Chapter 20: The Local Monk

Since the sea cucumber spirit left, the economic resources of the people in Heqiu Town have suffered a huge blow.

The once prosperous sea cucumber business completely collapsed, and there were no more river sea cucumbers to sell.

The people in the town have changed their appearance, their pride has gone, and their proud gimmicks have been inexplicably lost.

People became depressed and lost their former pride and arrogance. They sighed and worried all day long, as if they had not yet recovered from the good days. The generous dividends at the end of each year were like a dream bubble, completely shattered.

The town, which once made a comfortable living by selling sea cucumbers and making money without doing anything, now has to work as hard as other towns.

Zhang Ling saw it all, but did not intervene. If he continued to let the sea cucumber spirit stay here, it would sooner or later encounter a disaster.

Not to mention whether you can make money or not, you might even lose your life by then.

Fortunately, the mortals in Heqiu Town have already made a fortune by selling sea cucumbers over the past few hundred years, and their family background is still strong. It is one of the most prosperous towns in the entire Linjiang County, and there is every opportunity for them to transform and do other things. After some time, when these mortals come to their senses, they will find a way out for themselves.

After all, Zhang Ling was kind-hearted. If it were another mountain god, he would have snatched the sea cucumber spirit back to the mountain and kept it in captivity the day it transformed.

Why bother going through so much trouble to be kind?

After all, a small immortal official will probably stay in one place for his whole life. If he doesn't use this kind of resources sent from heaven for himself, it would be simply stupid, a waste of resources and ruining his future.

——

A few years later.

Zhang Ling was sitting in the Tiger's residence meditating as usual, when suddenly an idea struck him. He counted on his fingers and thought: A guest is coming!

After a few breaths, he immediately stood up, and his real body came to the air outside the mountain, looking far ahead.

I saw several three-meter-tall golden-armored warriors standing in the clouds, floating from the horizon, shining brightly and radiating dazzling light, illuminating the entire mountain range.

"Zhang Ling, the mountain god of Jieyang Mountain, greets the Golden Armored Immortal!"

"Zhang Ling, you are the local mountain god. Have you ever noticed a sea cucumber spirit?"

Zhang Ling's heart skipped a beat when he heard this. Sure enough, what was supposed to happen would eventually happen. So he pondered for a moment and said, "I wonder what kind of sea cucumber spirit it is? Is there any particular color or shape?"

One of the golden-armored warriors said, "So you didn't know there was a sea cucumber spirit under your command?"

Before Zhang Ling could respond, the other party continued, "Now that the Yaochi Conference is in full swing, a high-ranking immortal predicted that a gifted and nutritious sea cucumber spirit would appear here. It would be an excellent ingredient for alchemy, so they sent us here to search for it."

When Zhang Ling heard that an immortal was calculating the secrets of heaven, he became confused.

The gods who are able to participate in the Yaochi Festival are all powerful figures in their respective areas. If they calculate the secrets of heaven, how could they be wrong?

You should know that he had released the sea cucumber spirit several years ago.

Seeing Zhang Ling standing there in a daze, lost in thought, the armored warrior stopped bothering him and said, "Well, since our search has yielded no results, we will return and report back. Sorry for bothering you!"

After saying this, these warriors in golden armor flew away on clouds.

Zhang Ling shook his head, unable to figure out the reason, and stopped thinking about this secret. He returned to the Tiger Monarch's residence to continue meditating and practicing hard.

There were no demons or monsters causing trouble in Jieyang Mountain. Zhang Ling had not killed any demons for a long time. The days passed faster and faster, but his cultivation level remained stagnant.

[Name: Zhang Ling]

[Lifespan: 1100/5000]

[Immortal Position: Eighth-Rank Mountain God]

[Realm: Celestial Immortal Realm]

[Magic powers: knowing time, recognizing land, opening walls, summoning people, walking on earth and escaping underground, marrying dreams, becoming invisible, carrying mountains, great strength, rock jumping, and spreading fog.]

[Longevity Blessings: Spiritual Field (1000 mu), Spiritual Pond (100 mu), Spiritual Mountain (10 mu)]

Unconsciously, he had been in this world for six hundred years, but he felt as if the day when he first killed the beautiful snake was just yesterday.

If you really become a god, time will pass by without you knowing what it is.

I finally understood why the god on duty said that it would be difficult for small immortal officials to make a name for themselves.

A few more years.

One day.

Zhang Ling suddenly sensed something and disappeared into the clouds, overlooking the foot of the mountain.

A team of hundreds of mortals was marching towards the top of the mountain.

Looking closely, there were seven or eight people in the middle team lifting an iron cage together, and there seemed to be a ferocious creature struggling and shouting inside.

Could it be a monster?

Zhang Ling raised his eyebrows. The shouting sounded like a wild cat tearing through the air, but when he listened carefully, it sounded like a monk chanting sutras.

Could it be that this monster just ate a big monk?

Otherwise, how could he utter scriptures?

But if it was a monster, how could it be caught by mortals and locked in a cage?

However, this monster is too weak and has no skills at all, so it is not worthy of the attention of the Dharma.

Zhang Ling thought it was interesting, and then returned to the Mountain Lord's residence. He closed his eyes and used his spiritual power to pay attention to the huge team that was winding from the foot of the mountain all the way to the mountainside.

About an hour later, the team reached the top of the mountain. The iron cage fell to the ground with a clang. There was a brief sound of clashing swords, followed by the sound of the iron cage shaking violently.

Hundreds of mortals knelt on the ground, muttering to themselves.

They all had a pious attitude, with their hands clasped together and their eyes slightly closed.

Zhang Ling heard it clearly and knew the whole story.

The general idea is that a strange monster appeared outside the mountain, called Tu Heshang - and is now locked in a cage.

This monster killed a person and was hunted by the Taoist priest. It fled to the edge of Yangshan Mountain with serious injuries, but it never expected to be caught by a group of mountain people who had just returned home to visit their relatives.

They originally wanted to kill and burn it immediately, but unexpectedly, this monster had a strange appearance and could chant scriptures and recite Buddhist scriptures. For a moment, everyone was shocked and confused, not knowing what to do.
