Chapter 212: Grand Magician Mebucha's Speculations (Part 1)

Andrei immediately felt something was wrong, but the great magician Mebucha laughed and said, "Don't be so nervous. It's still quite difficult for a lich to create a body, especially for someone like Deresi who carries a blood curse and has two souls in one body."

He picked up a water bag from his horse's back and waved it in front of Andrei. "Normally, the body is like this water bag, and the soul is the liquid contained in it. The nature of the soul varies. For some, it's a cup of scented tea, for others, a pint of beer, and for others, a handful of clear water..."

"The body and soul are compatible, just like beer needs to be stored away from light and can't be stored in a clear glass bottle, otherwise it will produce a bad smell... An incompatible soul and body will harm each other. The soul will corrode the body, and the body will poison the soul. Although the damage caused by the body to the soul is mostly reversible due to the existence of the phylactery, it does not mean that the soul will not suffer when it is injured.

"Furthermore, the capacity of each person's soul is different. Life is a miracle, and the capacity of each creature's soul and body is perfectly matched, not a bit more, not a bit less. For example, if the dragon's soul entered my body, part of its soul would inevitably have nowhere to go. If my soul entered his body, I would also be unable to control part of his body because my soul's mass is insufficient."

He sighed. "I originally thought Mi Funa wanted Drexi to use Mi You's body, but as we were on the road, I thought about it and realized that Drexi wanted a body that would perfectly fit her. She needed Mi You to sacrifice her body and soul, and use magic to create a body for her from scratch."

"Wearing someone else's clothes is no match for having them custom-made for you. However, this magic itself is extremely demanding. It requires not only the body and soul of the sacrifice, but also a voluntary sacrifice. No wonder Mi Funa wanted to disrupt Mi You's mind, making her believe she was struggling to survive. But in the end, Mi You discovered the problem in time and fought back with all her might."

Magician Mebucha was silent for a moment, looking deeply at the road ahead. After a while, he spoke again: "Mi Funa spent nearly twenty years cultivating Mi You as a sacrifice. Naturally, her arrogance and ignorance played a role in this.

"She never realized that children are independent individuals, separate from their parents, and cannot grow up to be what their parents expect. Mi Funa wanted to cultivate an empty shell without self-awareness but skilled in magic. This was an impossible task."

"Do you think Dracy has another body?" Andre asked.

Mebucha shook his head. "If Dracy had another sacrifice or a tailor-made body ready for immediate use, she wouldn't have possessed Lady Eleanor van Chand. After being dragged into Hell by the twins' curse, the twin souls, when summoned back, merged into one, becoming entangled and difficult to separate.

"So, once they are anchored by the phylactery, they will need a body of enormous capacity, enough to hold two souls. And Elenor is just an ordinary baroness. Apart from her blonde hair and youthful beauty, she has no special qualities.

"From this point, I boldly speculate that Dresi's choice of Elenor as her body was probably forced. She overly trusted Mi Funa's plan, but was thwarted by Mi You's desperate struggle. In desperation, she chose to commit numerous murders at Rose Hill, incidentally, replacing herself with a young, beautiful body that would facilitate her social life. Choosing Elenor probably also reveals Dresi's preferences.

"She was deeply attached to her natural blonde hair and stunning appearance, intending to retain these traits even after becoming a lich. While liches can use skeletons or puppets as their bodies, Dresi clearly only cares about the living. This is perhaps her greatest obsession, and also her greatest weakness."

Andrei exhaled slowly. "So, as long as we capture Elenor and bring her to justice in time, she won't escape into another body and make a comeback."

"Well... we can't jump to such a conclusion. I can only say that if we set up defensive magic in advance to restrain her and prevent her from escaping, we will most likely be able to successfully control her." Mebucha said seriously, "You know, people will make completely different decisions when faced with life and death.

"If the goal is to escape, all those trivial matters like beauty, ugliness, cleanliness, and soul capacity are no longer important. The lich's method of possession is rather unorthodox. She simply attacks the soul of a living being from the Netherworld, completely devouring it, and then invades its body.

"For those without training and amulets specifically engraved with defensive magic circles against liches, lich attacks are difficult to defend against. As far as I know, a thousand years ago, a lich, besieged by the Kingdom's Knights and Royal Magicians, fled, changing bodies as it went, using innocent people as springboards to escape, and killing hundreds in succession. This event was once referred to in history as the 'Lich Plague.'"

Andrei took a deep breath.

"Therefore, we must proceed with caution in capturing Dresi. Everyone within a hundred-mile radius must evacuate or distribute amulets to protect against liches... Ideally, we can lure Dresi out of the capital, to a secluded, remote location, and capture her and her accomplices in one fell swoop."

Andre blinked: "...How do we lure her out?"

"Bait." A smile played on Mebucha's lips. "Speaking of which, I've been curious these past few days about why Dresi fell in love with my brother and gave birth to a son for him. Before I discovered that Dresi was the leader of the Evil Eye Moon, I always thought she was a love-minded princess imprisoned by the Delman royal family, but in reality, she is a pure, ruthless and ambitious person."

"Well, Dracy gave birth to not one son, but twins," Andre said. "One is Winston and the other is Valentine."

"Well, that makes sense." Mebucha nodded slightly. "You've also heard the superstitious legends circulating within the German royal family, right? They believe that twin souls are originally one, but once split in two, they are driven by instinct to devour each other and merge into one. The struggle between King Rupert and his twin brother Abreu was not only a struggle for royal power, but also a manifestation of this superstition. After the devastation, King Rupert and King Franz of Lorraine finally learned their lesson and cursed their own descendants."
