Chapter 2 Extinction

Li Xi felt a dazzling light, squinted her eyes, and then slowly opened them.

The surroundings took her by surprise; everything was devastated and dilapidated. She couldn't help but wonder if she had been transported to some primitive era.

The sight before her shocked and amazed her. Looking around, she saw that the house was dilapidated, with only a few broken stools and a square table as furniture, as if it had been ransacked.

A question arose in my mind: Is this really a place for people to live?

Looking around, she found herself wrapped in white cotton cloth, seemingly completely covered. She tried to move, but felt excruciating pain all over her body.

Was she hit by a car? Just then, a figure pushed open the door and entered. "Miss, you're awake. Don't move for now," a girl dressed in coarse linen clothes quickly stepped forward and pressed Li Xi down, afraid that Li Xi would hurt herself.

“Young lady, your limbs are still broken and have not healed, so do not move around. You also have eighteen knife wounds on your body, one of which went through your back and almost pierced your genitals. There are also many scratches on your body and face from tree branches. You will need to rest for some time.”

The girl's warm words brushed over Li Xi's wounds like a spring breeze. She carefully examined the wounds, her eyes filled with deep worry and concern.

"Girl?" Li Xi grasped this key word. In what era and what place did people refer to girls as "girl"?

Her mind was buzzing. Based on the novels she had read before, could she have traveled to ancient times without cell phones?

He cursed the judge in his heart, thinking, "What kind of bullshit is this 'guaranteed satisfaction'?"

As a modern person in the 21st century, born under the red flag and raised in the spring breeze, the people have faith, the country has strength, and everywhere we look is China, and the five stars shining are all a testament to our faith.

Did I just suddenly end up here? I can't believe it.

While Li Xi was still in a daze, the girl brought her a bowl of medicinal soup, propped up Li Xi's head, and fed her spoonful by spoonful. "Miss, please don't be impatient, you need to take good care of yourself."

Li Xi, mimicking words from ancient romance novels he had read before, said, "I am deeply grateful to you for saving my life, young lady. I have no way to repay you. May I ask your name? If you ever need anything in the future, please just ask. I am willing to go through fire and water for you."

The girl smiled and said, "My name is Meng Zhelan. You flatter me, young lady. Saving lives and healing the wounded is our duty as doctors. My father often teaches me this."

Although Meng Zhelan was curious about why Li Xi had fallen from the mountain to this place, she did not ask for fear of touching on Li Xi's painful memories.

Judging from his height of over seven feet, which is not much different from that of a man, and his youthful and dashing appearance, he should be around sixteen years old.

He must have had some reason for dressing as a man before. And since his clothes are made of fine brocade, he must be from a wealthy family.

Although Meng Zhelan lived in a remote and impoverished area, she had traveled and practiced medicine with her father in her early years, and had seen many different local customs and traditions. She knew a little about Li Xi's identity.

Li Xi said gratefully, "If it weren't for Miss Meng's rescue, I would probably be dead here. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her my second parent."

Judging from the bare walls of Miss Meng's home, her life must have been difficult.

However, the original owner of this body had long since passed away, and fragmented memories remained in her mind, causing her endless headaches.

Meng Zhelan looked at Li Xi and glanced around, her face slightly flushed. "My father is the village doctor of Yadi Village. When I was very young, he took me here to settle down. Most of the villagers are poor, with meager incomes just enough to make a living. A few months ago, my father went up the mountain to collect herbs and disappeared. We have been searching for him without success..."

Touching on Meng Zhelan's sore spot, Li Xi said with remorse, "Miss Meng, I'm sorry, um... this is..."

“It’s alright, Miss Li. I believe my father must have been delayed by something, and he will definitely come back.” Meng Zhelan’s eyes reddened.

"Miss Meng, please rest assured. Once I have recovered from my injuries, I will do my best to help you find your father."

"Miss Li, please focus on recovering. I'm sure you have your own difficulties. We can talk about this after you've fully recovered."

Meng Zhelan went out to look for her father several times, but there was no news. He must have had something urgent and didn't have time to say goodbye.

She and her father had relied on each other for over ten years; there was no way he would abandon her.

However, as a woman, it was inconvenient for her to travel far, so she had been searching for her father in the vicinity.

"Miss Li, you should rest well. I'll go out and look for some herbs; my father treasures them very much."

