Chapter 33 The Truth About the Axe Family (Part 1)
With Whipson's collapse, the truth of the case finally came to light.
The marriage between Whipson and Pertmin can actually be considered a marriage between two magic plant merchant families.
The Priss family could not match the Axes in terms of industrial scale or breeding technology. Before the marriage, their family had almost been squeezed out of the market by the Axes family, and their business was on the verge of bankruptcy.
It was not until Pertmin married Whipson and gradually took control of the Akers' resources that the Priss family reversed its downward trend.
It has to be said that the most sober person in the Axe family is old Hurd. After losing his eldest son, he looked at his incompetent second son and the whole family, and resolutely handed over the power of the entire family to his calm and capable second daughter-in-law.
Obviously, in his eyes, losing power temporarily is much more worthwhile than the collapse of the entire business empire.
As for whether the next generation of descendants can regain power, it depends on their own abilities.
In the eyes of old Hurd, this was not a very slim thing. The grandson left by his eldest son was very talented; at worst, as long as his second son had children, he would not have to worry about Pertmin not returning the resources to his grandchildren.
In reality, this marriage was a good decision. The Akers family gained a capable leader, and the Priest family was revitalized with the resources injected by his daughter. Whipson got a beautiful wife, and the Akers family's assets multiplied several times over in a few years.
However, human beings are always unsatisfied.
After the death of old Hurd, Whipson, who always did nothing, was no longer satisfied with his idle life and could get paid for nothing. Like most middle-aged men, he began to pursue self-worth, that is, spending money on wine and women, buying attention and vanity with money from dancers and showgirls, and causing trouble for his wife.
He knew that he was incompetent, but he was unwilling to accept his own incompetence and his wife's strength. His inferiority and dissatisfaction with himself turned into a raging fire of jealousy and anger towards his wife.
If Pertmin still had some affection for Whipson before, it had long been worn away after she had cleaned up Whipson's messes so many times.
Of course, Whipson wasn't the only one who was unsatisfied, yearning for more emotional fulfilment and a sense of fulfillment. Pertmin and the Price family also began to grow greedy. Having lost hope in her husband, Pertmin focused entirely on making money, intent on excluding the rising star Holly from the family business and thus firmly controlling the Axe family fortune.
——Firing Aunt Wolf was the first step for Pertmin to cut off the support around Holly.
The Priss family also made their own decision and sent Perlamin to assist Pertmin. One daughter can bring a family back to life, and two daughters can make it soar to the sky, right?
However, Peramin also had his own plans.
She lacked her sister's business acumen and beauty, but she was as ambitious as her sister. How could such a person be content to be a nanny and servant in her sister's husband's house, taking care of her brother-in-law's younger brother?
A resentful man trying to find a sense of existence in a woman, and a woman pretending to be gentle and flattering in order to gain more benefits for herself, like a match made in heaven, they hit it off immediately. Whipson was fascinated by Peramin's gentleness and affection, and even more so by the way she looked at him as a hero - this was completely different from Peramin, who would only look at him with contempt and indifference, as if he were just a stain on her skirt.
He gave Peramin a lot of money and jewelry, satisfying Peramin's vanity. The two often found ways to meet in the mansion, in the botanical garden, and in the city, hiding from people's sight... The day of the double new moon was also an excellent time for them to meet, as it was pitch black everywhere and would not attract anyone's attention.
The two of them were a poor couple, but they knew who had earned their money. They didn't dare let Perlamin know about their affair, so they tried every possible way to hide it from her. This included, of course, having Perlamin add some sleeping potion to Perlamin's sweet soup on the night of their date.
"What Peramin doesn't know," Peramin said to the crowd, "is that as the daughter of the Priss family, I'm not just good at business. I can smell the scent of medicinal plants and magical plants from a long distance away."
The drugged sweet soup aroused Pertmin's suspicion. After a little investigation, she discovered the scandalous deeds done by her husband and sister.
"But I didn't stop them." Perlamin sighed, looking at the tearful Whipson with pity. "He spent his money on Perlamin, so he didn't have to go out and have a good time. I just turned a blind eye and pretended I didn't know."
However, during this double new moon, all the contradictions seemed to converge. Holly's sixteenth birthday was approaching, and once he came of age, Pertmin would return the botanical garden to him. Soon, Holly would receive his scholar certification, becoming a member of the "Wen" class.
This is certainly a good thing for the Axe family, but it is not good news for the Pertmin and Pris families.
Pertmin was already upset, and Holland was still bringing up the matter, clamoring to help harvest the nightshade flowers, which naturally got him scolded by her.
Peramin was usually only concerned with pleasing Whipson and had never bothered to educate Holland. She had raised the child into a spoiled bully. If she was not satisfied, she would throw a tantrum and howl so loudly that the whole house could hear it. She was immediately covered in cream of mushroom soup, and her whole body was soaked with the smell.
——The smell of 'cream of mushroom soup' that Jiangyou smelled from Holland's blood dripping into the soil was the last deep-rooted 'memory' of the child.
Because of this incident, Peramine did not take good care of Holland in the afternoon as she said. She did not pay any attention to the running child, nor did she make dinner for him or change his clothes... She had no idea where he had run off to.
She wanted to punish this lawless little bully and make him experience the consequences of opposing her. This little bit of power brought her immense satisfaction.
She naturally didn't know that Holland had gone to the botanical garden, played there for the entire afternoon, ate a bunch of fruits and vegetables without restraint, and then happily took a nap in the woods.
"How did you find out?" Jiang You recalled Andre's question at that time, and the "Mapo Tofu"-like emotional smell of Peramin.
"The bloodstains on Holland's clothes were so few that they weren't caused at the time of death. He changed into those clothes after he died," Andre said. "And his autopsy report, didn't you read it when you sneaked out?"
