Chapter 88 Travel 1
It was late at night. The lights were still on in the CEO's office on the top floor of the Xie Group. The large desk was piled high with documents awaiting review. Xie Shiyan had just finished a transoceanic video conference, and a hint of weariness lingered between his brows.
Secretary Lin tiptoed in, placed a document requiring urgent signature beside him, and whispered, "President, Madam... just finished a project celebration banquet, and the driver has safely taken her back to Lanting Yazhu. However,"
He paused, a helpless smile appearing on his face. "It seems that Madam has brought back a lot of project materials again, saying she needs to rush to complete an analysis report. I guess... she'll be staying up all night again."
Xie Shiyan pinched the bridge of his nose, sighed helplessly, but his eyes were full of indulgence: "I know." He waved for Secretary Lin to leave.
After finishing the last urgent document, the wall clock pointed to one o'clock in the morning. Xie Shiyan shut down his computer, picked up his suit jacket, and drove back to Lanting Yazhu.
The villa was quiet, with only a small, warm yellow light left on in the entryway. He tiptoed up to the second floor and pushed open the slightly ajar door to the master bedroom.
Only a bedside reading lamp was lit in the room. Jiang Yining was indeed not asleep. She was wearing comfortable cotton pajamas, sitting cross-legged on the large bed, with a pile of documents and a laptop spread out beside her.
At this moment, her little head drooped down little by little, eventually resting on the pile of pillows. Her breathing was even and long, clearly she was exhausted. Her hand holding the electronic pen was still loosely resting on an open project proposal, the screen glowing softly.
Xie Shiyan quietly walked to the bedside, looking at her slightly furrowed brows and faint dark circles under her eyes even in her sleep. He leaned down tenderly, carefully took the pen from her hand, closed the laptop, and gently tidied up the scattered documents.
He gently laid her down and covered her with the blanket. His fingertips brushed across her slightly cool cheeks, lingering on her slightly parted lips, which held a hint of weariness.
He leaned down and placed a very light and gentle kiss on her smooth forehead. Then, as if by magic, he pulled a golden lemon candy from his suit pocket.
He unwrapped the candy, but instead of putting it in his own mouth, he gently placed the crystal-clear candy, which exuded a refreshing sweet and sour aroma, between Jiang Yining's slightly parted lips.
As Jiang Yining slept, she seemed to sense that familiar taste. She unconsciously smacked her lips, her brows relaxed, and a satisfied, childlike smile even appeared on her lips, as if she had tasted the sweetest honey in the world.
Xie Shiyan gazed at her sleeping face, his cold, stern features completely melting, a gentle ripple spreading across his deep eyes. He whispered, his voice filled with doting affection:
"My lemon... the sweetness is just right."
Two months later
The digital clock on her desk struck 5:00 PM, and Jiang Yining opened and sent the last document, officially announcing the start of her month-long vacation.
"Sister Tong, I'm leaving the rest to you." She casually tossed the other documents to the team leader. "Call me if anything urgent comes up, but—" she winked slyly, "it's best if nothing happens."
Luo Zhitong hurriedly caught it, watching her subordinate twirl around lightly like a bird released from its cage. This position was truly awkward; for the past two months, Jiang Yining had practically lived in the office, working late into the night being the norm.
Everyone knew what she was rushing to do—she'd squeezed out a month-long vacation to get her work arranged ahead of schedule. The elevator went straight to the underground parking garage. Jiang Yining spotted the familiar black Maybach from afar, along with the man leaning against it reading documents.
Xie Shiyan was dressed casually today, a rare occurrence. His light gray cashmere sweater accentuated his upright shoulders, and his gold-rimmed glasses perched on his high nose bridge, gleaming faintly under the cold white lights of the garage.
Hearing footsteps, he looked up, his eyes behind his glasses instantly lighting up: "Is everything taken care of?"
"Mmm," Jiang Yining jogged a few steps and threw herself into his arms. "From now on, Mrs. Xie is officially on vacation."
Xie Shiyan caught her steadily, took off his glasses, and took a deep breath while looking down at her hair: "Mrs. Xie, do you still remember that you have a husband?" His tone was filled with undisguised resentment.
For the past two months, Jiang Yining has been incredibly busy, even spending weekends buried in her work in her study. The coffee Xie Shiyan brought her went from hot to cold, and the dinner he prepared was reheated again and again. In the end, she could only helplessly hug her pillow and fall asleep alone.
"To make it up to you," Jiang Yining tiptoed and pecked him on the lips, "One month, do with it as you please."
Xie Shiyan's eyes darkened, and he picked her up and put her in the car: "Remember what you said."