After saying that, Meng Zhelan walked out. Li Xi didn't say anything more after seeing Meng Zhelan leave. With her current state, what kind of promises could she possibly make to other girls?

She hadn't even figured out which way was north, south, east, or west in this era, or her surroundings. Even in modern times, she couldn't tell directions and relied on her phone for navigation when encountering strangers. How could she survive here without a phone?

Suddenly, I felt like the future was bleak. Damn it, how am I supposed to survive if I leave her here?

How could I be so bewitched by the fact that someone is 1.77 meters tall...? What can someone who is 1.77 meters tall do while lying in bed?

Others may not understand her obsession with height, but she has been called "Potato" or "Dumb" for two or three decades.

Why did she repeatedly encounter obstacles in her job search? Because her major in college was fashion design.

During job interviews, people often ask about her height, and some even ask her why she, who is short, wants to study fashion design. Why do you think she would? Because she loves it!

She had finally secured a stable job when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. At that moment, she wondered if she had come into this world to suffer. Her mother had tried so hard to live, why did she have to take away her only love?

Thinking of the painful memories, her eyes welled up with tears, as if a layer of mist had formed.

With fragmented memories jumbled in her mind, Li Xi drifted off to sleep. In her dream, amidst the darkness, swords clashed and sounds of battle echoed.

A young man in a light blue brocade robe, holding a long sword, was forced to the edge of a cliff.

Facing enemies from all directions, he showed no fear, bravely charging forward and wielding his sword to defend against attacks from all sides.

The number of men in black dwindled as the boy killed them.

The sky was overcast, and the atmosphere was unusually tense.

At this moment, a man in black emerged from the darkness, holding a sword to an elderly man with a slightly hunched back and some white hair at his temples. "Give me your jade pendant and secret letter, or I will kill him."

"How dare you! Release Uncle Zhao!" The young man was furious and stepped forward, ready to draw his sword to face the threat from the man in black.

Unexpectedly, the other party scattered medicinal powder, which the young man dodged to the side. "Who sent you? Such despicable methods must show how much your master fears me."

"Ha, what's wrong with achieving our goal?" the man in black said dismissively.

"Young master, run! Don't worry about this old man!" Uncle Zhao said tremblingly. Looking at the kind-looking Uncle Zhao in front of him, the young man hesitated.

When he was young, his parents often went out to do business, leaving the two children in the care of the steward, Uncle Zhao. Although he was a servant, his father and mother never looked down on him.

Her parents lost their lives when they encountered bandits while traveling as merchants. In recent years, Uncle Zhao has been helping her manage the family business, which is why she hasn't gone blind and has gradually become proficient.

"Alright, I'll give it to you. Release Uncle Zhao immediately." The young man took out a brocade pouch, which his father had entrusted to him before his death, saying it contained the family business and the wealth he had accumulated over the years.

"I'll snatch it back later," the boy thought. After examining the purse the boy threw to him, the man in black released Uncle Zhao as promised and fled.

“Miss, it’s not worth losing such an important keepsake for an old servant,” Uncle Zhao said, tears streaming down his face.

"Uncle Zhao, don't worry. Just find a place to settle down. I've put some special spices in my purse. I'll go find them and snatch them back."

The boy smiled smugly and turned to leave to search.

Unaware of the fleeting ruthlessness in Zhao Bo's eyes, the young man began, "Zhao..." Before he could finish speaking, a dagger was plunged into her back, seemingly piercing her heart.

He turned to Zhao Bo in disbelief, "You...why?"

"You silly child, you're just as simple-minded as your father and mother, but also clever. Otherwise, I wouldn't have needed to hide my identity for over a decade and only now have I had the chance to obtain your token. Actually, it hasn't been easy for us to spend so many years together. I was going to let you go, but who knew you would use incense to track me. To prevent future troubles, I had no choice. The knife is already poisoned, and your death will be in an hour."

The boy pressed his hand to his chest, unable to stop the gushing blood, and asked in despair, "Why?!"

"Of course it's for my master... well, it's no use telling you," Zhao Bo said coldly.

Watching the boy gradually lose his breath, Uncle Zhao kicked him off the cliff, muttering, "I didn't want to either, don't blame me, blame yourself for being born into the Li family!"

With a few loud rumbles, a heavy rain began to fall from the sky.
