Let go
In the early morning, a gentle breeze stirred a corner of the curtains, bringing a touch of coolness. Sunlight streamed through the window, casting its glow onto the desks, while the camphor trees outside emitted a delicate, refreshing fragrance.
Song Huan stared blankly at the camphor tree.
Since Jiang Rou came back, Lin Xing has stopped coming to her for tutoring as often, and his test scores have been getting better and better. Every time, many girls ask him questions.
He seems to have little need for himself anymore.
"Ah Qiu".
The address was familiar, yet it felt strange. Song Huan snapped out of her reverie and asked Lin Xing, "What's wrong?"
"Tomorrow is my birthday, want to come over to my house?"
Song Huan stared at him for a few seconds and replied, "Mm."
After that, Lin Xing hurriedly gave a few instructions and left.
As Song Huan watched his retreating figure, she felt a pang of pain in her heart for some reason.
When she got home, Song Huan lay on her desk, thinking about what gift to prepare.
Last time Lin Xing gave her a star lantern, is he going to give her one this time too?
But she felt that the gift shouldn't be so casual; it should be given with some thought.
Song Huan glanced at the pile of letters in the corner.
She had a sudden inspiration: why not send a letter to Lin Xing?
True to her word, Song Huan took a piece of paper from the drawer, picked up a pen, and began to write.
——
Lin Xing's birthday is April 1st, a very special day.
After a hurried morning class, Song Huan took a taxi to Hangu District in the evening.
The Hangu area is no different from before, except that there are many lights and people in front of it.
When they arrived at Lin Xing's house, Xu Han was also there. She called out to Huanhuan.
Song Huan responded and began searching for Lin Xing.
Lin Xing was wearing a black suit, which made his fair skin stand out. He was smiling slightly as he greeted his friend.
"Brother Xing is about to receive gifts, everyone hurry up and take out the gifts you prepared and put them away!" shouted one of Lin Xing's friends.
Lin Xing laughed and scolded him before walking over.
Song Huan took out the letter, and when she saw the expensive gifts from others, she clutched the letter tightly in her hand.
Jiang Rou, who was standing in front of her, presented her with a computer, saying, "Happy 20th birthday, Lin Xing!"
Lin Xing accepted it with a smile, repeatedly saying thank you.
He walked up to Song Huan.
Song Huan handed him the letter in her hand.
Lin Xing hesitated for a moment, but still accepted it with a smile.
"Ha, sending Xing-ge a letter for his birthday, this woman is really something—"
"Shut up." Lin Xing turned her head away, her face darkening.
The man obediently shut his mouth.
When Song Huan heard what the man said, she actually felt that he was right.
Yes, who would send a letter on their birthday, especially a wealthy family like Lin Xing's?
Compared to Jiang Rou, who gave her a computer, she seemed rather poor.
Even if we don't compare her to Jiang Rou, the others gave her gifts from well-known brands, so she was probably the poorest one here.
Song Huan lowered her head awkwardly. Jiang Rou seemed to sense something and walked to Song Huan's side to comfort her:
"Don't worry about what others think. As long as the gift comes from the heart, that's what matters." Jiang Rou patted Song Huan on the back.
For some reason, Song Huan felt a little envious of Jiang Rou.
"Thank you," Song Huan said hoarsely.
"It's okay, go find your girlfriend, she's waiting for you." Jiang Rou pointed in a direction.
Upon closer inspection, Xu Han was waving at Song Huan.
"Um."
Song Huan ran over.
"Let's go, Huanhuan, let's go eat, the seats are almost full." Xu Han pulled Song Huan's hand and ran inside.
There were only Lin Xing's friends there, so there were only four tables, and Song Huan and the others were at table number one.
"I must say, Mr. Lin is really kind of him, arranging for us to sit at the first table," Xu Han whispered in her ear.
The dishes were plentiful and exquisite, and many of them were dishes that Song Huan had never eaten before.
Seeing Jiang Rou's generous demeanor, he felt increasingly envious.
Lin Xing comes from a wealthy family, and so does Jiang Rou; they should be a perfect match.
She was merely a lowly third party, or sometimes not even a third party at all.
After eating for almost an hour, it was finally time to eat the cake.
Lin Xing placed a three-tiered cake on the table, while Jiang Rou distributed plates. Everyone held up their phones, ready to capture the moment.
Song Huan stood to the side of Lin Xing with her phone in hand and secretly took a picture.
The boy in the photo smiles at the crowd, revealing his dimples. Under the light, his profile is softly outlined, and his black, tousled hair falls across his forehead, obscuring his eyes.
She immediately set the image to private, trying to cover up the secret.
Twenty candles were lit, the lights were turned off, and a birthday song was sung.
Song Huan secretly added a line to the song: "I love you".
She whispered those words into his ears.
After the song, it was time to cut the cake. Jiang Siye went up and spread some cream on Lin Xing's forehead.
Lin Xing smiled and wiped it back.
They handed out cakes one by one, and when it came to Song Huan, Lin Xing handed her a cake and a note.
Song Huan opened it and glanced at it. Inside was written: I'm very sorry about what just happened.
The handwriting is somewhat messy, as if it was just written.
Song Huan smiled, put the note away, and started eating the cake.
......
After everyone finished eating the cake, it was almost over.
"Ah Qiu, why aren't you going back?" After everyone had almost left, Lin Xing noticed that Song Huan was still there.
“I originally planned to go back with Xu Han, but Xu Han had some things to do in her hometown and changed her route, so I might take a taxi back,” Song Huan said.
Where are your parents?
"Still on a business trip."
After a long pause, Lin Xing said, "Let me drive you home. It's so late, it's not safe to take a taxi outside."
"You can drive?" Song Huan was somewhat surprised.
"Motorcycle."
Lin Xing took out two helmets.
After Song Huan put the car on, Lin Xing started the car.
"Come up."
After Song Huan went up, she grabbed the corner of Lin Xing's clothes.
Lin Xing chuckled: "Afraid of me?"
He took Song Huan's hand and placed it on his waist.
Song Huan's heart was pounding.
"I'm coming, hold on tight."
The car sped past trees, and the moon seemed to move across the sky. A cold wind whistled past her ears and into her body, but Song Huan's face remained flushed.
She thought about it many times in her heart, and finally shouted out those words: "Ah Xing, I like you!"
Even though she knew he didn't like her many times, she was still willing to try. Even though they weren't from the same world, she was willing to break free from those shackles and surge forward.
All she wanted to tell Lin Xing was that she liked him, really, really liked him.
She desperately wanted to hear a response, good or bad.
"What did you just say?" Lin Xing asked.
Song Huan's eyes gradually lowered, and her heart grew colder. She had already imagined many different endings in her mind, but she never expected it to end like this.
"No, it's nothing," Song Huan said, her voice trembling with suppressed tears.
She didn't hear what I said, but I had already shouted loud enough.
She was clearly willing to try and break free.
But what can you do if he still doesn't like you?
She no longer had the courage to utter those words.
