An unexpected surprise
As dawn broke, Jiang Yichun clung tightly to the warm embrace beside him, nuzzling his head against his chest a few times.
Their fingers were intertwined, their breaths mingling.
He Yinxin slowly opened his eyes and saw several hickeys on Jiang Yichun's neck.
His ears turned bright red, and he jumped up abruptly: "Xiaochun! Last night, we..."
He swallowed the words that were about to come out: "I checked, there shouldn't be any problem."
"It seems this brand's quality is pretty good."
Jiang Yichun opened her eyes and kicked He Yinxin in the calf again: "Robot dog! Do you think this is a product review?"
She pulled the blanket over herself, buried her head under it, and let out a soft hum.
He Yinxin's Adam's apple bobbed as she carefully tugged at the corner of the blanket, moving closer to Jiang Yichun, once again covering her with her entire body.
He whispered, close to the blanket, "Are you feeling unwell?"
"You stinky robot dog, what do you say!" Jiang Yichun rolled over in a daze and pulled away all the thin blanket covering him.
She was only covered by the blanket, staring wide-eyed at the refreshed man in front of her.
She gently rubbed her lower back while muttering curses incessantly.
"Ugh, it's so sour!"
"You kept doing this when I was about to fall asleep!"
He Yinxin gently leaned down, grabbed her wrist tightly with one hand, and lifted it up.
"So you're awake now, right?"
"Hey! You!" Jiang Yichun's face flushed red. "He Yinxin, what are you up to now?"
"We are providing after-sales service. Please lie down comfortably."
He hesitated to look directly at her, instead focusing his gaze on the floral curtains to the side.
"Speaking of which...it's clearly because you were so focused on being on top that your back started to ache."
"I said let me do it, let me do it, sigh, you're so stubborn, baby."
Jiang Yichun couldn't utter a word for a long time, and finally could only stammer out, "Well, isn't it because it's more comfortable that way?!"
He Yinxin chuckled softly, "I see."
"Then I will apologize to you."
The bed creaked again.
A soft touch came from Jiang Yichun's waist. He Yinxin simply held her wrist with one hand and massaged her waist with the other.
"Robot dog, so serious?"
Jiang Yichun snorted softly, squinting as he sized him up.
"Didn't you say your back hurt?"
He lowered his head, carefully pressing on her waist, and looked up to ask her, "Is this area sore?"
Jiang Yichun hummed softly, nodded, and enjoyed her boyfriend's morning massage.
"Old He," she called softly.
He Yinxin looked up at her, a slight smile playing on her lips, and pressed down harder with her hands: "I'm here. Now I'm relaxing your waist muscles."
"Give me a kiss." She brushed the stray hairs from his forehead, her tone teasing.
He Yinxin lowered his eyes, gently touched her chin, and leaned down to give her a light, fleeting kiss.
Jiang Yichun chuckled and continued to stroke his head, letting his hand linger on her waist.
Last night, the damp ground outside the window dried under the scorching sun, and several cicadas began to chirp and throb with joy this morning.
The air conditioner in the room had been turned on at some point and was making a constant whirring noise.
Jiang Yichun was once again enveloped in the fine sweat produced by the summer heat. She watched as the boy in front of her gradually blurred in her vision, and then she closed her eyes again in a daze.
His hands were gentle, which gradually relaxed her tense muscles.
In a daze, the two of them found themselves stuck together again.
"Xiaochun, dinner's ready. By the way, have you seen Xiaohe?" Her mother's voice came from outside the door.
"He usually gets up quite early, why haven't I seen him today?"
The two people stuck together in the room gasped. He Yinxin subconsciously grabbed a large white T-shirt from the bedside and put it on Jiang Yichun, while she casually picked up a pair of shorts and put them on herself.
"Oh, Auntie, I'm in Xiaochun's room. She went to bed a little late, so I woke her up."
He Yinxin picked up Jiang Yichun's clothes from the side and handed them to her, instinctively blocking her way.
