"Go to my hometown" (End of Volume 2)
"Oh dear, is Spring leaving already?"
"Okay, I'm quitting. I'll finish my work today and then leave." Jiang Yichun was tidying up the documents on his desk.
She arranged them neatly one by one.
Jiang Yichun opened Excel and plopped down in front of the computer.
She was typing furiously on the keyboard with one hand and manipulating the mouse with the other.
The day after Anna mocked her, Jiang Yichun turned on her computer and started preparing for her postgraduate entrance exam while also studying computer shortcuts and how to use Excel.
She discovered that the keyboard shortcuts Anna had described in such glowing terms were nothing more than ordinary tools that she hadn't yet mastered.
As an adult with normal intelligence, Jiang Yichun quickly learned various keyboard shortcuts.
With a few clicks, she copied all the information into a new spreadsheet, creating a tightly packed report.
She turned around and called to the person next to her: "Sister Anna, I've prepared this month's financial statements. Please take a look."
Anna looked her up and down, then turned to look at the computer. A moment later, she raised her two light eyebrows and said, "Heh, you're quite efficient. Come on, get back to doing another job for me."
Anna couldn't find a single fault with her anymore; she could only assign her tasks on time, occasionally glancing at her or letting out a soft hum.
Jiang Yichun didn't say another word to her. He immediately ran to the printer, took a thick stack of documents, placed them on her desk, and then turned and left.
Jiang Yichun sighed and looked at his phone. The last message he had exchanged with He Yinxin was still a "goodnight" message.
Machine Dog: [Goodnight, baby. See you tomorrow.]
I'll wait for you downstairs at the office, and we'll have lunch together.
He Yinxin, that fool, said, "My grandfather passed away, I'm going home for the funeral," and then didn't initiate a single conversation with her for three or four days.
Every time I ask him how he's feeling, he replies "not bad" like a clock-in robot.
How can you feel okay when someone in your family has passed away?
Jiang Yichun stretched, turned off his phone, and placed the screen face down on the table.
Today, she submitted her resignation and is officially leaving this hateful company to go home and enjoy a comfortable summer vacation.
"By the way, Spring, I just overheard you talking to Wendy, did you resign today?"
"I……"
Anna peeked over and said, "Hey, Spring, shall we have a farewell dinner together?"
Jiang Yichun paused as she sorted through the documents. She forced a smile, looked up at Anna, and said, "No need, thank you, Sister Anna."
"I have an appointment."
She casually replied to the person she didn't want to reply to.
Anna choked up for a moment, then muttered under her breath, "Tch, I don't care."
Her eyes darted around for a moment, then lit up: "Little sister, you don't have plans with your boyfriend, do you?"
Jiang Yichun's hand holding the pen trembled, and the pen crashed onto the carpet with a "clatter," leaving a small black stain with ink.
She chuckled and said, "Guess what, Anna? Aren't you the one with the highest emotional intelligence in our group?"
"Guess what I am..."
"Hey Wendy, do you know how my husband and I met?"
Anna exhaled through her nostrils and immediately skipped over Jiang Yichun's words.
She talked at length about how much her husband doted on her and how wonderful their relationship was, while also taking a jab at the other single young women in the company.
Jiang Yichun recalled some CEO romance novels he had read before, where the innocent female protagonists would claim to be independent and self-reliant, but all the resources they could obtain depended on the male protagonist's appearance.
She looked at Anna's beaming face, but in her mind's eye was Anna being pinned against the wall by the domineering CEO, who was glaring at her and had his waist tucked in.
Jiang Yichun couldn't help but burst out laughing.
“Spring, what are you laughing at? What’s so funny?” Anna immediately turned around and pointed her finger at the tip of her nose.
Jiang Yichun suppressed his smile, a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth, and tilted his chin up: "Anna, you really like the novel 'The Domineering Husband's Fierce Pampering'."
She looked down at her phone; there was only one minute left before she had to leave work.
Anna's smile vanished instantly. She looked up, staring at Jiang Yichun in disbelief: "What are you saying, you country bumpkin?"
Jiang Yichun gave her a cold laugh, shook off the trash in his hand, grabbed his canvas bag with one hand, and kicked the chair back to the table with the other.
"Nothing, I'm going to throw out the trash. Anna, do you want to come with me?"
"Anyway, it's time to go home after get off work."
Jiang Yichun smiled and said, "Go keep your domineering CEO husband and your hacker genius son company."
"The female protagonist of the novel, the mother of The Matrix."
Anna stood frozen in place, her eyes wide open. She took her hand off the mouse, pointed at Jiang Yichun's nose, her lips trembling, but she couldn't utter a single word.
