"Ah Shu, Ah Mu, didn't the academy give you anything to eat?" Madam Shangguan waved her hand, signaling the servants to clear the table.
The two brothers exchanged a glance, their eyes revealing a sadness that only they could understand.
"Mother, let's not dwell on the past. Life is full of trials and tribulations," Shangguan Shu lamented.
The Shangguan family "..."
"Someone, fetch a doctor for the young master!" Shangguan's father roared. Alas, his son's studies had even damaged his brain.
The Duke of Jin's Mansion.
Bei Yan lay down on her soft bed, her rosy face filled with contentment.
"This is the kind of life a person should live! Don't you think so, Da Bai?"
With a small hand, she pulled Bai Tuan into her arms, and rubbed her face against the fluffy cat.
Her face went blank, and the warm touch in her hands disappeared. "Big... Junlin? Why are you out here? Hug me."
This guy rarely appears in human form in broad daylight, so Bei Yan happily jumped out of bed and clung to Jun Lin like a human-shaped pillow.
Jun Lin blushed uncomfortably and reached out to pull the little guy off him, but Bei Yan's grip on his neck tightened.
Fearing the little one might accidentally fall, I had no choice but to stop and try to keep my expression normal.
"Cough, get down."
"No way, don't even think about it." Bei Yan tightened her grip on Jun Lin's body, clinging to him like an octopus.
"Little one, be good, okay?" The voice was magnetic and pleasant, with an alluring quality.
The familiar tone made Bei Yan tremble, her nose tingled, and her eyes instantly reddened.
"Waaaaah, Junchen, you remembered me, didn't you? You finally remembered me, didn't you?"
Overwhelmed by a long-lost sense of familiarity, Bei Yan was overcome with emotion and cried so hard that her heart trembled.
Jun Lin's silver eyes darkened, and he patted the little boy's back gently until Bei Yan stopped crying before letting go of him.
The two sat facing each other.
"My name is Junlin, not Junchen." His face, as ethereal as a banished immortal, stated his words calmly.
"I know." I know you are Junchen, you just don't remember me.
Thinking of this, Bei Yan pouted, and tears welled up in her eyes again.
"Don't cry." Jun Lin's long, handsome eyebrows furrowed into a deep frown.
"I won't cry." Bei Yan sniffed, trying hard to hold back her pathetic tears.
"Do you really...like me that much?" Jun Lin didn't realize that his ears were turning suspiciously red when he asked this question.
"Of course! Just wait a little longer. When I grow up, I'll devour you completely, or rather, I'll marry you and make you my husband."
Bei Yan clenched her little fist, her rosy face showing determination.
"Okay." The familiar, pleasant voice was still alluring.
Bei Yan: "Huh? You, you, you, what did you just say?"
She suspected she was hallucinating, otherwise why would she hear Junlin seemingly accept her confession?
A smile, beautiful enough to eclipse all else, graced his ethereal face; his hands were fair and slender with distinct knuckles.
He gently rubbed the fluffy head of the dumbfounded little one in front of him. "I'll wait for you to grow up, I'll wait for you."
He paused here, and a mischievous smile flashed in his silver eyes beneath his narrow eyebrows.
"I'll wait until you marry me."
A gentle breeze carried the sweet fragrance of crabapple blossoms from outside the window into the room, ruffling the hair of the two people inside.
Silver and black hair intertwined, as if silently telling the story of their love that had lasted for millions of years.