His heart started pounding.
Hu Fei didn't open the door and go inside. She was silent for a moment, then chuckled softly, "Okay, is Xiaochun up now?"
Jiang Yichun quickly put on the rest of her clothes, and with her hair all messy, she opened the door: "Okay, get up!"
Hu Fei, wearing a T-shirt and with one hand in her jeans pocket, glanced at her daughter and smiled knowingly: "You and Xiao He seem to have a good relationship."
"Alright, Mom bought you some hot braised pork rice balls. Hurry up and finish washing up so you can eat them. They won't taste good if they get cold."
"Thank you, Mom. I'll wash up and come out to eat with Lao He."
Jiang Yichun nodded and quickly slammed the door shut.
She turned around and glared at He Yinxin, who was sitting on the bed.
The boy in front of me casually grabbed the glasses that were on his bedside table, put them on haphazardly, and then tidied up his messy hair.
His neck was covered in red marks, half of his T-shirt was stuck at his waist, and he had several scratches on his back.
Jiang Yichun's cheeks flushed; he realized he had indeed been a bit too rough last night...
Nails should also be trimmed shorter.
"He Yinxin!" She walked up to him and pulled down the T-shirt hanging around his waist. "Hurry up, brush your teeth and wash your face. Don't just stand there. After breakfast, I need you to show me my interview materials."
He stared at her blankly and said, "Oh, okay, got it."
Jiang Yichun kicked his calf again: "Don't be so formal, I'm not your mentor!"
He Yinxin laughed and put her arm around her waist: "No, no, no, Xiaochun, you are my love mentor."
Jiang Yichun casually grabbed his hand: "You're so glib. Come on, let's brush our teeth and get rid of the grease from your mouth."
After washing up, the two finally arrived at the dining table.
Hu Fei and Uncle Lin were sitting at the table talking about something, with two bowls of braised pork rice on the table, steaming hot.
Jiang Yichun was taken aback, then took He Yinxin's hand and walked to the dining table to sit down.
"Hello, Uncle Lin." She picked up the chopsticks from the table and handed them to He Yinxin.
Hello, Xiaochun.
Lin Cheng smiled at her, greeted the two young people, and then continued chatting with Hu Fei.
Hu Fei's face was beaming with a smile as she gently held Lin Cheng's hand, her weathered eyes overflowing with unspeakable emotions.
It's not the naivety and first stirrings of love of a young girl, but the calm and acceptance that comes after experiencing everything.
Lin Cheng looked into Hu Fei's eyes. He had a bit of stubble on his chin and a small tattoo on the back of his hand.
He always had a smile on his face, and he would nod and respond to his mother's every word.
Jiang Yichun thought back to her distant childhood, when her father always loved to hug her mother and say those boastful things, saying that his paintings sold for good prices and that when he became a big shot in the industry, he would bring her and her mother to enjoy a life of luxury together.
He talked about buying a big house for himself and his mother, and about his artistic ideals.
Back then, my mother always wanted to talk to him about her own things, but my father always brushed her off.
The man's mind was filled with nothing but his vision of the future.
He and his mother were just tiny specks in his future blueprint.
As a child, I didn't realize it; I just thought my father was amazing and ambitious.
Looking back now from an adult perspective, it seems that Dad did nothing, and Mom was never really seen by him either.
Perhaps their separation was inevitable.
Jiang Yichun sighed as he thought this, and continued to look at the two people sitting in front of him.
The two seemed to be talking about something interesting, and they burst into laughter.
The mother's eyes sparkled, and Lin Cheng took the opportunity to hold her hand.
He never seemed to use those affectionate words to address his mother; he seemed to simply listen quietly to her speak, occasionally adding a few of his own opinions.
As she grew up, she rarely saw her mother looking like that.
Perhaps, this is really a good thing.
