Chapter 125 Extra 2

"Yuri! Want to grab a drink after work?" A thirty-something Alpha man in a white lab coat approached Yuri's desk. "I see you've been busy today."

"Yeah," Yuri replied briefly, tidying up the table as he answered, "Paternio assigned me the case reports for several patients who had recent appointments."

"That old man, Patenio," his colleague snorted. "He always likes to push menial tasks onto newcomers with no background, not to mention you... cough." He suddenly felt that discussing those groundless rumors in front of the person himself was impolite, so he swallowed the next few words. "So, do you want to go to the bar with me later?"

"I'm not going. I still have a lot of work to do..." Yuri paused and said hesitantly, "Besides, it's been years since I last went to a bar."

And that one experience left such a deep impression on him that he had no good feelings towards this somewhat chaotic entertainment venue from then on.

"Well," the colleague said regretfully, "Paternio won't have to give you any trouble after a while, because there will always be new interns to take charge of... We'll be leaving now. Good luck with your overtime work, my friend!"

A group of people walked out of the office in a mighty manner, leaving only Ulysses Valen and another poor Omega intern Lyle.

"Uh..." After the others had gone away, Lyle wanted to complain to Yuri, but he saw him sit down silently and continue working without any reaction. "How much work did Patenio leave for you?"

Yuri raised his lifeless eyes and looked back at him, pointing to the things on his desk: "I can leave after you finish reading these."

"Ugh." Lyle smacked his lips. "So much?! Can you get off work before nine?"

"Maybe……"

"Paternio is a complete bully," Lyle angrily slammed the table. "I'm just an intern! It's okay to be underpaid, but why should I have to work overtime until this hour?"

"I think..."

"And the Alpha you just spoke to, was his name Andrew or Johnson? His eyes are literally stuck to his forehead! He never looks me in the eye when he talks to me. Do you feel that way?"

“…”

"If I hadn't had an accident while submitting my resume, I wouldn't have come to this remote clinic to work for a bunch of uneducated bosses and clients."

Lyle took a deep breath in anger mid-sentence, and Yuri finally had a chance to speak up. "This is already a prime location in the Coliro District. The residents nearby are all wealthy or noble."

"That's nothing." Lyle curled his lips. "Do you know who my sister is? When she was working at the Capital First Hospital..."

However, Yuri had already lowered his head and continued working.

Lyle spoke angrily for a long time, but no one responded. Feeling bored, he lowered his head and pored over the documents on his desk for a few minutes, only to find he couldn't concentrate. The clinic's decision to assign him this kind of work was a complete overkill. After staring blankly at the back of Yuri's head for a moment, he suddenly asked, "Those people say you used to work part-time. Is that true?"

"...Is that so?" Yuri answered casually, writing quickly.

"Why? It's tiring, doesn't it hurt your hands?" Lyle's expression was a bit gloating, but Yuri didn't turn around and couldn't see it. "How old are you? Are you still single? There aren't many people in our line of work who can't find a partner."

Without waiting for Yuri to answer, he continued rambling, "If it's because of the low salary, doing odd jobs in an office won't earn you as much as being a private family doctor. I noticed you spoke quite well before, so you must have studied systematically, right? Have you encountered any accidents before? Speaking of which, I have a cousin who used to have a bright future, but he ended up in jail for fighting. After he was released after two years, he couldn't find a job. My mother used to use his experience to teach me a lesson, but now I'm doing much better than he did..."

Yuri suddenly slammed the drawer open.

Lyle's voice stopped abruptly, and he slowed down before saying, "Why are you making such a big move? You scared me."

"I'm busy with work." Yuri said in his listless and low voice without any inflection. "You can wait until I'm done."

"...You're such a pushover," Lyle muttered. "You just do whatever they tell you to do. They won't even give you a raise."

He stared at the report in front of him for a long time, and finally picked it up reluctantly and read it carefully.

The office welcomed the long-awaited quietness.

Around 9:30 p.m., Yuri stood up, stretched, and let out a long breath. He stuffed the stack of documents in his drawer and shut down his computer. A familiar, pleasant sound rang out clearly in the silence. Lyle suddenly looked up in surprise and asked, "Are you done?"

Yuri had already started putting on his coat: "Yeah."

"Hey?! Wait a minute! I still haven't finished reading yet!"

"What does that have to do with me?"

"You!" Lyle's eyes widened. "Isn't it a gentleman's duty to pause and wait for an Omega to catch up?"

