"Thump, thump, thump."
The sound of the guzheng resounded throughout the hall.
This time, Yuan Yi was not playing one of the ten most famous pieces from his previous life.
It was adapted from the pipa piece "Ambush from Ten Sides"!
"Ambush from Ten Sides" is a famous ancient pipa piece. It tells the historical fact that in 202 BC, when the Chu and Han armies fought a decisive battle at Gaixia, the Han army set up an ambush formation from ten sides, thus defeating the Chu army and forcing Xiang Yu to commit suicide at the Wujiang River.
"Ambush from Ten Sides" is a magnificent and unique piece of music. The ingenious use of various unique techniques in the music fully demonstrates the high level of development of ancient Chinese music culture.
The entire piece consists of thirteen sections.
I. Setting up camp. This is the introduction to the entire piece, which unveils the prelude to war. The sounds of war drums, bugles, and cannons depict the scene of the ancient battlefield and the tense and solemn atmosphere.
II. Wind and Percussion Music. The atmosphere is solemn. Amidst the wind and percussion music, the marshal ascends his tent. This section of music is highly melodic.
III. Calling the Troops. The music grew increasingly intense, maintaining the tense atmosphere before the battle.
IV. Arrangement. The rhythm is even, the melody is simple, contrasting with the expansive wind and percussion instruments, starting slowly and gradually increasing in speed.
Fifth, marching in formation. This is a continuation of the formation process.
VI. Ambush.
VII. The Battle of Jiming Mountain.
8. The Battle of Jiulishan.
9. Xiang Yu was defeated.
10. He committed suicide at the Wujiang River.
11. The army triumphantly returned.
12. The generals competed for merit.
Thirteen, they returned to camp in victory.
The entire piece is structured around three climaxes: "Ambush," "Small Battle at Jiming Mountain," and "Great Battle at Jiuli Mountain."
After being adapted for the guzheng, this piece retained the grandeur of the original while incorporating the unique timbre and playing techniques of the guzheng, bringing listeners a completely new artistic experience.
After being adapted for the guzheng, the entire piece has a rapid melody from the very beginning, as if something is about to happen at any moment.
It directly causes unease and inevitably shakes one's mood.
As the music continued, the melody became increasingly rapid, making one's heart race and intensifying the unease within.
It felt as if every string was plucked in one's heart, making the already tense emotions even more uneasy.
The guzheng piece "Ambush from Ten Sides" became well-known because of a movie.
Combined with the plot of the film, one can feel the tension and fear on their faces when they were completely surrounded by the enemy.
As the melody slowed down, it was as if the enemy was deliberately toying with the surrounded enemy.
Knowing they were surrounded, they hesitated to attack, leaving those surrounded exhausted, both physically and mentally. Though weary, they longed for a moment to catch their breath and relax.
However, this relaxation was short-lived, as the enemy immediately applied pressure again.
It was as if the enemy knew they couldn't let those in the encirclement relax too much, almost like a twisted sense of humor.
At this moment, the melody of Yuan Yi's guzheng playing also became more rapid, the tune was also powerful and resonant, and every note was jumping rapidly.
The sound of the leaps grew louder and more intense, each leap sending shivers down people's spines.
The audience below the stage, members of various music associations, and viewers in the live broadcast room.
From the moment Yuan Yi started playing, they didn't dare to make a sound.
It was as if they were about to face being surrounded by the enemy the moment they uttered that breath.
Their minds were filled with little space to think about anything else; they could only follow the melody played by Yuan Yi to feel the pressure and tension on their nerves.
It was as if they were in a small, dark room, which was getting smaller and smaller, about to become a solid cage. They couldn't help but struggle desperately inside, but they couldn't break free.
At this moment, the tone abruptly stops at its highest and most rapid point—no, it doesn't stop completely; the tone still continues to emerge.
But is the tone so low that it seems inaudible? If you slowly savor it and carefully appreciate it, you can still feel its urgency.
It was like a tense conspiracy, the calm before the storm.
It was as if the enemy had finally run out of patience and was about to launch the final encirclement and annihilation.
Sure enough, the melody gradually grew louder and faster, with a thunderous and lightning-like momentum that made people feel an inexplicable killing intent gathering from all directions.
It made people even more tense and trembling, as if the enemy would suddenly rush out from the ever-shrinking encirclement and kill them at any moment.
This fueled their resistance and determination to fight back, but the murderous intent suddenly vanished at that moment, as the music had ended.
This is just their fantasy of being immersed in the melody.
The music had ended, but people were still immersed in it, their hearts pounding as if they were still surrounded by that murderous aura.
After the song ended, Yuan Yi had already stepped off the stage.
However, there was no response from below for a long time.
Yuan Yi looked up and saw that everyone had their eyes closed, with beads of sweat trickling down their foreheads.
"Smack."
"Slap, slap."
"Clap clap clap".
I don't know who started clapping first.
Thunderous applause erupted throughout the concert hall.
And this was accompanied by shouts of "Good!"
The team leaders and students from various music universities across China, standing on the other side of the stage, showed even greater excitement than before.
At this moment, Yuan Yi seemed like a walking, breathing fruit, as tempting as the flesh of Tang Sanzang!
The members of the music association were also trembling with excitement at this moment.
On the other hand, the Japanese side, apart from the team leader...
The rest of the students from various music conservatories, regardless of whether they were disciples of the masters.
