Chapter 249 Imperial Marriage

When Li Xi stepped into Tingfeng Courtyard, it was already late at night, around 9 PM.

She discovered that Meng Zhelan and the others had already returned home and were anxiously awaiting her return.

"Xiaoxi, how is Xiaoyi?" Meng Zhelan greeted her immediately, her face full of concern. She had also learned of Li Yi's accident and was equally worried. Originally, she had wanted to go with him, but the unexpected incident in the palace prevented her from leaving.

"She's mostly recovered, but she needs some time to rest and recuperate," Li Xi said, gently patting the back of her hand. Then, she sat down, picked up a cup of hot tea, and took a sip, trying to dispel the chill of the night.

The bright lights inside Tingfeng Courtyard added a touch of warmth to the quiet night.

Li Xi's return was like a reassurance to everyone. Although Li Yi's condition was still worrying, at least he was out of danger now.

"What exactly happened?" Meng Zhelan asked softly, sitting beside Li Xi. Her voice trembled slightly, clearly indicating that she was still unsettled.

Li Xi took a deep breath and recounted in detail how Li Yi and his companions encountered the robbers.

We need to investigate the robbery more thoroughly.

She originally thought that most of the robbers should have been imprisoned by the government and would certainly not dare to be as arrogant and reckless as before.

But to everyone's surprise, Xiao Yi still ran into it!

To outsiders, they were nothing more than a group of poor students, dressed very simply, and did not look like rich kids at all.

Not to mention that those bandits were only after money, so why would they want to kill Xiao Yi?

This is so strange!

However, she didn't intend to discuss these matters in detail with her girlfriends, so as not to add to their worries.

"By the way, did anything interesting happen in the palace today?" Li Xi asked casually, knowing that today was the day for the princes of marriageable age to choose their princesses.

Meng Zhelan recalled everything that had happened today, and a bitter smile crept onto her lips.

"Actually, it's nothing particularly big, it's just that His Highness Prince An is finally getting married," she said softly, a complex emotion welling up inside her.

She recalled some of her past fantasies, shook her head self-deprecatingly, and felt that she was really stupid.

"Huh? Marry whom?" Li Xi was slightly surprised.

"By the way, did anything interesting happen in the palace today?" Li Xi asked casually, knowing that today was an important day for selecting a princess for the eligible princes.

Meng Zhelan pondered for a moment, and after a while, a complex smile appeared on her lips.

"Actually, it's nothing particularly big. It's just that His Highness Prince An has finally decided to get married," she said softly, her voice carrying a hint of indescribable emotion.

Upon hearing this, Li Xi's eyes widened, revealing a hint of surprise.

"Hmm? Who will you marry?" she asked curiously, her heart filled with curiosity about the woman who was about to become the Princess Consort of An.

Seeing Li Xi's reaction, Meng Zhelan smiled gently and continued, "It is Princess Xuan Qing of Xuan Yue Kingdom."

Her tone was calm, but there was a subtle, unsettling glint in her eyes.

"Huh? How could it be her? Didn't you say earlier that the Prince of Liang and that princess..." Li Xi suddenly remembered some things Meng Zhelan had mentioned before and couldn't help but ask with some doubt.

Meng Zhelan frowned slightly, as if considering how to answer.

After a moment, she sighed and slowly said, "I don't know the reason for this either. It's just that during the banquet, something unexpected happened. Du Ruoxi and His Highness Prince Liang were found together, behaving intimately, which caused quite a stir."

Li Xi found it unbelievable: "Didn't Du Ruoxi like Prince An? How could she... have an affair with Prince Liang?"

Before she could finish speaking, Meng Zhelan gently shook her head, interrupting her: "Who can really understand matters of the heart? Perhaps Du Ruoxi had feelings for Prince An, but people's hearts can change. Perhaps at some point, she will find that Prince Liang is more to her liking."

After hearing this, Li Xi remained silent for a moment, still somewhat puzzled.

She recalled Du Ruoxi's appearance that day. She seemed to be infatuated with Prince An. How could she have suddenly changed her mind?

Seeing Li Xi's puzzled expression, Meng Zhelan sighed softly and continued, "As for Princess Xuanqing of Xuan Yue Kingdom, although she was furious about what the two had done, she later expressed her affection for Prince An. And Prince An didn't refuse; instead, he gladly accepted..."

"What?" Li Xi's eyes widened in surprise. Wasn't Prince An supposed to be with Lan'er...? Why would he do this?

Was he just putting on an act all along? For what purpose? They had no power or influence.

As expected, the royal family members are all cold-hearted and fickle. Fortunately, Lan'er has not had any entanglement with him, and they are still just ordinary doctor and patient.

"Didn't His Highness Prince An say that he was... physically weak and rejected Du Ruoxi? Why is he suddenly getting married?"

Meng Zhelan seemed lost in thought, her eyes vacant and unfocused. She just stood there blankly for a while.

Her lips parted slightly, and she softly uttered a sentence: "Your Highness's thoughts are beyond the comprehension of others."

As if those words had exhausted all her strength, she relaxed completely after speaking, leaning back in her chair and closing her eyes slightly.

"Lan'er, what do you think about this?" Li Xi asked softly, carefully observing Meng Zhelan's emotional changes because she was worried that Meng Zhelan would be saddened by this.

Meng Zhelan smiled faintly and replied, "Me? In the end, the royal family and nobles are from two different worlds than us common people. Besides, intermarriage between countries is common, so it's not surprising."

Her tone conveyed a sense of detachment and indifference, as if she had long since seen through all the worldly troubles.

In her view, she was just an ordinary doctor, and these things had little to do with her.

The two stopped discussing the topic.

Meng Zhelan and Li Xi suggested that they go to the academy the next day to give Li Yi a diagnosis.

After all, injuring the body also depletes a lot of vital energy.

"Thank you, Lan'er." Li Xi understood that she cared deeply for the two siblings; this was her good sister.

She hugged Meng Zhelan and said coquettishly, "You're the best, Lan'er. Let's live together from now on. After I avenge my great enemy, we'll travel the world together."

Meng Zhelan looked at her with affection, "Okay, I'll listen to you. Life is short and the world is so big. If we can enjoy it with a few close friends, then we won't have lived in vain."

"Hey, let me tell you, there are actually different races in this world, and their clothing, beliefs, religions, and lifestyles are all different..."
