Chapter 227 Valentine's Confession (Part 2)

Chapter 227 Valentine's Confession (Part 2)

"So, the one who actually killed Baron and Baron Chand was actually Dracy, and you were just her accomplice?" His Majesty the King sneered and blew out another smoke ring.

"At this point, there's no point in me shirking responsibility. Besides, the lich should have eaten her soul by now, so she can tell whether everything I said is true or false," Valentine said with a sad face. "I was the one who killed Victor, I was the one who imprisoned the real Butterfly Lady Yadra, and I was also the one who later killed the historian and the magician...

"But it wasn't me who killed Mrs. Samantha. It was my mother who did it. She hated Mrs. Samantha for a long, long time."

"Well," His Majesty the King tapped his pipe. "Now that the Rose Hill incident has been explained, let's talk about the past. Count Saka de Mordo, why was he killed?"

"You were the one who sent Count Saka de Mordo to retrieve Winston, weren't you?" Valentine looked at His Majesty, a look of unspoken admiration in his eyes. "You asked him to adopt Winston, and he treated him like his own son. Perhaps because of your years of meticulous care, he noticed something strange about Winston and suspected he was one of the twins.

"Count Saka is a clever man, and he controls shadow detectives, with abundant resources at his disposal. He visited Rose Hill and knew about your past with Dresi. He began his investigation by investigating Dresi's connections and discovered that Countess Canberra and Dresi had a close relationship. He then traced the Countess Canberra to Earl Rosewood, and he became aware of my existence."

"If he only discovered another illegitimate child of mine, it wouldn't be a big deal worthy of killing..." His Majesty the King said in a deep voice, "Let me guess, Saka discovered other secrets... Was Deresi's initial resurrection a joint effort of the Countess of Canberra and the Earl of Rosewood?"

"Yes," Valentine admitted. "The Countess of Canberra was Queen Isabella's close friend and Mother's godmother. Although Mother and Queen Isabella didn't have a very good relationship, the Countess of Canberra doted on her. When Mother was imprisoned at Rose Hill, it was thanks to the Countess of Canberra's connections that she was able to build her own network."

Given the Countess of Canberra's close relationship with the German royal family, the change of dynasty was a huge blow to her. If D'Arcey could regain control of the world, she would be the Queen's godmother, not a countess who was gradually marginalized.

King Maybury said, "Both Cambella and Rosewood suffered a great loss after Dresi's death. Rosewood adopted you as his own son, but gained nothing from it. Dresi possessed the Great Magic Book, and Cambella must have found the secret of resurrection from it. He resurrected Dresi as a zombie, and then used Dresi's hidden wealth and resources to transform her into an even more powerful immortal lich."

Valentine went on, "Earl Rosewood discovered Earl Saka's activities. He didn't know how much Saka had discovered, but he couldn't let him continue his investigation. He told his mother about this, and she sent out Ghost-Faced Man No. 1. Those Ghost-Faced Man were orphans brought from the village at the foot of Rose Hill by old Baron Chand. They were entrusted to Earl Rosewood and trained to become powerful assassins.

"Number One is the most outstanding and brutal killer among them. His face and vocal cords were damaged in the fire that destroyed the village. His mother specially ordered an alchemical machine from the Rusman Federation to replace his voice. He is very loyal to his mother."

Valentine paused, then admitted reluctantly, "...on par with me."

His Majesty the King: “…” This kind of competitive spirit is really inexplicable.

"Number One assassinated many people for his mother, from Count Saka to Baron Neumann, who betrayed his mother and stole her money, to the magicians who invented various magical objects for the common people and promoted high-end magic to the lower classes. He was a skilled martial artist and also very good at hiding. Anyone he targeted was almost always killed."

All remaining doubts resolved, Maybury nodded, picked up his pipe and stood up.

"Wait!" Valentine said anxiously, "Don't go yet! I answered your question, now it's your turn to answer mine!"

His Majesty the King paused and said, "You say."

"Did you really ever love your mother?" asked Valentine.

"Perhaps when I lost my memory in the shipwreck," Maybury said, "she was as beautiful as an elf walking out of a dream. But I later discovered that all that beauty was a deliberate illusion created by a demon named Dresi. The evil deeds committed by the German royal family for generations ultimately created this mad demon. They do not understand love, but only know how to seize power and wealth.

"Dresi, having never felt love from her parents or brothers, can only feign love, but over time, the deception will eventually be exposed." He looked at Valentine's expression, which was desperate for an answer, and said, "No, I don't hate her. I only pity her. The distortion of the German royal family has ultimately led to such a tragic outcome, and I will spend my entire life preventing this country from returning to its former state."

"...What are you going to do with me?" Valentine asked softly, "Winston is your heir, and I am a criminal with blood on my hands. Do you want to kill me? But I am also cursed by the blood of the German royal family. If you kill me, the curse will be regarded as you clearing the obstacles for Winston..."

He laughed, a crazy and evil laugh, his voice getting louder and louder: "If one person kills the other, both will be dragged into hell! But this curse has never been limited to 'one's own hands'! Mi Funa poisoned and killed Frederick, but my mother was still dragged into hell by the prince's soul! If you kill me, I will drag Winston into hell too!

"By then, you will be left alone and without another heir! Hahahahahahahahaha! You can only imprison me and hope that I live as long as possible! One day, Winston and I will become one! He will become as crazy as me! You can only hand over this country to a guy who can go crazy at any time! Hahahahahaha!"

He laughed almost crazily. "Oh! Father! This is my curse on you! Your beloved son will forever live in my shadow, praying that I live long enough, fearing that I will die!"

"Oh," Maybury said, "Actually, I never thought of leaving this country to Winston. I have always had my eye on another heir."

Valentine's smile died abruptly.

"As for you, I'll hand you over to Mebcha. He's very interested in the twin curse of the Delman royal family. You know, apart from the Delman royal family, there has never been a case of twins having to kill the other out of morbidity. Perhaps he can find a way to sever the connection between your soul and Winston's?"

Maybury smiled at him gently and walked out of the cell, ignoring Valentine's shouts behind him and the sounds of shackles and chains colliding.

His Majesty the King walked straight out of the palace and into the woods, breathing in the fragrance of the grass and trees, until he saw a perfectly matched couple snuggling together under the shade of a tree.

The man looked similar to him, with hair as black as night and green eyes shaped like a green ghost. The woman had black hair and black pupils, and was petite. She wore a goose yellow dress and a large straw hat decorated with wild flowers, and her smile was as bright as a sunflower.

"With the two of them here, this country will only get better."
