Chapter 48

Chapter 48

"With your limited skills, do you really think they can trust you?"

As soon as Ke Xin returned home, she bumped into Fu Xuan's chest.

Ke Xin shrank her neck, like a child on guard against mistakes, and obediently walked to the entrance to change into slippers, subconsciously hiding her hands behind her back.

Fu Xuan leaned over and stared at her little trick quietly, then snatched Ke Xin's hand and walked towards the sofa!

Ke Xin walked in small steps, looking guilty and asking, "You know everything?"

Fu Xuan lowered his head and carefully treated her wound. Ke Xin had bandaged the wound herself at the pharmacy before she came back.

Originally, she was thinking that after she came back, she would send the selfie of her and Fu Yang to Fu Xuan and then break up with him. Unexpectedly, she ran into Fu Xuan as soon as she came back. What she didn't expect was that before she opened her mouth, Fu Xuan had already known her plan.

The emotions that had been brewing were shattered in just a second. Ke Xin didn't know whether to be happy or sad. Facing Fu Xuan's scrutinizing gaze, she lowered her head and her expression flickered.

After checking the wound and finding it was not serious, Fu Xuan said to Ke Xin seriously, "I know you are doing this for my own good, but please don't take risks for me like this next time, okay?"

Ke Xin looked up in surprise. This was the first time she spoke with slightly red eyes.

Ke Xin said with a tone of self-blame: "I'm sorry, I made a fool of myself after all this fuss. I didn't even bring your mother's belongings!"

Then she clenched her palms and said with an annoyed look, "I almost got the necklace back, but who knew that at the last minute, you, that old shrew, would go back on your word again!"

Fu Xuan suddenly sneered: "My dad, that old shrew, knew from the beginning that this trick wouldn't work on me, but you were the only naive one who rushed in and got hurt. Remember, don't be so impulsive next time!"

As he spoke, Fu Xuan leaned over, took Ke Xin into his arms and rubbed her head: "Since I haven't had much to do recently, why not give myself a break and go out for a walk!"

After saying this, Ke Xin suddenly remembered the agreement she made with her aunt yesterday, and immediately made an appointment with her to go there tomorrow!

When Zhong Hua learned that Ke Xin was coming, he was very excited and said that he would prepare a good meal to welcome her.

After making an appointment, knowing that Zhong Hua had always suffered from anemia, Ke Xin specially bought a bunch of expensive supplements and put them in the trunk.

As the car merged into the traffic flow, Ke Xin clicked on Zhong Hua's most recent photo. In the photo, she had a plump and round face, her eyebrows and eyes curved when she smiled, and she was picking tea with a bamboo basket on her back. It seemed that she should have a happier marriage than her first one.

Ke Xin's eyes fell on the constantly changing scenery outside the window, and she thought of the time when she was seven years old. Her stomach was empty, she was so hungry that she was just skin and bones. She was sore and weak all over, and she looked coldly at the cold words her relatives threw at her from time to time.

At that time, she thought that she might as well starve to death. Since her father didn't love her and her mother didn't care about her, it didn't matter if she died.

Just when she had a high fever and her eyes were blurry, Zhong Hua was the first to rush into the shabby room, carry Ke Xin, who was lying on the ground and dying, back home, and feed her with rice soup bit by bit. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.

It was this unattended help that pulled her back from the brink of death.

She remembered hearing a saying somewhere: those who have helped you will always help you, and those who have hurt you will always hurt you.

She believed it deeply. So, after Zhong Hua pulled her back from the brink of death, he immediately pointed at Chen Min's nose and cursed her: "Even a tiger won't eat its own cubs. You actually left a seven-year-old child at home without caring about her. Do you know that she ate everything there was to eat and chew, and was short of chewing tree bark? You really treat her like a refugee. How can you be a parent like that?"

Chen Min immediately turned into a shrew when she heard this. She pointed at Zhong Hua and yelled, "This is our family affair, what's it to you? If you have the time to spare, you might as well find someone to marry. You're almost 38 and still acting like a shrew. No wonder you can't get married!"

Zhong Hua was equally furious, and with his hands on his hips, he cursed at Chen Min: "Bah, you're so arrogant, so what if you get married? You didn't care that your daughter almost died of illness. You're really ashamed of women!"

"You're the one who's going to die..."

At that moment, Ke Xin, who was only seven years old, saw for the first time someone standing up for her. She was deeply moved and began to reflect on her relationship with Chen Min.

Sometimes, she began to doubt that Chen Min really didn't look like her biological daughter, otherwise how could a mother be so indifferent to her own daughter, even treating her worse than a stranger.

But no matter what she thought, from then on, she, who was only seven years old, began to instinctively activate her self-rescue system.

From then on, she was often silent. Apart from studying, she spent the rest of her time like an emotionless machine, doing various housework for Chen Min.

In addition, she also learned to pick up cans like the homeless and sell them. Sometimes she could get one dollar at a time, and she saved it bit by bit. It was this surplus money that allowed her to fill her stomach during many forgotten days and survive until now.

The fifty-minute drive was over before we knew it.

