Let go
The Spring Festival has arrived as scheduled.
At night, several strings of firecrackers sounded outside the window, and red ribbons lay scattered on the ground. Beautiful fireworks exploded in the deep sky, covering the stars. Light snowflakes drifted down, landing on the lights of countless homes, creating a surprisingly warm atmosphere.
Song Huan lay wearily on the bed, resting her chin on her hand as she watched the fireworks.
Early that morning, Song's mother woke her up to visit relatives. She was dragged out the door while her eyes were still half-awake. Going from house to house to deliver blessings, she was very tired, but she received quite a few red envelopes.
During their visit, they naturally went to Aunt Jiang's house as well. That was the second time Song Huan had seen Shen Guai.
Shen Guai wore a dark down jacket and sweatpants, her eyes were full of indifference, and she always kept to herself.
Aunt Jiang said that she wasn't like this before; she used to love to laugh. She's been like this ever since a friend left.
Whenever that friend is mentioned, Shen Guai loses control of her emotions.
Song Huan felt some sympathy for her.
A message notification sounded on Song Huan's phone. She looked at it and saw that it was from Lin Xing.
Lin Xing: [Come to my house and set off fireworks.]
Song Huan replied: [Okay.]
She put on her shoes and said to her parents, "Dad, Mom, my friend invited me to come over. I'll be back in a bit."
Song's mother: "Be careful on the road."
Song Huan went downstairs and took a taxi to Lin Xing's home in Hangu District.
In the ancient district, rows of villas stood side by side, with lush camphor trees lining the road. Song Huan was shocked by what she saw, and a sudden feeling of inferiority welled up inside her.
Fireworks were set off in front of Lin Xing's villa, number 520. Lin Xing leaned against a street lamp, waiting for Song Huan.
"Ah Xing!" Lin Xing paused, looked up into the distance, and smiled at Song Huan after spotting her.
"Come quickly and help me put up the couplets." Lin Xing took Song Huan to her house to get the couplets.
As soon as she entered the room, Lin Xing said, "I'll go get it. You wait for me on the sofa."
Song Huan sat on the sofa, glanced around, and couldn't help but lower her head, her inferiority complex growing stronger.
Lin Xing quickly took out a couplet, completely unaware of Song Huan's strange behavior: "Let's go."
Song Huan nodded: "Mm."
Once outside, Song Huan took the couplet and read the words on it:
May you have a peaceful and safe festival every year, and a joyful and auspicious spring every year.
Horizontal scroll: May everything go smoothly
Song Huan smiled, grabbed a chair, stood on it, and began to stick the stickers.
Throughout the entire process, Lin Xing stood by the chair to protect Song Huan from falling.
"How is it?" Song Huan asked Lin Xing, glancing at the Spring Festival couplets she had put up.
Lin Xing always had a smile on her face: "It looks good."
That's just how he is; he'll always spoil her.
"By the way, why haven't I seen your parents in all this time?" Song Huan asked.
Lin Xing's face darkened, but after only a few seconds, he smiled as usual: "Let's go play with fireworks."
Seeing that Lin Xing didn't answer, Song Huan didn't say anything more and followed Lin Xing out.
Fireworks were displayed in front of the door, and Lin Xing picked out a few sparklers: "Want to play?"
Song Huan nodded.
Lin Xing lit the sparkler, and the sparkler exploded like a beautiful flower. He then handed the sparkler to Song Huan.
Song Huan waved her sparkler, illuminating a patch of darkness with sparks. Lin Xing truly felt that Song Huan was a savior.
His savior.
Lin Xing lit another kind of firework.
Fireworks exploded in the sky, their vibrant colors catching Song Huan's eye.
"Happy Chinese New Year, Ah Xing!" Song Huan said with a smile.
Lin Xing looked at Song Huan, her eyes sparkling again.
Happy Chinese New Year, Ah Qiu.
May all our wishes come true, and may we always be together.
