Chapter 5: Dragon Son and Dragon Father

"Where are you going, Bustling Monkey?"

“Wherever you go, it’s yours. Don’t ask about the road ahead or when you’ll return.”

Zhang Ling felt envious. It turned out that these spiritual creatures raised by nature were willful, unlike him who had to guard a small piece of land and beg for food.

"My name is Zhang Ling, and I am the mountain god of Jieyang Mountain in Linjiang County. If you have time, you can come visit me."

Finally, the two said goodbye, one went east and the other went west, hoping to meet again if fate allows.

——

That day.

Zhang Ling continued walking towards Jieyang Mountain. Passing by a dilapidated temple, he was suddenly caught in a downpour.

The rain came in a strange way, with a faint fishy smell, but it was not evil, instead it exuded a kind of spiritual charm.

He counted with his fingers, but couldn't figure out anything.

So I walked into the dilapidated temple, ready to wait and see where the rain would go.

Not long after, Zhang Ling saw a young man in white clothes holding an umbrella passing by the temple. He was about seventeen or eighteen years old, tall and handsome, with outstanding temperament.

"Sir, it's raining heavily outside, why don't you come in and take shelter?"

The young man glanced sideways at the temple entrance and saw a young man in gray clothes holding a fan and smiling. He then turned and walked into the temple.

Zhang Ling saw that the man's clothes were seamless, without any traces of moisture or dirt, and without any gaps. There was a piece of scale armor behind his neck, so he asked, "Where are you going, sir?"

The young man in white put away his umbrella and said, "My family found a marriage for me. I don't like it, but I dare not disobey my father. So I traveled from east to west under the pretext of visiting relatives, trying to avoid it and delay."

Zhang Ling lit a fire that illuminated the entire dilapidated temple. "It was my parents' order and the matchmaker's words. This is a bit difficult to deal with! If I don't marry, I will be unable to fulfill my filial duty. If I marry, it will go against my true feelings and my thoughts will be difficult to understand."

The young man agreed wholeheartedly, "Who says it's not true? I used to have a harmonious relationship with my family, but this unexpected marriage has made me feel very uncomfortable. Are they really going to force me to marry a woman I don't love to fulfill my filial duty?"

"My name is Zhang Ling. Please take a seat, sir. We might have a long conversation today."

"Very good. I have been traveling alone and have not spoken much. I wonder if I can meet someone I can talk to."

"Could it be that the woman was born ugly?"

"No, she is as pretty as a fairy, with a graceful figure, and many men want her but cannot get her."

"Could it be that you have something to hide?"

"Well...right?"

"Have you ever eaten sea cucumber? It's a great tonic!"

"You misunderstood. My secret is not this, but I have a good friend who might be able to tell me." At this point, the young man in white added, "Your Excellency has an extraordinary temperament and an immortal bearing. You must not be human!"

Seeing that the other party had revealed his identity, Zhang Ling did not hide it and clasped his fists and said, "I am Zhang Ling, and I am the mountain god of Jieyang Mountain in Linjiang County. If you have time, please come and visit me!"

"I am Ao Xin from the Dragon Palace of the East China Sea. Nice to meet you, fellow immortal!"

Zhang Ling was somewhat surprised by this answer.

After all, at first he just thought that this young man might be some kind of spiritual monster, but he didn't expect that he was actually the descendant of the Dragon King of the East China Sea.

No wonder he couldn't figure out any information by counting on his fingers.

After their identities were revealed, their thoughts became more connected and they had a great time chatting.

After getting to know each other better, Ao Xin revealed everything in his heart.

After a closer look, I realized that this dragon son was still in the form of a dragon and had not yet gone into the water to escape the tribulation. All his attention was focused on his carpentry skills in the human world.

He devoted himself to studying his craft day and night, forgetting to eat and sleep, and had long since lost all desire for women.

Seeing that he was not doing his job properly and had no future, and would never become a real dragon in this lifetime, the old Dragon King wanted to find a daughter-in-law as soon as possible and have some virtuous children.

Zhang Ling was silent, not expecting the misunderstanding.

"Does Immortal Zhang have any good ideas?"

In response to Ao Xin's consultation, Zhang Ling did not give any direct opinion.

This matter concerns the family affairs of the East China Sea Dragon Clan. As an outsider, he is prone to speaking out of turn and may anger the old Dragon King of the East China Sea.

But it’s not good to say nothing, otherwise it would seem too timid and lose one’s style.

Zhang Ling pondered for a moment and said, "I've heard that there are many extraordinary men in the world. They become adults at the age of fourteen, become strong and independent, and refuse to eat the rice jars of their parents at home. They travel alone to the ends of the earth, undeterred by wind, fire, rain, and thunder. They use themselves as seeds to seek the opportunity to leap from the carp to the dragon gate. Even if they die nine times, they still have no regrets. Although they are mortals, they should be on par with gods."

Boom!

As soon as he finished speaking, a dull thunder exploded in the sky.

Ao Xin sat there thoughtfully. After a while, he stood up, clasped his fists, and said to Zhang Ling, "Listening to your words is better than reading a thousand years of books. I will come again in the future!"

After saying that, he and Zhang Ling said goodbye to each other, left the ruined temple with an umbrella, turned around and headed east. Suddenly, clouds gathered and a huge dragon appeared in the sky, gradually moving away.

Although Ao Xin had left, the rain did not decrease but increased, even seven times heavier than before.

Zhang Ling's heart tightened, his mind moved slightly, and he suddenly had an idea. He immediately counted with his fingers, but still couldn't figure out anything.

He couldn't help but smile bitterly: After all, his strength was too weak, and any slightly stronger person was obscured by the secrets of heaven.

It seems that after taking up the post at Jieyang Mountain this time, I must work hard to improve my cultivation level and break through to the Heavenly Immortal Realm as soon as possible.

Zhang Ling waited quietly in the temple, feeling something in his heart.

At dawn the next day.

A middle-aged man walked into the temple with the gait of a dragon and a tiger, his hands behind his back. A closer look revealed that he was dressed in brocade and silk, and wearing purple and gold boots. He looked majestic without even being angry, like an emperor himself, displaying his noble air.

"Greetings, Immortal!"

"I have been waiting here for a long time."

Zhang Ling clasped his hands together, fanned himself, and bowed respectfully.

The person in front of him is none other than the master of the Dragon Palace in the East China Sea, the leader of the four seas—the Dragon King of the East China Sea!

"Last night you had a candlelit conversation with Ao Xin. This time he has seen the truth and has come to his senses. I am very relieved!"

"If one day he escapes the water and overcomes the tribulation, becoming a true dragon, you will be the first to be credited!"