Time flies. When I met my aunt Zhong Hua, she was nearly fifty years old and had a few strands of white hair on her temples!

"Aunt, long time no see!"

Ke Xin stood in front of Zhong Hua carrying two bags full of gifts.

Zhong Hua was stunned for a moment, until he heard Ke Xin's kind and gentle smile, then he came to his senses, opened the creaking wooden door, and said with a smile on his face: "Oh, it's really Ke Xin, come in!"

Ke Xin stepped into the house and placed the gift in her hand in the small living room. Zhong Hua quickly poured a glass of water and handed it to Ke Xin. Seeing that she brought so many things, he couldn't help but say in embarrassment: "You're here, why do you need to bring gifts?"

"Aunt, I haven't seen you for so long, so of course I have to bring you something. Oh, and I remember you're prone to anemia, so these are blood tonics, remember to eat them!"

Ke Xin took the water cup and casually glanced at the interior of the one-bedroom, one-living room area of only 40 square meters. At first glance, both the furniture and the decorations were simple and unpretentious. Fortunately, although the place was small, it had everything. Although it was crowded, it was kept clean and neatly arranged.

As soon as Zhong Hua saw Ke Xin, his eyes lit up and he muttered subconsciously: "Girls really change a lot when they grow up. I didn't expect Ke Xin to be so pretty after growing up!"

Then she glanced at the gift box on the ground, and her smiling face suddenly disappeared. She had thought it was just an ordinary thing, but she never thought that it would be okay if she didn't look at it. When she looked at it, she saw that it was either bird's nest, Ganoderma lucidum, and various kinds of donkey-hide gelatin. Her eyes widened in surprise and said, "Oh, these are very expensive. This must have cost a lot of money!"

"I'm your aunt, and I've been thrifty all my life. I've never used anything you bought me. I'm so embarrassed!"

She couldn't help rubbing her hands, and her expression changed from surprise, to happiness, to embarrassment!

Ke Xin placed the water cup on the old wooden table and smiled with relief, "Don't be so polite with me." Then she sighed, staring down at her heels and lost in memory, "Do you remember when I was seven? If it weren't for you back then, I would have starved to death!"

The implication was that she was her savior and this little thing was nothing to worry about!

Hearing this, Zhong Hua also fell into reminiscence, and his expression suddenly became furious: "At that time, I was really angry when I thought of you. Those damn people, it was obviously just a piece of cake to give you a bite to eat, but they insisted on watching you starve to death!"

"That cousin wouldn't let me give you a bite to eat back then. You were only a few years old, but you actually said you wanted to see how someone starved to death." She continued with an incredulous look on her face, "What kind of person are you talking about? A child of a few years old can say such things. Her parents must be ruthless!"

"Back then, women were not treated as human beings, even worse than animals!"

After a pause, she patted her thigh and said, "Fortunately, you are successful now, and your life is getting better. Let's not think about the past. I will kill a chicken for you later!"

"Great! It's been a long time since I've eaten your cooking!"

When Ke Xin heard about eating chicken, she immediately became excited.

Looking at my aunt's slightly hunched back, I hadn't seen her for a few years. Her face looked a little more weathered, and her temples were slightly gray. Although she always had a smile on her face, I could vaguely see some reluctance in her smile.

She walked briskly to the backyard. Just as she opened the door, the clucking of chickens mixed with the sound of footsteps came into her ears. Ke Xin followed her to the backyard curiously.

In the backyard, the chickens had just been untied from the fences. They seemed to have gained freedom and walked around freely and briskly. Occasionally, some of them flapped their wings, causing clouds of dust.

"Aunt, are you doing well here?"

Ke Xin suddenly asked Zhong Hua, who had just caught a chicken and was about to go to the kitchen.

Zhong Hua's smiling face paused for a moment, then he slowed down his pace and walked to the stove. He put the chicken into the boiling water, put on gloves, and picked up the scalded chicken with tongs. He casually took a plastic stool and sat on it. He bent down and carefully plucked the chicken feathers. Then he slowly said: "Ever since I married your uncle who only knows how to write books, all my relatives despise me for marrying a poor guy and living a hard life of daily labor, but I am happy with it. Even if he is poor, I am willing to marry him!"

Ke Xin held her chin with her hand and asked curiously, "Is it because of love?"

When she mentioned her uncle, the crow's feet at the corners of Zhong Hua's eyes became more obvious. She looked at him inexplicably kindly and said slowly, "I don't know about love or not. I only know that I married a miner in my first marriage. My family had no worries about food and drink, but I felt depressed every day. But since I married your uncle, even though he is poor, I am full of joy whenever I see him. I wish I could stick to him every day!"

"Following him, even pickles and porridge are delicious!"

She spoke gently as she plucked the chicken's feathers, stood up with a smile on her face, and put the chicken on the chopping board. She raised her knife and chopped it down with a clang. Soon the chicken was torn into pieces.

Mentioning her uncle, the crow's feet on the corners of Zhong Hua's eyes became more obvious. Looking at him inexplicably kindly, she said slowly, "I don't know what love is.
