Chapter 127 Sold Out
Eslan and the others had a full meal, each holding a cup of milk tea, a sausage and a bag of egg waffles. They happily returned to the Mage Tower to submit recorded data, answer questions from the instructor, and successfully caught up on their sleep. When they got up from bed again, it was already afternoon.
——A magician’s life is so upside down.
Fortunately, the academic tasks that were given extra credits had been completed, and the next three days were happy free time. The three graduate students from the magic world got together and whispered, and decided to go to the central town for dinner and then go to a familiar club to play mahjong.
"Let's go get some fried chicken?" Eslan suggested. "I also want some milk tea... I feel like this new place is the best in this whole town. It would be even better if they had some hot soup!"
"It's the Lich's Snack Shop, after all," Henry said. "It sells snacks, so it's normal. But I think fried chicken and sausages go really well with Leaf cards. Brainstorming while eating delicious food... just thinking about it makes me feel so happy!"
But when they walked to the central town and saw the queue that stretched for three streets and almost blocked the traffic in the town, their sense of happiness disappeared instantly.
"How can there be so many people?" Eslan was shocked. "There weren't any of them this morning! We just took a nap!"
"Because the night owls all got up while we were sleeping..." Henry said sadly, "Is it too late to order takeout now? I have their raven cage number."
"It's too late." The person in front of them leisurely pointed at the ravens that filled an entire rooftop. "The takeout line is three hours away. The boss is very organized, taking one dine-in order and then one takeout order. I just hope they're not sold out by the time it's my turn."
"What a sin! Who on earth spread the word about my treasure shop?" Lani said inconsolably. "I only had the chance to eat it once!"
"I don't know about the others," said the older man in front of them, "but I was tempted here by your junior apprentice sister. This morning, she passed by our mage tower with a bunch of fried chicken and sausages, and it drove our senior sister crazy. She immediately transformed into her original form, jumped from the sixth floor, and bought up all the goods she brought—oh, I'm Drizzt from the mage tower next door, and our senior sister is a fox orc."
"Oh! It's Brother Drizzt!" Eslan suddenly realized, "Brother, you look much more haggard. I didn't recognize you!"
"My proposal was rejected by my advisor 37 times," Trist lamented. "I don't know how many sleepless nights I've pulled. If I keep doing this, I'm afraid my hair will fall out! It's all because of all those late nights that I'm slow to react. I couldn't snatch the fried chicken from Senior Sister, so she only gave me a small portion of fried green peppers and fried corn."
He had a dreamy expression on his face. "Those were the best fried bell peppers and fried corn I've ever had. You know, I never even liked vegetables before! If bell peppers were that good, I can't imagine how good fried chicken would be."
"It's really delicious," Lani also showed the same dreamy expression, "I just regret now that I didn't listen to my junior sister and buy a few more fried chicken this morning."
"What?!" Senior Brother Drizzt looked jealous. "You've already had fried chicken? Then why are you still queuing?"
"It's okay, we're in line behind you, brother. It won't affect you at all!" Henry said, "We just happened to run into them opening the shop on our way back from finishing our lab records this morning!"
Drizzt sighed heavily. "Morning? Forget it. There's no way I can get up early. If I get up any earlier, I'll die suddenly."
As they were talking, they saw Ellie carrying a sign and a small basket, saying something to the customers in line in front of her while making notes in her small notebook.
"Hey, isn't that Ellie? What does that sign say?" Trist stood on tiptoe, straining to see, his pupils then trembled: "[Sold Out]?!"
"No, no, there's still hope. Ellie hasn't stopped. She's still walking towards us." Lani said hopefully, "They shouldn't be sold out yet, right?"
Not long after, Ellie came up to them carrying a sign. She counted the number of people and stuck the [Sold Out] sign between Eslan and Rani. "Sorry, we only have enough stock for today. Anyone queuing up can go!"
The people behind them all wailed in unison, some still struggling unwillingly: "Is there nothing left? Milk tea? Fried chicken? Fried vegetables? Just let me lick the sauce!"
"No more. We've urgently restocked several times today. All the chickens and eggs in the chicken farms within a ten-mile radius have been eaten up. Even the flour and tea are gone," Ellie said expressionlessly. "As compensation, I have some chicken skeletons here. They're fifteen copper coins each. Those who haven't been in the queue can buy first. It's while supplies last. Anyone interested?"
"Yes!" Lani took out a silver coin and said, "I want six copies, and the rest of the money will be used as errand fee for you, Junior Sister!"
"Sorry, this is a queuing fee, so each person is limited to one." Ellie was not tempted at all. "Please prepare the change. No one will be served after the deadline."
Lani quickly counted out fifteen copper coins and stuffed them into her hand, successfully obtaining a portion of fried chicken legs. He immediately opened the oil paper package and stuffed a piece into his mouth.
When they came in the morning, the chicken bones had not been picked yet, so several people did not get to eat it. Now when Lani tasted it, she found that it tasted completely different.
The deep-fried bones are a rich brown, a color similar to the amber soy sauce. The meat is minimal, but the marinade is incredibly flavorful, and the deep-fried texture makes them easy to chew. The larger pieces are easy to nibble on, while the smaller pieces are easy to chew.
The wonderful sweet and salty taste gradually spreads in the mouth as you chew, making it more fragrant and more appetizing the more you chew.
Ellie walked forward for a long time with the basket, and only dispersed the crowd after selling more than fifty bags of fried chicken legs.
It took all her willpower to stop herself from laughing uncontrollably in front of her classmates. "Oh my god, their shop was an instant hit today! They'd used up all the raw materials in one day, and made dozens of gold coins! She'd never seen so much money in her life! Their family was going to be raking in commissions alone!"
Of course, the family was exhausted today, but if they kept doing this for a few months, they might be able to save enough money to hire the best doctor for her father and buy the best healing potion! That potion was said to be able to revive the dead and turn bones into flesh, and it could certainly help her father's mutilated and scabby legs grow healthy flesh again!
She had never seen the skeleton lich, but at this moment, the other party was the greatest god in her mind!
