Chapter 76 Crayfish and Beaver Dams

Chapter 76 Crayfish and Beaver Dams

After they finished their midnight snack and hastily locked everything in the warehouse, Jiangyou and Auntie Wolf went back to their rooms to sleep for a few hours. Andrei and Gorman still had to continue their duty. They continued patrolling for a while, then one rested while the other stood guard, taking turns to catch up on some sleep before the dawn.

Jericho went back to his room early last night and had a good sleep. When he woke up and heard that he had missed the clay pot rice and stir-fried beef with green onions, his good mood that had allowed him to sleep until dawn disappeared without a trace. He beat his chest and stamped his feet for a long time before he recovered.

Jiang You: “…” Are you so resentful about not being able to eat delicious food?

Because they stayed up all night last night, Jiangyou and Aunt Wolf woke up at nine in the morning. However, the carnival guests usually did not show up until dusk in the afternoon, so they still had a lot of free time.

Now, Jiangyou only needed to find ingredients to attract customers and promote the soy sauce during the evening opening. The selection criteria were simple and clear: they paired well with beer, were inexpensive, and the soy sauce would enhance their potential a thousandfold, making them exceptionally delicious.

The rampant crayfish at the beaver dam that Aunt Wolf mentioned last night might be a good starting point.

Jiangyou and Auntie Wolf had a late supper last night, so they weren't very hungry this morning. Auntie Wolf took some dry food from her handbag, while Jiangyou took out a soul fire he had packed from a skull and ate it.

After a quick breakfast, they hurried up the river and met Lorisa on the way. After hearing about their destination, the little witch volunteered to lead the way.

At the entrance of the village, Andre, who had finished his shift, brought Jericho to join their expedition team.

Jiangyou looked at the little witch leading the way, the knight and his entourage guarding them with a vigilant look, and the cheerful aunt Wolf, and suddenly he felt like he was exploring in an online game in his previous life.

As Loris led the way, she introduced the beavers to everyone.

The Beaver Dam is not far from the Witch Village Lanchalo, just two kilometers southeast of the village. There is a lake hidden in the mountains and forests, which is also the source of water for the Witch Forest.

The beavers here weren't the wild animals Jiang You had known in his previous life, but rather intelligent magical creatures. Although they couldn't speak human language, they had their own language. Lolisa had learned a little beaver language, which was just enough to help her communicate with them.

"I've heard from the elders that we have a lot of rain here in the summer, and the rivers often swell, often washing away houses and farmland, which is very annoying. But since the beavers moved to this lake, they have built many dams, which not only do not affect our water use downstream, but also control the amount of water.

"Thanks to them, we've created a lot of fertile fields along the original riverbed! But recently, a group of devil crayfish appeared out of nowhere, waving their claws every day to drill holes and dig pits in the dam, which is really annoying the beavers."

As she was talking, she saw the lake not far away. Lolisa's eyes lit up: "Look, we're here."

Jiang You took a few quick steps, and his bone claws left long and thin footprints on the soft ground.

A mountain lake, surrounded by tall trees, suddenly came into view. The water was emerald green, clear, and tranquil as a mirror. Looking around, she could see four or five rivers and streams flowing from the mountains in all directions, converging into the lake. However, beaver dams had now been built at each waterway's mouth.

This dam is a crude yet innovative design. While the lower half is solid, effectively blocking the flow of water, the upper half is constructed with branches to create gaps. Once the water accumulates above a certain height, it flows through these gaps into the lake. The dam doesn't completely block the flow, but it significantly slows the water flowing down from the mountains, allowing it to flow more gently into the lake.

Excess lake water would also gently overflow the upper part of the beaver dam and flow into the river leading to the witch village. The river water was filtered by branches and stones, making it even clearer.

During the flood season, this is indeed a good flood prevention facility.

"Mr. Beaver!" Lolisa called out loudly to all around.

Not long after, a beaver wearing a straw hat and a straw bow tie suddenly emerged from the lake.

It adjusted its bow tie with its black paws in a very gentlemanly manner, walked over swayingly, took off its hat to a few people, and saluted very gracefully.

"This is Mr. Beaver," Lorisa introduced. "He's the leader of the beavers here."

She changed her language and cried to Mr. Beaver for a while. The Beaver nodded to several people in turn, indicating that they should follow him.

It turned and ran, its flat black tail swinging behind it. Jiang You found it interesting and quickly caught up with it, running all the way to a dam.

There are many beavers living here, some are foraging in the water, and some are gnawing on trees on the shore. Each of them has a big black nose, wet brown hair, black sharp claws, round eyes like black beans and a flat black leather tail. They look naive and very cute.

Mr. Beaver pointed to a spot on the dam and muttered something, "Whims!" Loris nodded repeatedly and translated for everyone, "Look over there! That's the magic lobster."

Jiang You looked in the direction she pointed, and sure enough, he saw a green lobster half the size of a palm, waving its two large claws on a branch of the dam... To be honest, this size can't even be considered a 'small' lobster.

"Wow, it's so fat, it must be delicious?" Jiang You couldn't help but say, she used the [Poison Detection Technique] on the magic lobster, and the result was very pleasing, it was non-toxic, harmless and without parasites, and could be eaten.

"Y-yummy?" Lolita was confused. "Wait, this thing is dangerous!"

"Is it an intelligent race?" asked Jiang You.

"No, no, these magic lobsters are impossible to communicate with, but they are a kind of magical beast. They are born with the ability to use a kind of 'wind blade' magic, and their claws are also very powerful! The beavers can't do anything to them!"

"Oh!" Jiang You looked down and picked up two long and thin branches from the shore to use as 'chopsticks'. Without the cumbersome flesh and skin, her light skeleton jumped onto the beaver dam with a light jump. She pinched the long chopsticks in her hand and lifted the magic lobster from the dam.

Lolisa and the beavers watched in horror as the skeleton hopped back with the shrimp in its mouth.

Suddenly, the sensitive lich sensed a gathering of wind elements in the shrimp's head. She subconsciously let go of her chopsticks and pressed the shrimp head downward into the mud. Suddenly, a huge bubble of mud and water popped up from the mud.

"Wind, wind blade?" Lolisa watched as the lich lifted the shrimp up again, stamping its bony claws on the mud and packing it back in. Jiangyou shook the lobster, which waved its claws futilely in the air, feeling hopeless. "Is it safe now?"
