Chapter 17: Research on the Diet of Spider Spirits (Part 1)

Alexi is a mother who is used to doing housework and works very efficiently. With her joining, Jiangyou and Nasha’s speed in making dinner has increased a lot.

The tender white fish and tofu soup was bubbling in the casserole, the fried tofu was slowly turning golden in the frying pan, and the fried potatoes and fish were sizzling in the oil.

Jiangyou is sprinkling chopped green onions on the egg, shrimp and tofu. The golden egg is wrapped in the soft tofu, and the shrimp is fried in oil to make it fragrant. The three bright colors of yellow, white and red are embellished with brown soy sauce and emerald green onions. Just touch it with a spoon and it will become soft and elastic like pudding. Just looking at it will make people's appetite open.

There were many people eating tonight, so Jiangyou steamed another pot of rice. Naxia cut up all the unsold meat and vegetable stews and arranged them neatly on a large platter.

Jiangyou glanced at Nasha, who had learned everything by herself, and burst into laughter.

"Dinner is ready!" Several chefs brought out plates and bowls of dishes and soups, and the tables and chairs in the restaurant had already been wiped clean by Andre and Jericho.

The two tables were joined to form a longer table, so everyone could sit together. Clean bowls, chopsticks, plates and spoons were placed in front of everyone's seat, so everyone could sit down and eat at any time.

Eight children sat obediently in their seats, quietly licking the malt lollipops in their hands.

"Oh my!" Alexi exclaimed, "Where's the candy?"

"I gave it to you." Aunt Wolf said with a smile, "I bought it from the Witch Forest. Don't worry, it's all very good malt sugar."

"It's expensive, isn't it?" Alexi felt in her dress pocket, trying to find some coins. "I'll pay for it!"

"Hey, I'm just giving candy to a kid. You don't have to pay." Aunt Wolf held her hand. "We're neighbors from now on. Don't worry about these little things. Come and have your meal."

Alexi was pressed by Aunt Wolf into the seat next to the children, and a look of apology and gratitude flashed across his face.

Each person was given a bowl of milky white fish soup and fragrant rice, with eggs, shrimps and tofu poured over the rice. Even the pickiest children were eating with their own spoons.

Alexi watched all this with tears in her eyes. She hadn't been so happy in a long time.

The pressure of survival brought by poverty and hunger, and the heavy burden of discipline, always made her feel suffocated. Sometimes she even wanted to end it all, give up, let the magic invade her body, turn into a mindless spider, and dive into the forest, never to emerge again. But now, she felt that her persistence had meaning.

The delicious flavors of the fish and tofu had been fully absorbed into the broth. Alexi took a sip from the bowl, and a warmth instantly spread from his stomach throughout his body. The nutrients seemed to seep into every tired and parched cell in his body.

The body greedily absorbed the power of the soup, the stomach rumbled and howled in desire for more delicious food.

Alexi, not very good with chopsticks, scooped up the rice with the egg and tofu with a spoon and took a delicious bite. The egg and tofu were incredibly tender, the part sticking to the bottom of the pot solidifying into a tiger-skin texture, and exuded a faint, roasted aroma. The brown sauce was sweet and salty, and mixed with the lightly cooked rice, creating a perfect taste.

The spider spirit had bad teeth and loved to suck on these soft, half-solidified, soupy foods. She slurped down a bowl of egg, tofu, and rice, then served herself another.

This time, she poured the thick fish soup into the white rice, and inhaled it violently, and only then did she feel a little relieved in her empty stomach.

Only after finishing her second bowl of rice did Alexi finally break free from the utterly starving state she'd been in, her mind preoccupied with food. She felt her eating habits must have been awful, and was about to apologize to everyone, but when she looked up, she realized everyone at the table was engrossed in their food, paying no attention to her.

Little Dragon Leodore was even fighting with Andre for the last piece of fried tofu on the plate, and in the end, each of them took half.

Alexi: "..." Wait! She seems to have missed that dish!

She looked at her children again and saw that each child was eating happily, some holding a piece of fried potato and fried fish in each hand, some holding the soup bowl and drinking the soup slurply. Aunt Wolf was carefully picking out the fish bones and dividing the tender white boneless fish meat into the children's bowls.

Alexi blushed faintly. She felt so incompetent. She was so engrossed in eating that she forgot to take care of the children, and now she has to trouble Aunt Wolf. But Aunt Wolf is so thoughtful! She is truly her benefactor!

Her children were born and hatched over the years. Eight children came from five batches of spider eggs, and their ages varied widely. The youngest, Xiao Ba, was scratching at the edge of the table, gazing at the Soul Fire in the Skeleton Manager's hand with a finger between his teeth. He asked in a baby voice, "Bone Manager, what's that shiny thing in your hand?"

"This is soul fire~" Jiang You handed a ball of soul fire to Xiao Ba, "This is the 'soul energy' of the dish, it's my food~"

Xiao Ba licked his lips and quickly swallowed the soul fire in one gulp: "Wow! This is delicious!"

Jiang You: “……?” No, she just swallowed up the soul fire so easily?

"Xiao Ba!" Alexi was shocked and stood up suddenly: "Are you feeling unwell?"

"No!" Xiao Ba licked his lips, as if savoring the taste of the soul fire. "Sister Bone, this soul fire is delicious. It warms my whole body after eating it. Can I have some more?"

Jiangyou looked up at Alexi: "Ah, can they eat soul fire?" Soul fire belongs to the soul energy of the netherworld, and it can also be regarded as a kind of magical energy. After eating this, will the little spider spirits lose control and turn into real little spiders?

Alexi picked up Xiao Ba and looked around, but she didn't see any signs of abnormality. She had never eaten soul fire before, so she looked at Jiang You hesitantly and said, "Manager, can you give me a little soul fire to try?"

"Sure!" Jiang You drew out a small ball of soul fire from the fish soup in front of him, "Would you like to try it too?"

Andrei, who was standing by, put down the cutlery in his hand and looked ready for action.

Alexi carefully scooped up the soul fire, took a deep breath, and then took a sip, as if resolving a certain resolve. However, she didn't feel the loss of control she'd been fighting. Instead, a long-awaited energy seemed to permeate her entire body, soothing her restless heart and bringing her into a state of calm.

"...It's okay," she said delicately, "I don't have the urge to transform...or rather, this soul fire has eliminated my urge to transform."
