Chapter 235 Case File 3: The Truth About Rose Villa (Part 1)
"This coffin is so heavy..." Four sturdy soldiers muttered to themselves as they carried a black coffin, trudging from the villa and pushing it through the wide-open rear door of the carriage. The heavy, luxurious coffin immediately took up most of the space in the carriage, leaving only the front row of seats free.
The carriage was a bit cramped, but it was the largest carriage the butler could find so far.
This coffin was also purchased urgently by the butler. It is a typical European style, divided into two doors, the upper half and the lower half. By opening the upper half, one can see the appearance of the deceased. It can be transported back directly to hold a funeral for Baron Chandler, and Mrs. Chandler does not have to worry about it anymore.
Mrs. Chandler thanked the butler. She didn't seem to care much about the poor condition of the carriage and just wanted to leave as soon as possible.
"Well, goodbye then." Under the bright sunshine, Eleanor Van Chand, wearing a black veil that covered most of her face and a black dress, knelt down from a distance to Andre and others.
"Goodbye, be careful on your way~" Jiang You waved his bone claws at her happily, "If you want to eat cream soup in the future, come to my workshop anytime~"
"Okay." Elenor raised the corner of her lips slightly. She got on the carriage and nodded to the others one last time: "Goodbye."
The doors were closed, the curtains were drawn, and the soldier drove the carriage, carrying the widow and her husband's coffin on the way home. Jiang You sniffed and suddenly tilted his skull.
"What's wrong?" Andre asked.
"Ah, nothing much. I just feel like she seems a little happy." Jiang You scratched the back of her head and looked up at the clear sky. "But after just going through such a terrible party, seeing such a clear blue sky and setting off on the way home... anyone would become happy, right?"
"Maybe." The black-haired knight was not happy at all when he thought about the huge mess he would have to deal with later. "Let's go. There is still a lot of work to do."
-------
The carriage went farther and farther away, and Rose Villa and the red roses all over the hills had long disappeared from sight. Elenor lifted her veil and took out an oil-paper bag from her bosom.
She hummed a nursery rhyme as she unwrapped the oil-paper package. Inside, she found a bunch of incomplete witch finger biscuits. Strangely, all of them were missing the fingernail part.
She didn't care about the flaws at all, picked one at random and put it in her mouth, crunching it happily.
The upper door of the coffin next to her was suddenly pushed open from the inside, and a blond figure pushed aside Baron Chandler's fat body and crawled out.
"Mother, they don't suspect anything, do they?" Valentine turned around in the narrow space of the carriage, panting and sitting down on the empty seat opposite Elenor, while shouting a title that was puzzling to outsiders.
"No." Elenor chuckled. "As I said, people always firmly believe in their own inferences. Your performance was extremely perfect. They all firmly believe that you, the 'illegitimate son of King Rudolf,' wanted to kill the 'son of Princess Dracy and King Huntington' out of jealousy, and that the unfortunate Baron Chandler, Victor, and Gentry were just collateral damage... Who would doubt Baron Chandler's poor widow? Who would know that the Baron and Victor were our real targets?"
Valentine nodded slightly, exhaled a breath of hot air, and unbuttoned the top button of his white shirt: "Are you used to this body?"
"Not bad," Elenor said with a wide, almost ferocious smile. "Young, beautiful, healthy, and with ten or twenty years of useful life left, she's truly our best option right now. If that kid Mi You hadn't betrayed us and changed the name in the magic circle, we wouldn't have missed out on that perfect body... It's a shame it was taken over by a wandering ghost from outside, turning it into such an imperfect skeleton."
"Oh, that stubborn kid! If only she hadn't resisted, I could have used her identity and occupied that workshop. I've learned all of Teacher Mi Funa's skills. The potions I brew are much purer than those of that silly kid Mi You."
She laughed, her eyes red and filled with madness. "Who could have imagined that Princess Deresi didn't die of natural causes, but transformed herself into a lich? Right, dear brother?"
She said to herself, and then sneered in a low, hoarse male voice: "Haha, vicious woman, not only can you plot against the souls of your own brothers, you even don't let go of your own son."
"Hahaha!" She laughed again in a female voice, "I'm actually helping Winston! Maybury never intends to acknowledge the remaining bloodline of the Delman family. He only wants to train him into a shadow... No, I won't let Maybury get his wish. This world should belong to me!"
Valentine lowered his head and watched her silently as she played two roles and talked to herself. He did not show any surprise at all, as if he was already used to it.
"And you, my dear son," Elenor—no, perhaps I should call her Dracy—called sweetly, "when the time is right, I will possess Winston's body and give his soul to you! The split souls will be united into one, and the curse of twins will be broken! You will no longer have to worry about dying young! No, you will have almost eternal life like me!"
"Yes, Mother," Valentine said respectfully. "This plan is perfect. It's a pity that we have to publicly give up the title and territory of the Rosewood family."
"It's not a big loss. We've already transferred the Rosewood property, and we've already prepared a successor. You see, ever since Baron Chandler spread the word that he wanted to sell his father's notebook to pay off his debts, I knew your title would be lost sooner or later. So, why not have us deliver it ourselves? After this careful operation, I can use my identity as Mrs. Chandler and the national debt you gave me to freely do what we want."
"If our chosen successor can fight his way out of Rosewood's family and claim the title from Maybury, then we won't suffer any loss and even resolve a major concern! We've already dealt with all those who knew about this back then. Now they only know the version we revealed through this game within the game.
"They would never imagine that I also gave birth to twins. Even less would they imagine that I only gave the stronger child to Count Mordor, who was sent by Maybury. And since you were frail and sickly, I sent you to the village at the foot of the mountain for your care."