Jiang Yichun, with her ponytail swinging and carrying the trash, rushed towards the office door before she could react.
She completed the tasks—scanning her face, throwing away trash, and pressing the elevator button—all in one smooth motion.
The pent-up frustration from her internship over the past few days was finally released at this moment, gathering on the trash at her fingertips before she personally threw it into the trash can.
As the elevator descended floor by floor, Jiang Yichun let her ponytail down.
The heat that had gathered on his scalp dissipated instantly, releasing the resentment that had accumulated in the cramped office.
Cool!
Anyway, I won't see her again!
Take the opportunity to disgust her and leave her speechless!
The elevator doors opened, and Jiang Yichun strode out.
When she reached the entrance of the hall, He Yinxin was already standing by the door.
"Koharu."
He held a thermal lunchbox in his hand, his fingertips gripping his pocket, staring intently at her.
He had two dark circles under his eyes, and his eyes were bloodshot. His once meticulously styled hair had fallen down in front of his eyes, obscuring his clear almond-shaped eyes.
Jiang Yichun's fierce aura vanished instantly. She moved closer to him, her fingertips gently rubbing the back of his hand: "Hmm, Lao He, I'm off work."
"No, to be precise, he resigned."
He Yinxin pursed her lips and managed a smile: "It's fine. I heard before that you didn't really like this job."
"Happy resignation... baby."
When the word "baby" was uttered, Jiang Yichun still felt a chill run down her spine. Her eyes darted around as she took his hand.
"What do you mean 'heard'? I told you myself, okay?" She glared at him, then looked back at the insulated food container.
Without saying a word, she stepped forward, put her arm around his waist, and rested her head on his chest.
"Doggy, are you... unhappy lately?"
He Yinxin didn't speak, but just rubbed the hem of her clothes with her fingertips.
She tilted her head back, gently cupped his face in her hands, and touched the newly sprouted stubble on his chin with her fingertips.
The stubble prickled her palms, causing a slight itch and a hint of bitterness.
She brushed the bangs from his forehead: "Robot Dog, you've lost weight, and you've become... much uglier."
He Yinxin lowered his eyes to look at her, his eyelashes obscuring his pupils: "I'm fine, it's just that a family member passed away."
"Life and death are merely the transformation of a living organism into an inorganic one; it's a normal, natural process..."
Jiang Yichun covered his mouth, which was about to spew academic terms, and his round eyes trembled: "Stop talking nonsense. You're just unhappy, aren't you?"
He Yinxin didn't say anything, but reached out and hugged her back, pressing his whole body against hers, his nose greedily inhaling the fragrance of her scattered hair.
He became a robot that couldn't speak, and his mind seemed to have only one program: "hug".
"How about we eat first?"
She reached out and took the thermos he was holding loosely between his fingers.
He Yinxin nodded, slowly released her hand, and led her to the shopping mall downstairs from the company.
He finally spoke: "Baby, I made braised pork, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and braised eggplant today... Will you like it?"
Jiang Yichun turned her head and met his red and swollen almond eyes. Her heart had already melted into a puddle of water: "I like whatever you do, silly."
"You're already so tired, yet you still find time to cook for me. You might as well just buy a boxed lunch from the supermarket downstairs and fob me off."
The light in He Yinxin's eyes dimmed. He said nothing, sat down in front of Jiang Yichun, and opened his lunchbox.
Jiang Yichun's eyes lit up when she saw the glossy, fragrant boxed lunch. She picked up her chopsticks and immediately began to eat heartily.
She chewed on the juicy braised pork, praising He Yinxin's cooking skills while casually complaining about the unpleasant things that had happened at the company.
But her eyes remained fixed on his cheek.
He Yinxin kept her head down, swallowing large mouthfuls of rice without saying a word, only nodding silently.
After dinner, the two walked hand in hand towards the school.
Jiang Yichun walked beside He Yinxin, her hand held tightly in He Yinxin's palm, as if she were about to vanish into thin air at any moment.
As they walked into a dimly lit alley, Jiang Yichun stopped. Finally unable to hold back the words that had been pent up in her heart for so long, she turned around and looked at him, who was standing there blankly.
She stepped forward and patted his head: "He Yinxin, you clearly have something on your mind."
"If you're unhappy, just tell me. I'm, after all... your girlfriend. Although we're still in the early stages of our relationship."
As soon as she finished speaking, He Yinxin's face darkened, she took a step back, and shook off the hand she was holding.
Jiang Yichun staggered back a few steps, and the boy in front of her narrowed his eyes and strode forward to support her.
She glared at him: "He Yixin, what's wrong with you?"
