Chapter 28 Heatstroke Prevention and Cooling Benefits
The trainee knights on the ground twisted and rolled around, groaning in pain. Some still whispered in disbelief, "What little girl could knock down a bunch of trainee knights like us? She's not the boss..."
"Heh." Andre sneered, not mentioning at all that he was also the one who was knocked down that year.
After several rounds of training, his prestige was almost fully established. On the field, only Andrei could still stand. The other knights, bruised and swollen, thirsty, and exhausted, collapsed on the ground, unable to get up, complaining bitterly. Andrei frowned slightly: These people are too weak. Could it be that Baron Neumann intended for him to lead this bunch of noobs to suppress the bandits and end up in a crushing defeat?
Just as he was thinking, he saw a soldier running over hurriedly: "Deputy Captain! Someone's looking for you outside!"
"who?"
"A skeleton is leading a young man in a mule cart. They say they're bringing the coolant you ordered," the soldier said. "Do you want to let them in?"
Andrei thought: "Put it in, it's my order."
The soldier ran off again with a grunt. Not long after, Andre saw Jericho driving a mule cart following the soldier who led the way. The mule cart was loaded with several large iron buckets and a pile of bamboo cups.
Jiang You was wearing a big straw hat and sitting behind the mule cart, his long white leg bones hanging and swaying on the edge of the cart frame.
The group of weaklings on the ground secretly raised their heads and looked curiously in the direction of the mule cart - what had they just heard? What kind of summer drink did the deputy captain order?
"Andre~" Takumi waved at the knight, "Here's the winter melon tea you ordered as a reward for the soldiers! And there's also iced jelly!"
The corners of Andre's mouth twitched silently, but when he glanced at the group of weaklings lying on the ground, he felt that Xiaogutou's arrival was just right - he used both kindness and power. He had already established his power, and it was time to show kindness.
So Andrei waved his hand and said, "Why are you still lying on the ground? Get up and drink some winter melon tea."
The bruised trainee knights leaped to their feet with a roar, their eyes gleaming with longing. After a tough military training, who wouldn't love a refreshing drink? Even though they had never heard of winter melon tea, they were completely unheard of.
The mule cart stopped in front of them. Sitting on the edge of the cart, a skeleton wearing a large straw hat exuded an icy chill all over her body—not the terrifying kind of 'cold' that was scary and terrifying, but rather her straw hat was cast with some kind of cooling magic, and small snowflakes were floating on it.
She grabbed a few bamboo poles from the cart, lifted a thick canvas, and quickly erected a sunshade. The training grounds were suddenly shaded, and the knights, who had been basking in the sun for most of the day, automatically sought out a cool spot, sighing with relief.
Andrei glanced at her hat curiously, recognizing a familiar aura of magic: "Dragon magic?"
"It's a gift from Leodo," Takumi said with a smile. "He imbued this straw hat with the icy aura of an ice dragon. He says the cooling effect will last all summer! If it runs out early, I can always ask him for more."
As she chatted, she jumped down from the bicycle frame, reached out and opened the lid of a large iron bucket, revealing an amber liquid filled with a cool and sweet fragrance.
She then lifted the gauze covering a nearby iron basin. Andrei took a peek and saw a crystal-clear, transparent, jelly-like substance in the basin, probably some delicious food that Little Bone had just made.
"Please line up."
Jiang You, holding a large iron ladle in one hand and a bamboo cup in the other, began to pour the drink. She first scooped a spoonful of the gelatinous substance from the iron basin, then scooped a few ice cubes from the iron bucket into the bamboo cup. Finally, she poured in amber tea and stuck a thin bamboo straw inside. "Okay, who's first?"
The knights looked up at Andrei, who then nodded to the young knight at the front of the team. The young knight then took the drink from Jiangyou with joy and anxiety, as if he had been pardoned.
"There is jelly at the bottom. Stir it before drinking and sip it slowly. Be careful not to choke." Jiangyou instructed.
The thin bamboo used as straws is a unique plant recently discovered by beavers. This non-toxic bamboo is a delicacy enjoyed by many vegetarians, and when fully grown, it's only about the thickness of a human index finger. The bamboo tubes are thin yet strong and waterproof, with joints inside. With a simple poke and scrape of a metal pick, they can be transformed into straight straws. These are the perfect size for drinking bubble tea or jelly jelly. They're sturdier and easier to use than reed or wheat straws, and they also have a delicate bamboo fragrance.
This refreshing bamboo fragrance may not necessarily go well with other alcoholic beverages, but Jiangyou feels that it goes surprisingly well with winter melon tea and jelly jelly.
The knight carefully stirred the drink with a bamboo straw, took a gentle sip, and then a sublime coolness seemed to emanate from his entire body. "Ahhh, so cool and sweet, this tastes so good!"
The people in the queue behind him instantly became agitated, but then suppressed their eagerness under Andre's glare. Jiang You couldn't help but chuckle at their anxious yet fearful expressions.
The scene was too weird, but the drink was really attractive, especially for the apprentice knights who had been beaten under the scorching sun for most of the day. It was like travelers in the desert finally finding an oasis. Even if they were told that the water was poisonous, they would still drink it first.
Fortunately, the skeleton dispensed the drinks quickly and evenly, with each cup containing the exact same amount of jelly, ice, and winter melon tea. Soon, the young rickshaw driver also lifted the lid of another bucket and began dispensing drinks. The queue instantly split into two, and progress was much faster.
Andre waved to the first young knight who had tried it. The young knight walked over tremblingly: "Deputy, deputy captain?"
"Go inside and ask the clerk and others to come and have tea," said Andre.
The little knight cried out "Ah" and ran away with the teacup in his hand. Not long after, all the clerks working in the Knights Templar rushed out and joined the queue.
The Winchester clerk, who had a weak leg, limped out on crutches and stood beside Andre. Andre gestured to the queue and said, "Hey, this is the summer heatstroke relief benefit. Do you think I should reimburse you?"
"Since this is a benefit enjoyed by the entire branch of the Knights, it can naturally be paid through the public account." The Winchester Clerk nodded in approval. "This summer is exceptionally hot, and everyone really needs some benefits."
The two smiled at each other and reached a consensus very smoothly.
