Chapter 3: Deep Mountains and Old Forests

Chapter 3: Deep Mountains and Old Forests

"Ah~." This was already Li Wanqing's third day in the mountains. Apart from seeing a few families in a valley on the first day, she hadn't seen a single person in the past three days.

"I can't hold on any longer. Let's take a break and eat something." Li Wanqing found a shady place and stopped.

After eating steamed buns for two days, she felt a little tired and wanted to make some dumplings today.

It is March or April now, when wild vegetables are at their freshest. This place is deep in the mountains and forests, so wild vegetables can be found everywhere. She plans to make dumplings with shepherd's purse and pork filling today.

Shepherd's purse is readily available, and there is plenty of it in the area where she is staying.

The pork was from her refrigerator in the space. Speaking of this, she had to thank herself for putting all the things in the house into the space that night.

Including the things in the kitchen, the refrigerator was also put in at that time.

She originally thought that there was no electricity in the space, and the meat in the refrigerator would definitely be melted beyond recognition.

I didn't expect that after several days, the things in the refrigerator were still the same as before.

The Chinese spinach that she bought casually looked the same as if it were new. Li Wanqing knew that this space had a fresh-keeping function.

After digging a handful of shepherd's purse, Li Wanqing looked around to see that there was no one around and then entered the space.

Kneading dough, chopping stuffing and making dumplings are all tasks that Li Wanqing is used to doing.

Her biological mother died early, and after her father remarried, a stepmother appeared in the family. Later, her stepmother gave birth to a younger brother for her.

Her life has been neither good nor bad these years, and her stepmother is not as vicious as everyone says.

I treated her normally and provided her with food and drink. Of course, it wasn't that good of a thing.

Although her father didn't reach the point where he had a stepfather just because he had a stepmother, he was obviously better to his younger brother than Li Wanqing.

Perhaps because she knew that she was redundant in this family, Li Wanqing had been able to read people's faces since she was a child, and would do housework sensibly when she got home from school.

After I passed high school, I moved into the old house my grandmother left behind and rarely went back.

So when traveling to another world, Li Wanqing had no concerns about her family at all.

While thinking about something, he didn't stop working with his hands and soon made fifty dumplings.

There was no electricity in the space, so the induction cooker couldn't be used. Fortunately, she brought in all the pots at home.

I found three larger stones outside and picked up a lot of dry firewood.

A simple stove was built on the ground in the space, and dumplings were cooked in an aluminum pot filled with pond water.

Of course she couldn't finish fifty dumplings, so she ate fifteen and had thirty-five left for next time.

After finishing her meal and resting for a while, Li Wanqing picked up the wooden stick and continued walking.

After climbing over another hill, Li Wanqing really couldn't walk anymore, and the sun was about to set.

Li Wanqing dug some more wild vegetables and put them into the space.

She rested in the space at night for these three days.

There are wolves and tigers in the deep mountains. Although she has not seen any so far, she hears the howling of wolves and tigers every day.

At first she was so scared that she immediately hid in space, but later she realized that there was no need to be afraid just by hearing the sound, because the wolves and tigers were actually very far away from her.

Now Li Wanqing has become accustomed to hearing the roars of wolves and tigers from time to time.

Just like now, she could hear the howling of wolves, tigers and unknown beasts in the space.

Li Wanqing didn't eat dumplings for dinner. She cooked millet porridge and ate a steamed bun.

Today she did not go to bed after dinner, but instead took inventory of the food in the space.

Although she moved everything in the kitchen, she was the only one at home and didn't have much food stored.

That is, two bags of rice, each weighing 20 jin, and two bags of flour, each weighing 20 jin. The reason I bought two bags was because the supermarket was having a promotion, so I bought an extra bag of each.

The other things were 30 kilograms of corn bran and 15 kilograms of cornmeal. She had diabetes and the doctor told her to eat more whole grains.

There are also 10 kilograms of millet, 10 kilograms of grains, 2 kilograms of mung beans and 2 kilograms of red beans. These are also because it is good for diabetics to eat more grains.

The rest was the dry food taken from the carriage, including five large cakes, twenty steamed buns, and a small box of various pastries and candied fruits, weighing probably two or three pounds.

She can eat the food for a whole meal.

There is quite a lot of oil, including 45 kilograms of peanut oil and 48 kilograms of melon seed oil.

This was because she felt that the oil she bought was adulterated, so she went to the oil press workshop to buy peanuts and melon seeds and fried them herself.

The vegetables consisted of a handful of Chinese chrysanthemum, a handful of lettuce, and a few potatoes.

It’s easy to solve the problem of not having enough vegetables. There are wild vegetables everywhere outside. You can just pick some and you will never lack vegetables.

The main reason is that there is not much meat left in the refrigerator, only a little over three pounds but less than four pounds of pork.

There was a little more beef than pork, about five pounds. She wanted to braise the beef, but something went wrong before she could do it.

Other things I had were a small bag of pistachios, a small bag of almonds, half a carton of milk, a bag of soy milk powder, and a box of sugar-free whole-wheat bread.

Because she has diabetes, she can't eat or drink normal snacks and drinks, so she didn't have any.

If she had known she would travel through time, she would have prepared more cola, fried chicken, etc.

Alas, it’s no use saying anything now. Let’s think about what to do now.

Logically speaking, as long as there is space, she can survive alone in the deep mountains and forests.

But humans are social animals after all. She had been wandering around in the mountains all day alone without anyone to talk to. She was afraid that she would eventually forget how to speak.

Li Wanqing estimated that she had already reached the depths of the mountains. Turning back was obviously not an option. She didn't know if the bodies of those people had been discovered. If she turned back, she would be walking into a trap.

Since we can't go back, we can only move forward.

She didn't know how big the mountain was, and how many days it would take to get out of it.

Even if she left, she would not have a household registration, and she did not know what the procedures were for household registration here.

The original owner didn't know this at all. She was sold as a child and became a slave. Even though Li Wanqing now had the original owner's household registration, she didn't want to use it.

She didn't want to become someone else's slave and be beaten and scolded at will, with her life and property in the hands of others.

Li Wanqing estimated that if she kept going forward and got out of the mountains, she would reach another state capital. Then she would find a way to buy a house and register her household there.

Li Wanqing thought it over, boiled some water, took a bath, and then fell asleep on the bed.

Early the next morning, Li Wanqing got up, ate two slices of bread, drank a bag of milk, then left the space and started on her journey.

After climbing over another hill, Li Wanqing found a shady place to sit down and rest.

She occasionally pulled at the weeds on the ground, her eyes looking around unconsciously.

It was just a coincidence that not far in front of her, there was a plant with bright red fruits that looked so much like ginseng seeds.
