Chapter 45 CASEFILE·4: Night Bandits (12)

Chapter 45 CASEFILE·4: Night Bandits (12)

The knife, flashing with a cold light, was eventually retracted. The leader pondered for a moment, perhaps not wanting to waste any more time on a small fry like her. "You guys, take her and go find her. If she dares to do anything, and you don't find what she is, kill her."

Kirsina shuddered violently.

"Yes, Boss!"

The leader stood up, and something seemed to be shining on his body. Qiersina didn't understand what it was. She just saw him wave to his men and hurried out of the house.

Qiersna couldn't see the leader's movements, but the shadow scout outside, who had cast an invisibility spell on her, could see clearly through the window. The leader pulled a gleaming crystal from his pocket, activated a magic circle engraved on it, and respectfully addressed the crystal, "Master."

"How's it going?" A female voice came from the crystal.

"We've already obtained one-third of the account book," the black-clad leader replied. "For the remaining part, we're planning to force the jeweler's daughter to lead us."

"Well," the female voice said, "There's no need to keep the Baron. He has clearly responded to our warnings with his actions. Traitors should be eliminated."

The black-clad leader repeated woodenly in a voice as hoarse as that of a demon from hell: "Traitors should be wiped out."

The two of them easily decided the life and death of a local lord.

The shadow spy outside the window was so frightened that his hair stood on end. He didn't dare to breathe and hid himself even more secretly.

The leader put away the crystal, gave a few more instructions to his men, and left with half of them. Judging from the direction their carriage was heading, it seemed they were heading north of the city.

Shadow Detective hurriedly sent a message to the clerk using the contact book, and then received the news that reinforcements had arrived, which made him feel relieved.

The remaining black-robed men in the house untied Qiersina, leaving only the hemp ropes bound around her wrists. They pushed her out of the house and toward the carriage, "Go in, lead the way carefully, and don't try any tricks!"

She was roughly stuffed into the carriage and fell to the ground with a thud. It took her a long time to stand up again like a fish out of water.

The carriage did not move, and there was an eerie silence outside. Qiersina smelled a sweet and fishy scent. She remembered this smell. She also smelled this strong smell of blood when the convoy had an accident last night.

She plopped back down on the ground and huddled in the corner of the carriage, shivering.

Something must have happened outside... Are those black-robed bandits still there? Why isn't the carriage moving? Or has someone come to rescue her?

There was finally movement outside the carriage, and the door was opened with a swish. Standing at the door were not the gangsters just now, but another group of men in black.

"Miss Qiersina." The other party's tone was gentle. "We are here to rescue you. You are safe for the time being."

"For now?" Qiersina sensitively caught a strange word in the other party's words, and she couldn't help but tremble again.

"Yes," the man in black smiled. "Baron Neumann is already in danger, and you are now deeply trapped in the game. If you want to escape, you will need our protection, but we need to see your sincerity."

"Sincerity..." Qiersina asked anxiously, "What do you want? Money? Jewelry?"

"Neither," the man in black said, "We also want to know the whereabouts of the goods you transported for Baron Neumann."

Qiersina felt a surge of despair. She cried, "Are you going to kill me too?"

"Oh, no, you misunderstood." The man in black said politely, even stepping forward to untie the hemp rope around her wrists. "You can leave here on your own now, go home, or go anywhere else. We won't stop you, but we won't provide you with any protection either.

"We are the king's men. We've already dealt with all the remaining bandits here, but as for that leader and the people he took away..." The other man flashed his identity token at her and deliberately lengthened his voice. "Until you demonstrate your sincerity, we are not obligated to 'handle' this matter."

Qiersina understood his meaning instantly and stopped walking towards the carriage door.

"I understand." She wiped her tears and sat down on the carriage seat. "I can take you to the unloading site. But I must make it clear that it's just a unloading site. The Baron has arranged for someone to pick you up. I don't know if the items are still there."

She was reluctant to tell the truth to the black-robed bandit before because she was afraid that he would kill her in anger. She offered to take him there in order to find an opportunity to escape on the way.

"I'll take you there, but you have to ensure the safety of me and my family! Once I tell you the location, my enemies will not only be those black-robed bandits, but also Baron Neumann!"

The man in black nodded solemnly. "Don't worry, we will handle this matter. Even if we can't deal with the Baron right now, we will properly relocate you and your family to other cities and provide you with new identities and sufficient resettlement compensation."

Qiersina finally compromised. She took a deep breath and said, "Please drive the carriage. Let's go southeast first..."

Andre rode his horse towards the north of the city.

The southern part of the city was abuzz with activity today, bustling with patrols and searches by the Kingdom's knights. However, the northern part was eerily quiet. Perhaps having heard the news of the attack on the Chena family's wagon train, the wealthy merchants and nobles suddenly had no desire to visit relatives and friends. Only their servants, who had been sent out, gathered in groups of two or three, sharing the news, their faces filled with resentment.

Once they heard the latest news, they would rush into the house without looking back and lock the door, as if there were ghosts chasing them outside.

Andre glanced at the bright sunshine that was almost at noon and couldn't help frowning.

This time, the Evil Eye Moon didn't even leave their usual warning signs at the scene, yet they had already frightened the people in the city with their brutal methods... If the robbers were not caught soon, the residents of the city would only become more panicked.

"I hope their operation goes smoothly." Andre muttered, led the horse into the Knights' stable, crossed the street in two steps, and came to the back door of the City Lord's Mansion.
