Chapter 324 A Deliberate Deception

Upon seeing this, a hint of doubt and wariness flashed in Black Wolf's eyes.

He immediately stepped forward and stopped the middle-aged man, asking in a deep voice, "What are you doing?"

The middle-aged man turned around, saw it was Black Wolf, and gave an embarrassed smile: "Lord Black Wolf, I just wanted to test the effect of this antidote pill."

Black Wolf frowned, looking at the antidote pill in the middle-aged man's hand, then at Meng Zhelan, and angrily said, "Who gave you permission to do this? Where is Xiao Ze?"

The middle-aged man hesitated, then said, "Xiao Ze went to look for you when you didn't come back for a long time."

Black Wolf's face grew increasingly grim. "Why don't I see him? Don't try to play tricks on me. The master sent you here to help, not to be the boss!"

The middle-aged man was overwhelmed by the Black Wolf's imposing aura and could hardly breathe. He hurriedly waved his hands and pleaded, "Lord Black Wolf, I absolutely didn't mean that! I just... just wanted to test the effects of this antidote pill to put everyone at ease. I really didn't mean anything else!"

Black Wolf snorted coldly, clearly not entirely believing his story.

Meng Zhelan, who was standing to the side, finally recovered and picked up the teapot next to her, and poured it into her mouth.

The cool tea flowed down her throat, slightly relieving the feeling of choking.

She drank the water in large gulps, as if she could never get enough.

She only managed to swallow the pill after drinking the entire pot of tea.

Meng Zhelan gently patted her chest, trying to calm the discomfort that was still churning within her.

Black Wolf looked at her, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.

After a long pause, he finally managed to utter, "Dr. Meng, are you alright?"

"I'm perfectly fine, this is a good elixir!" Meng Zhelan said irritably.

She really didn't want to go into that dense forest filled with miasma; staying here might give her a chance to escape.

During this time, she used the excuse of stretching her muscles to observe her surroundings.

Not far away, she discovered a small hill, and at the foot of the hill flowed a river.

She had once tested Ozawa and learned that he couldn't swim.

So she devised a plan, intending to find a suitable opportunity to run to the riverbank and use her swimming skills to escape.

However, the plan was disrupted before it could even be implemented.

"Then I'll trouble Dr. Meng to come with me." Black Wolf gestured for her to follow.

With no other option, Meng Zhelan had to bite the bullet and follow.

The middle-aged man smiled smugly, thinking to himself: This black wolf is obviously interested in this young lady. If I don't remind him, he might ruin my master's plans.

The group walked into the dense forest and soon encountered a forest full of mist. The air was filled with the smell of miasma, which made people unconsciously cover their mouths and noses.

Meng Zhelan looked around and saw towering trees with intertwined branches and leaves.

Sunlight could barely penetrate this thick green barrier, making the entire forest appear gloomy and mysterious.

The group moved cautiously, afraid of disturbing some unknown creature.

Filled with unease and curiosity, she followed the black wolf cautiously. Although neither of them were good people, they could at least protect her from wild beasts.

"Black Wolf, didn't we come here yesterday?" the middle-aged man asked, puzzled as to why they needed to come again.

But the black wolf in front seemed not to hear him and kept walking forward, as if it were searching for something.

Meng Zhelan could only follow closely behind her, glancing around from time to time to see if there was any chance to escape.

Just then, a child's voice called out from ahead. It was Ozawa. "Big brother, we've found something here."

Black Wolf immediately went after them, and the others quickened their pace to follow.

Ahead, Xiaoze was squatting there digging something, and a piece of tattered cloth was sticking out from inside.

He crouched down and used his hands to clear away the surrounding soil. Gradually, a skeleton was revealed, with a dilapidated wooden box next to it.

Beside the skeleton was a worn-out wooden box.

The wooden box looks very old, with some blurry patterns carved on it, which seem to contain some kind of mysterious meaning.

Black Wolf curiously picked up the wooden box and tried to open it.

After some effort, the wooden box was finally opened, revealing it to be filled with gold and silver jewels, radiating a dazzling light.

Everyone was overjoyed to see this.

They swarmed around, their eyes gleaming with greed.

These gold and silver treasures are undoubtedly a huge fortune, and it seems there must be a treasure trove nearby.

And this skeleton may be that of someone who once searched for treasure, but died here for some unknown reason.

"Everyone, go and search the neighborhood." Black Wolf breathed a sigh of relief.

The antidote pills refined by Meng Zhelan were indeed very effective, and so far no one has been poisoned by the miasma.

They began to spread out and carefully search their surroundings.

Some were turning over the grass, some were digging through the mounds of earth, and some were climbing nearby trees, trying to find clues from above.

Helpless, Meng Zhelan sat down to rest under a tree, but her eyes kept glancing at the unidentified object that was swaying in the distance.

She moved her body carefully, trying to conceal her true intentions by pretending to stretch.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, she quickly hid the mysterious object in her sleeve and continued to observe the skeleton as if nothing had happened.

The skeleton had clearly been there for a long time; its clothes had long since weathered into ashes, leaving only a pile of bones and a few pieces of tattered cloth.

Just then, the black wolf, who was not far away, noticed Meng Zhelan's actions and asked curiously, "Doctor Meng, have you figured out the cause of this person's death?"

Meng Zhelan was speechless, but she remained calm on the surface.

She gently shook her head and replied, "I don't know, I was just getting bored while waiting, so I was just looking around. You don't need to be so tense watching me; I can't escape your grasp anyway."

Black Wolf, somewhat embarrassed, scratched his head after hearing Meng Zhelan's words and explained, "I didn't mean anything by it; I was just simply curious."

Meng Zhelan smiled slightly and didn't say anything more.

She looked up at the sky and realized that it was getting dark.

"It's getting dark, let's hurry back, my stomach is growling." She said as she stood up.

Actually, what she really wanted was to get back to where she was and see the message Xiaoxi had left for her.

The handkerchief she hid was deliberately left by Xiaoxi, which means that Xiaoxi may already know where she is at this moment.

Thinking of this, Meng Zhelan's mood became somewhat anxious.

Black Wolf and his companions were so focused on finding the entrance to the treasure that they didn't notice it was getting dark. There were many wild beasts in the area that would come out to hunt at night.

"Go back first, come back tomorrow," Black Wolf instructed.
