Chapter 59 Shock
"My name is Lu Xinyao," the little girl answered clearly. Then, catching Jiang Yining off guard, she suddenly leaned in and gave Jiang Yining a big, wet kiss on the cheek, leaving a wet, milky-scented kiss.
"Oh dear." Jiang Yining was delighted by this sudden "attack," and she hugged Xiao Yaoyao and laughed heartily, her laughter clear and melodious.
Standing to the side, Shen Nian'an had already quietly taken out her phone and recorded this heartwarming yet hilarious scene in its entirety. She smiled, tapped her finger lightly, and sent the video to her contact, Xie Shiyan.
Almost immediately, her phone vibrated. Shen Nian'an opened it. Xie Shiyan: [Don't let Xiao Xiao drive.] Concise, to the point, and precise.
Shen Nian'an looked at the words on the screen, then at Jiang Yining, who was laughing so hard she was almost falling over while holding little Yao Yao, and finally couldn't help but burst out laughing. This living devil's focus was definitely only on his precious Ningning baby.
Lu Jingshen's parents slowly walked over and saw Jiang Yining surrounded by Xiao Xiao and Shen Nian'an from afar. The two froze on the spot.
"Old Lu...I...am I seeing things?" Lu's mother's voice trembled and she gripped her husband's arm tightly, her nails almost digging into his flesh.
"That...that Ningning...it's Ningning." The sunlight was blinding, and that smiling, smiling profile was clearly Jiang Yining, the Jiang family's daughter who had grown up right under their noses eight years ago and then suddenly passed away. In broad daylight, could it really be a ghost?
Seeing her in-laws' horrified expressions, Xiao Xiao's heart skipped a beat. She quickly stepped forward and explained using the same excuse her mother had given her: "Dad, Mom, don't get excited. This is Aunt Pei's (her mother's) youngest daughter, whom she had lost for many years and only recently found. Her name is Ningning." She forced a smile, trying to make the atmosphere more natural, but her smile betrayed a guilty embarrassment.
Mr. and Mrs. Lu exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with disbelief, as if to say, "Do you think we're fools?" They were longtime neighbors with Mr. and Mrs. Jiang for decades; they knew exactly how many people were in the Jiang family. Did they really not know whether Pei Huifang had been pregnant with three children back then?
However, looking at Jiang Yining's face, so familiar it was heartbreaking, and seeing the warmth and affection in her eyes that belonged to "Jiang Yining," the rational doubts in Lu's parents' hearts were instantly overwhelmed by a surge of emotions.
It doesn't matter how she came back, or what her identity is, as long as she's alive and standing here safely, that's enough.
Lu's mother's eyes instantly reddened. She shook off her husband's hand, took a few steps forward, and without saying a word, tightly grasped Jiang Yining's hand with astonishing force. Her voice choked with emotion, filled with the excitement of regaining what she had lost and an indescribable sorrow:
"Good child, it's good that you're back, it's good that you're back." She kept repeating this, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. "From now on... from now on, everyone must be well, do you hear me?"
Mr. Lu stepped forward and patted Jiang Yining's shoulder heavily with his large, warm hand. His Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice was hoarse: "Yes, being well is more important than anything else."
Jiang Yining felt the trembling warmth from the two elderly people's palms, and seeing the undisguised concern in their eyes and the deep sadness etched in their eyes because of her "departure," her heart softened.
She squeezed Lu's mother's hand back firmly, her voice clear and resolute: "Yes, Uncle and Aunt, don't worry, we will all be fine."
At this moment, Shen Nian'an also came over with her son Zhou Huaijin. The little guy was as beautiful as a porcelain doll, his big, dark eyes looking curiously at the newly appeared pretty "auntie".
Jiang Yining's eyes lit up the moment she saw the adorable children, and the sad atmosphere from before vanished instantly. She squatted down, took one in each arm, and pulled Lu Jingshen's daughter and Shen Nian'an's son into her arms, nuzzling and kissing them, making the two little ones giggle.
Seeing Jiang Yining holding the baby with such affection, Lu's mother smiled through her tears and couldn't help but tease, "If you like children so much, hurry up and have a few yourself. While your Uncle Lu and I are still able to take care of them, we'll help you. It'll be more lively with more kids in the house."
Holding the soft, cuddly baby, Jiang Yining, her playful side awakened, replied with a smile, "Yes, definitely. We'll have a whole football team of babies, and they'll be pestering you and Uncle to take care of them every day. Don't complain about how tiring it is."
"Not tired at all." Lu's mother laughed heartily, and the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes smoothed out. "No matter how many kids we take care of, it's not tiring. We can invite Li Wan (Xie's mother) to come along, and the old ladies can keep each other company while we take care of the kids. That would be truly enjoyable."
After exchanging a few jokes, Jiang Yining and the others said goodbye and went to attend to their kindergarten business. Watching their car merge into the traffic, the smile on Lu's mother's face gradually faded. She immediately took out her phone, found Xie's mother Li Wan's number, and dialed it.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable..."
Several times in a row, all I heard was a cold, indifferent notification sound.
