went to your house, but there was no one at home and the door was locked. The lady next door said Yingdi had gone back to her parents' home." Gu Nian explained.

"This spendthrift woman insisted on going back even though I told her not to. Just wait and see how I'll deal with her when I get back." When Gu Bei heard that Li Yingdi had gone back to her parents' home, he muttered a few words in annoyance.

"It's okay, I have the key. Dad, you guys go home and wait for me first." Gu Bei said as he took out the key.

Gu Chongshan originally wanted to leave the things here for Gu Bei while they were going to Uncle Gu's house.

Now that Gu Bei has the key, he can go back and wait.

"Dad, you guys go back first. I'm going to get busy." At this time, someone called Gu Bei from inside. Gu Bei stuffed the key into Gu Nian's hand and went back to work.

Gu Chongshan and Gu Nian returned to Gu Bei's house.

It was already noon and the two of them were growling with hunger, but Li Yingdi was not at home and there was no one to cook.

"Dad, how about I go buy two steamed buns?" Gu Nian said, covering his hungry stomach.

"What are you buying? Steamed buns cost money, right? Shuanzi will be coming to town to study, and that's going to cost a lot of money.

Even if you have money, you have to save it. There will be many places to spend money in the future.

Don't underestimate these few cents; isn't that how we save our money?" Gu Chongshan said earnestly.

"I know, Dad. I'm just worried that you're hungry," said Gu Nian.

"I know you are filial, but we have to live frugally these days.

So, you take a pheasant and we'll go to your second uncle's house. He runs a restaurant and he can get us some leftovers so we won't go hungry.

It's a good opportunity to talk to your second sister-in-law about the big girl." Gu Chongshan's mind was clattering.

They came with a pheasant and could get a free meal, and they could also talk to Aunt Gu about finding a husband for the eldest daughter.

If he's lucky, a big boss might come to eat there and he might be able to bring back some leftovers.

When Gu Nian heard Gu Chongshan’s words, his eyes lit up. Why didn’t he think of it?

"Dad, you are so thoughtful. Why didn't I think of it?" Gu Nian scratched his head foolishly.

"Why else would I be your father? With your stupid head, what can you think of?

"Okay, grab the pheasant and let's go." Gu Chongshan said with a proud look on his face, but pretended to be calm.

When the two arrived at Uncle Gu's restaurant, it was the peak dining time.

Uncle Gu's restaurant business is neither good nor bad, and there are still a few tables of people eating.

When Second Uncle Gu saw Gu Chongshan and Gu Nian coming, his attitude was not exactly enthusiastic. It felt like a poor relative from his hometown came and he felt he did not welcome them but had to receive them.

"Brother, Gu Nian, why are you here?" asked Uncle Gu.

"We came to see my second brother's wife for something." Gu Chongshan found an empty table and sat down.

"She's looking after her grandson in the back. I'll go call her out." Uncle Gu said and went to the backyard.

"What? Your eldest brother and the others are here? What are they here for?" Aunt Gu handed her grandson to her daughter-in-law and followed Uncle Gu out.

"Brother, Gu Nian, when did you come today?" Aunt Gu asked with a forced smile.

"I came to see you for something. This is some homemade dried chicken. I'll give you one to try." Gu Chongshan didn't say what he wanted first, but handed the gift over first.

You know what, a pheasant is quite powerful. At least the smile on Aunt Gu's face became much more sincere.

"Oh, this is good stuff, big brother, you haven't eaten yet, right?

Chonghai, go see if there's anything to eat in the back and bring some over for Big Brother and the others to fill their stomachs." Aunt Gu said with a smile.

There were leftovers from the guests in the kitchen, so there was no need to bother. Uncle Gu also brought a few steamed buns, which were enough for Gu Chongshan and his father.
