Chapter 5 Follow-up and Daily Life (5)
Having already been fighting for a whole night, the three of them were not stingy and decisively invited the stranger player to have a midnight snack together.
The student was very touched and immediately ordered some drinks for the three of them.
After some social interaction, all the diners were very happy, and the waitress who had earned a few more orders was even happier.
"By the way, have you heard?" a passerby player asked, "The boss of the Lich Group is teaming up with High Priestess Annina of the Moon Worship Cult to host the Huntington Cup Leaf Card Tournament."
"Wow!" The three of them were surprised. "We have never heard of this!"
Then they started discussing it loudly and chattering.
“Where will it be held?”
"What's the format?"
"Wait, since this is co-hosted by the Lich boss, won't there be delicious food?!"
"The preliminaries will be held across the country, and the finals will be held in the capital." The passerby player said, "I heard that our academy will also hold a preliminaries.
"I heard the professors whispering that the preliminary rounds will probably be held after finals, perfect for winter break and the New Year. The exact date and schedule haven't been decided yet, but there will definitely be all sorts of new delicacies!
"The winning rewards are also very generous. I heard that the top ten will receive an annual Lich Group food pass of varying durations, and the champion will even have the chance to meet His Majesty the King!"
He lowered his voice and said, "There's also gossip that those who perform well in the competition might be noticed by the Lich boss and get a job offer!"
"It's not surprising. Leaf cards are about strategic warfare related to governing a territory. Players who excel at them are favored by the nobles. Isn't that natural?" Before Henry could react, Lani nudged him with his elbow. "Is that the point? The point is to work for the Lich Boss!"
"Yes! Those magicians who were invited by Viscount Wilshire to work in the west city of Eston have never come back!" Eslan said with an expression of great envy on his face.
This statement might sound a bit scary to the uninitiated, but those in the know knew its true value. It was said that the academy was initially concerned about the magicians who had left and never returned, but after the academy secretary, responsible for liaison, uncomfortably announced their daily work meal menu, the number of magicians submitting resumes to Eston West City suddenly tripled.
If the Lich boss hadn't opened a few new shops in the central town, there would probably be more people who wanted to pack up and join him.
"However, hasn't Boss Lich taken over Count Canbella's territory now? She should need a lot of manpower, right?" Eslan asked.
"That being said, taking over a new territory is no easy task. Especially since the Countess of Canberra and the Earl of Rosewood are both established royal nobles. Their families have long been rooted in these territories and their influence is complex and intertwined. Even though these two families have fallen, there will always be some residual power and influence.
"I heard that Boss Lich and Count Andre only visited the new territory briefly, completed paperwork, and showed off their faces before heading off to the Lava Valley for vacation. Right now, most people are waiting to see where the next restaurant will open first, and then decide if it suits their tastes."
Everyone fell silent. Once upon a time, the magicians of Huntington never considered their tastes when planning their future careers... Only a few months had passed, and times had truly changed!
-------
With the onset of winter, the Duchy of Huntington, except for the Lava Valley, has turned into a silver world of ice and snow. The busy autumn harvest has come to an end. Most of the nobles have flocked to the capital to start the social season, while ordinary people have also begun their hibernation life.
In the eyes of the people of Huntington, winter is the most boring season. For the nobles, every day is filled with the same boring tea parties and dances, and the gossip is so repetitive that it makes people sleepy.
For ordinary people, they don’t have to work on the farm in winter, and there are few odd jobs they can take. The cold weather consumes a lot of energy, so they stay at home if possible.
However, this winter is a little different.
First, the chain store [Lich Dessert House] opened in many places including the royal capital, the central town of the Magic Academy, the west city of Eston and the city of Dresden. The sweet aroma filled the city - although this is just an exaggerated rhetoric, there are indeed many people who would rather brave the cold wind, wrapped in clothes, and squat near the dessert shop to smell the wonderful aroma of freshly baked desserts.
There are "butterfly pastries," baked to a crisp and fragrant aroma, shaped like a butterfly about to take flight, filled with butter; "egg tarts," small, round dishes, made of puff pastry wrapped in soft, springy, "pudding-like" solidified egg liquid; "milk ha-dou," sprinkled with white icing and filled with thick whipped cream, resembling a puff but also a variant of a hot dog; finger-long sea salt cheese sticks, rich in the aroma of cheesy cheese and sweet and salty; and cream horns, shaped like unicorn horns and covered in fragrant sesame seeds...
With each batch of freshly baked desserts, the shopkeepers would set aside some for tasting, cutting them into small pieces and serving them to those queuing outside or passing by. While the nobility never queued up to buy these internet-famous products, the poorer folks nearby, sniffing the scent and unexpectedly getting a piece of this treat, were thrilled. They savored even the smallest sample, the size of a thumb knuckle, bit by bit, cherishing it with all their heart.
The aroma of the most traditional, exquisite, and solid desserts, carrying the happy memories of craftsmen, is reproduced in towns and cities around the world.
"My eldest brother is in charge of selling soy sauce for our family. After work, he spends most of the year in Shanghai, where he met my sister-in-law. During the years we were dating, every year he came home, he would bring me a bunch of classic desserts from century-old shops. He said that my sister-in-law heard I loved delicious food, so she got up early and queued up at the bakery downstairs from the hotel to buy them. The line there easily stretched from Huanghe Road all the way to Nanjing Road!"
Holding Andre's arm, Jiangyou watched from across the street as the shop assistants distributed sample desserts to passersby, murmuring to him about memories of his family. "Then my brother would catch the afternoon flight or high-speed train, carefully transporting them all the way home. I always enjoyed them so much. I felt that those already incredibly delicious desserts not only carried the weight of a century of history, but also the care and love my family had for me."
"That's great..." Andre said. Although he didn't understand many of the terms, he felt the warmth in them.
"After that, I specially researched the recipes of these desserts. When my sister-in-law came back to our house during the Spring Festival, I made them for her. She was super happy that time!"
