Chapter 144, "All Time Low"

The fourth one!

Song: "All Time Low" (Lowest Record)

Singers: Bei Chen, Lu Jiuyuan

Lyrics and music by Bei Chen

Performed by: Masked Band

(A song originally sung by American singer-songwriter Jon Bellion, later modified and remade!)

This section describes the cover version sung by Sam Tusui and Casey Breves.

The first three songs got the audience fired up, but this one switched to a softer tune.

This sequence can effectively prevent auditory fatigue.

But this doesn't mean the song is weak; on the contrary, it holds a place in pop music.

A melancholic, gentle piano melody slowly drifts in.

Like a bird's feather, it slowly falls into the water, and into the heart.

There wasn't a particularly upbeat melody, but my heart still fluttered.

“I was the knight in shining armor in your movie”

(I am the warrior in your movie wearing shining armor)

“Would put your lips on mine and love the aftertaste”

(Your lips touched mine, and I fell in love with the aftertaste.)

Lu Jiuyuan's singing voice came first. Like Lu Jiuning, he had also received a good education and his English was very fluent.

His singing voice is softer than Bei Chen's, but it is also more powerful.

High notes have always been one of his strengths.

Especially the moment he sang the first "I," the unique storytelling quality in his voice amazed the audience.

"Lost I ' ma ghost I call your name you look right through me"

(When I call your name, you will see through me and I will become a wandering ghost.)

"You ' re the reason that I just can ' t concentrate"

(You are the reason I can't concentrate)

"..."

Bei Chen's timbre and singing skills are naturally beyond question.

This combination of strength and gentleness creates a perfect balance in the song.

The most ingenious part is the transition between the two characters. They both play on the first word to add their own unique touch, creating a seamless connection without any sense of abruptness or discontinuity.

The best part is yet to come:

"Lie lie lie lie I lie I try to hide"

(Using lies to hide)

But now you know it.

(But you know very well)

The first "lie" was sung by Bei Chen, the second "lie" was sung by Lu Jiuyuan, and then the elongated ending note was used to form a chanting sound as background music.

The division of labor is clear, and no one takes over anyone else's part, but if one of them leaves, it feels like something is missing, and it's not perfect.

Such a transition is a model of duet singing.

Then came the chorus:

"That l ' m at an all time"

(That's why I've always been like this)

"Low low low low low low low low low"

(I'm so sad, so sad, so sad)

"..."

The abundance of "low" is precisely the song's most distinctive feature and the reason for its explosive popularity, but it also presents its greatest challenge.

If even one "low" has a problem, the whole thing can easily fall apart.

Similarly, one person sings the lead vocals, and the other provides backing vocals.

Strangely enough, with this kind of coordination, the 72 consecutive "low"s did not make people feel impatient at all.

On the contrary, each "low" has its own unique charm.

With the verses laying a deep foundation, the chorus has a feeling of spinning, gradually falling, becoming more and more somber, plain yet deeply saddening.

It forms a closed loop with the theme of the song, as if it is mocking something, or venting something, but it leaves the listener with a feeling of loneliness and heartbreak.

Such collaboration, such vocal skills, such a sense of melody—all these captivated the listener, making them fall in love with the song on their first listen.

As the song progresses, another 72 "low"s sweep in, further building up the emotions expressed in the song.

The third segment, "Low," has arrived.

But now you know it.

(But you know very well)

"That I ' m at an all time"

(That's why I've always been like this)

"Low low low low low low low low"

(I'm so sad, so sad, so sad)

"..."

The 28 "low"s here are sung in succession, but they also overlap in a wonderful way.

"That I ' m at an all time~~~"

Then, at the "time" part, there came the final outburst.

The two singers' high notes, lasting for six seconds, brought the song to its climax.

I'm not reconciled!

anger!

It's as if it's asking why I'm always the one who fails?

Why am I always the one who's sad?