He Yinxin trembled. He didn't speak, but stood under the streetlight with his head down, his lips tightly closed, and his eyes looked even darker in the dim light.
Jiang Yichun stepped forward and grasped his wrist: "You..."
Before Jiang Yichun could finish speaking, the silent boy in front of her grabbed her hand and pinned her against the wall.
He finally uttered the words: "Xiaochun, I'm breaking the contract."
"You'll remember this once you breach the contract."
"Punish me however you like, break up with me... that's fine too."
Before Jiang Yichun could react, he caught the back of her head.
His movements were gentle, and she was like a soft cushion on a pillow.
His warm breath drew closer and closer to her, and she could hear his soft panting in her ear.
I want to kiss you, regardless of your wishes.
Jiang Yichun said nothing, but closed his eyes, waiting for the long-awaited kiss that belonged to him.
A painful kiss that touched her soul.
His soft lips gently touched hers, a fleeting, fleeting touch.
"Hmm, it's over?" Jiang Yichun opened his eyes and looked at the boy in front of him.
He Yinxin's eyes were hazy. She took a deep breath, her lips trembling, and said, "No. Baby, I want to kiss you again..."
"Eh, um!"
Before Jiang Yichun could speak, He Yinxin kissed her lips again.
His kisses were like a dam breaking, gradually becoming aggressive, as if he wanted to devour Jiang Yichun whole.
His hands became restless, roaming over her back, his fingertips gently pinching the soft flesh of her waist.
Jiang Yichun shuddered. Her chin was itchy from the rubbing of his newly grown stubble. She didn't push him away, but instead put her hands on his back and gently patted him.
His lips were dry, but his kiss was incredibly forceful. Jiang Yichun's legs went weak involuntarily, and in the end, he could only lean his entire body weakly against him.
He, a traveler who had wandered the desert for a long time, seized that oasis and frantically drew water from it.
The deafening heartbeats around me made it impossible to tell whose chest they were coming from.
After an unknown amount of time, He Yinxin finally released the girl from his arms. His eyes were misty and filled with tears: "Xiaochun..."
Jiang Yichun gasped for breath, glaring at him: "You stupid, bad dog, what did you just post—"
"Xiaochun, I'm sorry. Break up with me. I have no shame."
He Yinxin lowered her head and placed her hands on her shoulders.
Perhaps it was that kiss that made his blood rush, and the words that had been suppressed in his heart finally poured out like a flood: "Xiaochun, my parents really don't want me anymore, and my grandfather is gone too."
"When my grandfather passed away, I was unable to attend his funeral because of those ridiculous rules."
"I don't know where to go."
Tears streamed down his face, and the glasses perched on his nose had long since tilted to the other side.
"Tell me, did I do something wrong? I shouldn't have gotten rid of them. If I hadn't gotten rid of them, would Grandpa have survived?"
"Will I also have a home? Will I have other things to care about?"
Jiang Yichun met his bloodshot eyes directly, rubbed his swollen lips, and adjusted his glasses with trembling fingertips.
"Fool, look carefully first. Do I look angry right now?"
"I never said I wanted to break up with you, so why did you suddenly decide to break up with me?"
"The penalty for breach of contract isn't just breaking up!"
"Even though you said so many self-deprecating things, didn't you eventually escape from their control?"
"Besides, your grandfather won't blame you. You've done so much for him, always going to see him. You've done a great job."
She gently cupped his cheeks in her hands and placed a kiss on the corner of his mouth: "I've always liked you too, you silly robot dog."
He Yinxin knew nothing; his eyes were only on her and Jiang Yichun.
The girl, who is usually tough on the outside but soft on the inside, said something that touched his heart deeply today.
Tears welled up uncontrollably from the corners of his eyes, and he pulled her tightly into his arms again.
"Xiaochun, baby..."
"You're so kind."
"Don't go, don't leave me..."
"Don't abandon me."
"I have no home anymore."
He Yixin's incoherent and nonsensical remarks left Jiang Yichun both amused and exasperated: "Why are you saying such discouraging things again? You deserve it! You're very brave!"
"Besides, I haven't said anything yet, so why are you so sure I don't want you anymore?"
Jiang Yichun cupped his face in her hands, tears streaming down her face, her fingertips twirling around his hair.
She stood on tiptoe and kept kissing the corner of his lips, the salty tears stimulating her taste buds.
Her eyes were glazed over, and she was panting: "He Yinxin, you do have a home."
"You still have me, you silly dog."
"Aren't we already a couple in the making?"
She hugged him tightly again, her heart pounding in her chest.
Jiang Yichun took a deep breath: "Come home with me."
"Go to my hometown."