"Is that true?" Yuri thought about it in confusion and couldn't help yawning. "I'm leaving now. The office key is in the cabinet. Remember to lock the door."

"Wait!" Lyle panicked. "Don't leave yet! It's so dark outside, I don't dare go home alone!"

"...but we don't live together?"

Lyle glared at him, then hesitantly said after realizing what was happening, "But, but the security in this area has been bad lately. I hear there's a criminal gang roaming around. I'm an Omega, after all. Do you have a car? Can you take me home? Please, I'll treat you to dinner tomorrow!"

Yuri wanted to ask if this had anything to do with being an Omega. But as he looked at Lyle, he realized that with his fragile body, going out at night, regardless of gender, could be dangerous—even if someone stole your wallet, it would probably be difficult to handle it alone. So he sighed slightly, walked back, pulled up a chair, and sat down by the door.

"How long do you have?"

"Right away, right away." Lyle nodded frantically, then sat back down with a sigh of relief.

This wait lasted another hour.

Around half past ten, the neighborhood had fallen completely silent. Most of the nearby businesses and companies had turned off their lights and closed their doors, leaving only the street lights on.

Lyle kept apologizing to Yuri: "I'm sorry, I'm almost done. I don't want to stay so late, but Patenio needs to check tomorrow morning..."

So what were you doing this morning?

Yuri had a headache: "How about I help you take a look...?"

Lyle was overjoyed, as if he had been waiting for these words: "This part is up to you!"

I immediately complained in my mind: What an irresponsible Alpha! Why didn't you tell me earlier? No wonder he's not bad at all, despite his abilities and looks, yet he hasn't achieved much at his age.

The two of them finally finished the work before eleven o'clock. In the middle, Yuri sent a text message to Williams saying that he would be home late today.

Williams: What's wrong?

Yuri: Working overtime, got into some trouble.

Williams' response was intriguing: Stay safe.

But Yuri was busy teaching someone some basic skills from scratch, so he just glanced at it and didn't pay any attention.

"Ahhh—finally!" Lyle stood up with joy. "Your car is in the garage? Let's go now!"

Yuri watched speechlessly as he put on his coat at the speed of light and rushed out of the office. He had no choice but to follow him, lock the door, check the water and electricity, and then take the elevator to the underground garage.

However, the moment he stepped out of the elevator, Lyle softly exclaimed, "Why is it so dark?"

The garage should have power all day long, right?

Yuri frowned and looked around twice, then whispered, "Keep your voice down, I'll go check it out."

"Where are you going?" Lyle said immediately. "I'm coming with you."

Yuri did not refuse. The two of them located their destination in the dark, relying on their memory and sense of direction, as well as the sound and light emitted by the car keys unlocking in Yuri's hand.

After opening the back door, Lyle immediately got in: "I was so scared that I couldn't see anything..."

Before he could finish his words, Yuri, who was supposed to be in the driver's seat, bent down and opened the passenger seat drawer. He pulled out something that Lyle couldn't see clearly, but he knew it was probably made of metal. He then kicked the car door hard, blocking it to his side, and growled at Lyle, "Get down!"

Only when his own safety was at stake could Lyle react quickly—he lay down subconsciously even though he didn't understand anything.

At the same time, the sound of high-energy rays leaving the barrel, the sound of walls exploding, and the sound of alarms from nearby parked vehicles mixed into his ears. Leir's face turned pale with fear, and he shrieked, "What are you doing?!"

Yuri's voice remained calm, and Lyle could even imagine his expression as he lowered his eyes and looked gloomy.

"Self-defense. The criminal gang you mentioned earlier probably really used this garage as a temporary hiding place."

Lyle's voice became shrill with shock and disbelief. "How could you be so unlucky?! And why did you leave a gun in the car—and use it so skillfully?"

At this moment, he had a lot of thoughts in his mind.

For example, is the legendary "hourly worker" really the "hourly worker" he imagined?

Could it be a reference to some special job?

For example, he had just been bossing the other person around and saying a lot of 'not very subtle' things. If Yuri had put a gun in the drawer of his office...

At this moment, he was trembling and had only one thought: to thank his colleague for not killing him.

Why am I so unlucky?

Yuri was also thinking about this question.

He leaned against the car door, fighting guerrilla warfare with countless enemies in the dim emergency light, his mind pondering the incoherent text message Williams had sent him dozens of minutes ago. Oh, teacher, please explain it more clearly next time.

Your student almost spent the night in the clinic with an annoying Omega and a group of desperadoes...