Jiang Yichun had thought that he would have some prejudice against Uncle Lin because of those rumors, and that those rumors would resurface against his mother. However, when he saw the smile and radiance on his mother's face, those worries immediately disappeared.
Perhaps Mom no longer cares.
She will leave with Lin Cheng to pursue her dream, which she has shelved for nearly twenty years, in a big city.
Jiang Yichun swallowed hard, said nothing, but picked up the bowl of braised pork rice balls on the table and pushed it in front of himself.
The rice balls in the bowl were soaked in oily broth. She picked up her chopsticks and parted the glutinous rice to reveal fragrant braised pork and golden pork floss. The fried egg was crispy and the yolk was runny when poked.
The familiar aroma of meat, mingled with the fragrance of glutinous rice, wafted to her nose.
Jiang Yichun swallowed hard and began to eat.
As she chewed, her gaze unconsciously fell on the young man sitting next to her.
He Yinxin's hands, with their distinct knuckles, were holding chopsticks as she ate her rice ball, bite by bite.
He was no longer the machine that took half his life to eat when they first met; now he was like a hungry wolf.
That bowl of rice balls was emptied before hers.
Jiang Yichun patted him on the back with a smile: "Old He, eat slowly, don't choke."
He Yinxin's cheeks were flushed. He lowered his eyes and nodded, looking just like a big dog that had eaten and drunk its fill.
After breakfast, Jiang Yichun pulled He Yinxin into the study, where the two continued to study and chat on the computer, working hard to help Jiang Yichun get into A University through the pre-admission process.
Jiang Yichun casually sat in front of the computer, staring blankly at the desktop computer at home, his fingertips moving across the keyboard.
Perhaps because of the madness of the previous night, she was still having trouble getting out of that enchanting atmosphere, so she remained somewhat absent-minded.
Jiang Yichun's gaze wandered aimlessly before finally settling on He Yinxin beside her.
He was pushing up his glasses, his eyes fixed on the computer screen, his fingers flying across the keyboard.
Once He Yinxin gets into character, she takes everything she does terribly seriously.
More than just studying...
Jiang Yichun's ears burned, and he quickly snapped out of his daze, preparing to immerse himself in his studies.
At that moment, a small red dot popped up in her email.
Without thinking, she opened her email.
That was a message from the Graduate Admissions Office of University A:
[Dear Jiang, you achieved the top ranking on the waiting list in our school's summer recruitment camp. We now have openings for full-time students. Would you consider applying for a full-time position?]
Her mind went blank, and then she heard her own heart pounding.
This just means... I got the offer myself!
"What?"
Jiang Yichun cried out in surprise.
He Yinxin was debugging code online when he immediately turned to look at her: "What's wrong, Xiaochun?"
Jiang Yichun met his gaze, a smile playing on his lips: "The graduate admissions office of University A sent me an email."
"They asked me if I would accept the waiting list."
He Yinxin was stunned for a moment, then quickly stood up, ran to the computer, and saw the email sent from University A.
His eyes lit up, and he pulled Jiang Yichun into his arms.
"Xiaochun! I told you, our previous contract was useful! We really did achieve Pareto optimality!"
"You ended up getting into A University, and I've come to enjoy eating."
He kissed her cheek and buried his head in her arms.
"That's great, that's great, Xiaochun."
Jiang Yichun patted his hair and laughed, "But the contract expired a long time ago, how cheesy."
He gently nuzzled her shoulder: "Yeah, but now that it's been upgraded to a couple's contract, it's perfectly reasonable to be all lovey-dovey."
Thinking of He Yinxin missing out on A University due to funding issues, Jiang Yichun sighed softly and brushed his fingertips across He Yinxin's cheek: "Silly robot dog, why are you more excited than I am about my successful recommendation for graduate school?"
He Yinxin looked up and met her gaze: "Of course I'm happy, because our efforts have paid off, Xiaochun."
"As for why I didn't go to A University... I've long since let it go. Studying at Huaxing University is just fine."
"At least I'm free."
