Chapter 119 Dream

Mucheng

"Divine Messenger, why don't we just arrest that person?" the man in black inside the room asked Situ Feng.

The jade pendant in Situ Feng's hand fluttered between his fingertips, his eyes fixed on it, clearly lost in thought.

He slowly shook his head and said in a low voice, "We must not be hasty. We are dealing with a cunning fox, not a puppet that can be manipulated at will. If we act rashly, we may alert her and make her wary. In that case, it will be difficult for us to get what we want."

After hearing this, the man in black lowered his head and pondered Situ Feng's words, clearly processing the information.

He looked up at Situ Feng, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes: "Then what should we do?"

Situ Feng smiled, the jade pendant in his hand vanished instantly, and then his fingers traced a line in the air, as if drawing an invisible painting.

His voice was deep and confident: "First, we need to understand his lifestyle and find his weaknesses. What's more, he has secrets that he probably doesn't even know himself."

The man in black listened to Situ Feng's plan, a hint of disbelief flashing in his eyes.

So the two began to discuss the specific plan in hushed tones.

The flickering lights inside cast long shadows of them, making them look like two ghosts plotting something.

Their target, the seemingly ordinary person, was unaware that he had become the target of these two ghosts.

"Spicy Immortal Pot" branch

Based on the sketches provided by Li Xi, the people from Yinxianshanzhuang hired a professional decoration team to take full responsibility for the renovation of the hot pot restaurant.

To ensure the final result met expectations, Li Xi and her team revised and improved the plan multiple times to ensure the hot pot restaurant's unique style and high-quality decoration.

After a morning of discussions, the matter was basically settled, and Li Xi decided to return to the capital.

"Brother Feng, things are almost settled now. I plan to return to the capital first. I'll check on the progress in a few days."

Feng Monian's expression was somewhat strange, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.

"What's wrong, Brother Feng? Do you have something to say?" Li Xi asked.

Feng Monian was silent for a moment, then said softly, "Let me go back with you. I happen to have some things to take care of in Kyoto."

Li Xi was slightly taken aback, then smiled and said, "That's great! Now I don't have to worry about how to get back."

After making some preparations, the two set off for the capital.

On the carriage, Li Xi couldn't help but sigh, "Brother Feng, although your carriage is comfortable, riding a horse is still faster."

Feng Monian said to Li Xi in a half-serious, half-joking tone, "How about we have a horsemanship competition sometime in the future?"

"No problem, I'm always ready," Li Xi replied with a smile.

If she were on horseback, she would arrive in less than an hour. It must be said that although travel was inconvenient for people in ancient times, the scenery along the way was quite beautiful.

A carriage sped past on the forest path, dappled sunlight falling on Li Xi's face. The warm sunshine and gentle breeze made her feel drowsy, and gradually, she closed her eyes and began to snore softly. Soon after, her breathing became more and more even, clearly indicating that she had drifted into a sweet dream.

Li Xi saw Qin Xiaolin in her dream. She hadn't seen him for a while, and this reunion made her feel excited.

"Brother Qin, why are you walking so fast? My hot pot restaurant is opening, and you didn't even come to support me." Li Xi quickly caught up with Qin Xiaolin and patted him on the shoulder, teasing him.

However, Qin Xiaolin turned around and looked at her, his eyes full of doubt, "Who are you?"

Li Xi couldn't believe her ears. "It's me, Li Xi! Brother Qin, are you kidding me?"

A hint of displeasure flashed across Qin Xiaolin's face, and he said stiffly, "I'm sorry, I think you've mistaken me for someone else. I don't know you."

Li Xi was stunned. "What? Are you out of your mind?"

Qin Xiaolin ignored her and continued searching through the ruins. Li Xi curiously went over to take a look.

"What are you looking for, Brother Qin?" she asked.

Qin Xiaolin didn't answer, but instead dug even harder. After an hour or two of digging, he seemed to have discovered something and began to focus his efforts on one spot. A short while later, a woman covered in filth appeared before them.

Qin Xiaolin held the woman in his arms, tears streaming down his face, "Xixi, it's me. I'm late. Open your eyes and look at me." However, the woman in his arms did not respond.

"Brother Qin, it seems she's dead." Li Xi felt a pang of sadness as he looked at the scene.

"She's not dead! She's just unconscious!" Qin Xiaolin shouted, then carefully carried the woman in his arms. "I'm here, I've come to take you home. Xixi, Xixi."

Qin Xiaolin gently wiped the woman's face with a handkerchief, choking back tears as he said, "Look at you, you're still so beautiful. You said you were already in your mid-twenties, no longer young. You said we'd get married after this war ended. How could you go back on your word?"

Li Xi watched this scene from the side, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She couldn't help but take a closer look at the woman's face, and was astonished to find that the woman looked exactly like her. Only slightly more mature than herself.

Xi Xi? Her name is Xi Xi?

Li Xi felt a lump in her throat, and she hurriedly asked Qin Xiaolin, "Brother Qin, what's her name?"

Qin Xiaolin replied with a blank look in his eyes, "Her name is Li Xi, and she is my wife. In this life and for all eternity, she will always be my wife."

Li Xi was filled with confusion and doubt. The scene before her was too unbelievable for her to comprehend.

She couldn't help but ask herself repeatedly: What on earth is going on? How did she become like this? And am I dreaming?

To wake herself from the dream, she began pinching her thigh hard, trying to rouse herself through pain. However, no matter how hard she pinched, the pain felt so real and so clear.

"No, this isn't a dream." A voice echoed in her heart, sending a chill down her spine.

Li Xi suddenly realized that all of this might be far more complicated and bizarre than she had imagined. She decided to find out the truth, whether in a dream or in reality.

Li Xi looked at Qin Xiaolin, somewhat puzzled. She asked, "Brother Qin, what year is it now?"

Qin Xiaolin stared blankly at the woman in his arms, his voice filled with sorrow: "It is now the fifth year of Zhongyuan."

"The fifth year of Zhongyuan?" Li Xi was startled. "Wasn't that during the reign of Emperor Wenyuan?"

"Emperor Wenyuan? He died long ago. Five years ago, his son, Prince Liang, succeeded to the throne. It was he who plunged the entire Jingyuan Kingdom into an abyss of no return."
