Chapter 25 Case File 1: Botanical Garden Mystery (7)
Andrei turned to the clerk beside him and asked, "Where are those Night Flower Magic Dishes now?"
The Winchester clerk pulled out a catalog of evidence and flipped through it. "Nightflowers...Nightflowers...Yes, they've been taken into custody by the First Battalion as evidence. They're in the warehouse next door."
"Take me to see it," Andre ordered. He pointed at Holly and hooked his finger at the Hafu boy, "You come with me too."
Led by Winchester's clerk, they quickly found the magical vessels containing the nightshade flowers in the evidence vault next door. Each magical vessel was intact, and each nightshade flower was preserved in the best condition.
——It can be seen that although the kingdom knights here are not very reliable, they can at least distinguish what is valuable.
"Indeed, every flower is in the best condition." Andrei has a sharp eye and can tell the quality of the flowers in those transparent magic dishes at a glance.
He said to the Winchester clerk, "Holly is not the murderer. He is telling the truth. Process his release papers and return all these Night Flower magic vessels to him."
Captain Piru and Deputy Captain Huipa, who had been rushing all the way here, were shocked to hear such tragic news as soon as they arrived at the evidence vault. They were horrified, and Piru subconsciously shouted, "No!"
"Why not?" Andre turned to look at them, his green eyes filled with condemnation. "There's clear evidence right before our eyes? And you're just arresting people like that?"
Captain Perru glanced blankly up at the Winchester Clerk, who nodded gravely at him and the gray scarf behind him. "This is Andre Lu Huntington, sent by the capital, our newly appointed Vice-Captain of the Knights."
As if they weren't desperate enough, the chief clerk added, "The team leader has just given him full responsibility for the botanical garden case. The deputy team leader is right. Since the suspect has been cleared of any crime, he can naturally be released without charge."
As expected, the two men looked dejected. They hadn't been able to stop Andrei, and they hadn't even been able to conceal the case. If Holly walked out of the prison unscathed, that woman, Pertmin, would definitely regret it! Not only would they have to return the money, but they would also lose face for the city lord in front of Andrei. The city lord would definitely dislike them... It was even hanging in the balance whether they could keep their jobs!
"I hope that next time you use healing potions, you'll think carefully about whether your lives are worthy of these precious potions." Andre said coldly, "Winchester clerk, please handle the paperwork. I'm taking the person away personally today."
“Yes! Yes!”
"I, can I go home?" Holly looked up blankly, with an expression of disbelief.
"I have to go back," Andre said, "First, conduct an on-site investigation and re-record the statement...
"As for whether you can stay there tonight...we'll talk about it later."
While the Winchester clerk was taking Holly to handle the paperwork, Andrei hooked his finger at Jericho who was following behind him and whispered, "Go and take Little Bone and Aunt Wolf to the Axe mansion."
Jericho looked surprised and asked in a low voice, "Jiang You? Take her with you?"
"I have a feeling," Andrei said thoughtfully, "the lich's innate abilities will come in handy."
Jericho was speechless for a moment. He had never heard of anyone using a lich to solve a case, but he knew his young master's temper very well. He immediately replied, "I understand."
-------
As an official organization that protects the security of the Principality of Huntington, eliminates internal and external troubles, and serves the king and the people, the Knights of the Kingdom are both officers and soldiers, constables, and firefighters. They are an all-in-one universal brick that can be moved wherever needed.
They are responsible for patrolling, standing guard, fighting fires and disaster relief, catching petty thieves, robbers and kidnappers, and even rescuing people's cats that have climbed up trees and can't get down; they are also responsible for dealing with foreign invasions and rebellions by political enemies, and they always raise the banner for the king.
An organization where capable people work hard will naturally not have just a bunch of reckless men who want to kill.
The Kingdom's Knights were responsible for field work and military duties, while the Clerks were responsible for logistics and all civilian affairs. These two lines of work ran parallel, complementing and checking each other.
On the branch side, the lowest-ranking Kingdom Knights were divided into squads, each answering to their captain and vice-captain, who in turn answered to the captain and vice-captain. When the main officer was unable to perform their duties, was too busy, or simply didn't want to do it, a deputy would be appointed to take over.
Among them, the captain is the highest authority of the branch, and he directly takes orders from the local governor and the person in charge of the knights of the higher-level kingdom... Of course, he also has to take orders from His Majesty the King.
The number of clerks is not as large as that of knights. Each knight team is only equipped with 1-2 clerks, who are responsible for organizing various case files, handling various tedious written procedures, signing for evidence, keeping records of prisoners, and purchasing various financial items for income and expenditure. It can be said that they are both clerks and financial accountants in one.
All clerks in the branch are supervised by the chief clerk, who is theoretically at the same level as the branch leader, taking orders from His Majesty the King, the local governor, and the chief clerk of the higher-level kingdom's knights, and has supervisory power over the kingdom's knights... But in the final analysis, this is only a theoretical statement.
The Duchy of Huntington values military power over literature. The knights of the kingdom are given the middle name of "Fa" to indicate that they are a special class that is superior to others, while the clerks are all commoners.
As a result, the actual status of the chief clerk, Mickfield H. Winchester, is not as good as that of a deputy captain without a title, let alone Andre who holds the title of viscount.
Although the Winchester clerk seemed polite to Andre, in Holly's eyes he was a very serious and terrifying person.
The young Haff followed cautiously and tremblingly behind the Winchester Clerk, secretly sizing up the clerk with brown-gold hair who meticulously wore the white uniform with gold edges of the Knights' clerk's uniform, fearing that he might anger the clerk at the last moment.
"Come, this is it." The Winchester clerk stopped in the corridor, opened the door of an office, took a few forms from the desk of the clerk closest to the door, quickly filled out a few lines, and stuffed them into his arms. "Sit over there, fill out these, and after you put your fingerprints, you can go back with Lord Andre."
Holly held the forms and looked at the middle-aged clerk's expression with trepidation.
The Winchester clerk was a gentle, elegant middle-aged man, evidently well-educated. He wore a gentle smile, and the crow's feet at the corners of his eyes wrinkled slightly, but his eyes were obscured by the reflective lenses of his glasses, so Holly couldn't see his expression.
But this is not important. Holly glanced at the form in his hand and found that it was indeed the confirmation document for the release of the suspect and the collection form for the evidence [Dark Night Flower Magic Dish].
He breathed a sigh of relief and thanked them profusely, "Thank you! Thank you! The Axe family will thank you all!"
The smile on Winchester's clerk's face remained unchanged. He said gently, "Write quickly. Lord Andrei is waiting impatiently."
