Li Xi nodded slightly, her gaze wandering around the room as if searching for something.
Feng Monian noticed her actions and couldn't help but ask, "What are you looking for?"
Li Xi was silent for a moment, then said softly, "I don't know either, it just feels a little familiar here."
If what she saw in her dream was true, then she should have remembered this land.
Unfortunately, she is still unable to fully recall her lost memories.
After the original owner lost her memory, everything before the age of six seemed to have vanished into thin air.
However, she occasionally dreams of going back to the past. This may be a bodily instinct, an attempt to recover lost memories.
Seeing Li Xi's worried expression, Feng Monian couldn't help but feel concerned: "Why don't you tell me what happened in that dream? Two heads are better than one."
That makes some sense. She hasn't been in this era for very long, so naturally she doesn't understand many things.
"In my dreams, my parents and I often come here..."
After listening to Li Xi's account, Feng Monian pursed his lips, as if he was pondering some important question.
He frowned slightly and asked in a deep voice, "Logically, this house should belong to your parents. Since they say it was purchased for you, then the surrounding area should rightfully belong to you. Do you really have no recollection of the old man you met today?"
Li Xi frowned slightly, as if recalling something, and then slowly said, "I have a familiar feeling, but I'm not sure who he is. After my family suffered that tragedy, I became extremely cautious about anyone or anything related to them, and I dared not trust anyone easily."
Feng Monian nodded, understanding Li Xi's concerns. He gently took Li Xi's hand and comforted her softly.
Li Xi was immersed in her memories, and for a moment she couldn't tell whether the heart-wrenching feelings came from the original owner's memories or her own emotions.
Either way, such an experience is enough to make anyone feel indignant and grief-stricken.
She couldn't help but take a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.
Just then, Feng Monian walked over and gently covered her hand with his large hand.
The large palm completely enveloped her hand, as if wanting to transfer all its warmth and strength to her.
His action surprised Li Xi. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
Feng Monian simply gazed at her quietly, his eyes filled with deep concern.
"If you need me, I can face this with you." Feng Monian's voice was deep and firm, as if it were a promise to her.
Li Xi secretly withdrew his hand, cupped his hands and said, "Thank you in advance."
Feng Monian watched her little actions and a faint smile appeared on his lips: "Try to find out about that old man tomorrow and see if you can get some useful information out of him."
The two ate a little something and then decided to rest early.
They found a comfortable place to lie down and quickly fell asleep.
In the darkness not far away, an old man had been silently observing the two of them.
When he saw the candlelight in the courtyard gradually go out, the old man left, muttering something to himself.
The next morning, Li Xi got up very early.
The old man was bent over, meticulously sweeping the fallen leaves in the yard. His movements were slow but powerful.
"Uncle, let me help you." Li Xi stepped forward and picked up a broom from the side.
The old man looked up at Li Xi, his expression somewhat strange. He said softly, "Thank you very much."
The two began sweeping the fallen leaves in perfect unison. As Li Xi swept, she asked, "Uncle, do you get up this early every day?"
The old man nodded and replied, "Yes, I need less sleep as I get older."
"Uncle, do you live here all by yourself?" Li Xi asked him casually.
“Yes.” He answered with just one word.
"Where are your family members?" Li Xi continued to ask.
The old man stopped sweeping, his expression somewhat forlorn: "They're all gone..."
"I'm sorry, I was presumptuous." She was a little embarrassed, having brought up someone else's sad story.
The old man shook his head, indicating that she shouldn't worry about it. "Life and death are predestined, wealth and honor are determined by fate. When you get old, you take these things less seriously."
He picked up the broom again and continued sweeping the fallen leaves.
Just then, Feng Monian returned from outside, carrying a food box in his hand.
"Hey, Brother Feng, when did you leave?" She was a little surprised to see the food box in his hand.
Feng Monian smiled slightly, a hint of mystery in his eyes: "I just went to the city and bought some pastries. I thought you might like them, so I brought them back with me."
He gently placed the food box on the stone table, opened the lid, and revealed the delicate pastries inside.
The pastries have a delicate texture and a sweet taste, leaving a lingering aftertaste.
While enjoying their snacks, they also started chatting.
"Uncle, is that large rice paddy outside also yours? It looks like it's growing very well; you must have put a lot of effort into taking care of it, right?"
The old man smiled slightly, the wrinkles on his face like the marks of time, and slowly said, "My old body doesn't have the ability to do this. These are planted by tenant farmers nearby. I just rent the land to them and collect some rent."
"Oh? So all you have to do is sit at home and wait for the harvest?"
The old man shook his head, his eyes revealing a deep worry. "A good harvest is certainly a good thing, but it also depends on the weather. If there is a flood or drought, then there is nothing to rely on. Besides, the world is not peaceful, taxes are heavy, and it is hard for ordinary people."
"Uncle, you must be quite lonely living in such a big house by yourself." Li Xi thought of the days when she lived alone in her previous life.
The old man smiled again, as if he could see through Li Xi's thoughts. "Loneliness is inevitable, but you'll get used to it. This house may be big, but at least I have something to look forward to."
The persimmon trees in the distance are laden with fruit, their branches heavy with golden persimmons, resembling tiny lanterns. They sway gently in the breeze, releasing an enticingly sweet aroma.
The persimmons that had fallen to the ground had become soft and mushy, emitting a rich fruity aroma.
A little bird flew over, pecked at a persimmon that had fallen to the ground, and then flew away happily.
Li Xi looked up at the persimmons and felt it was a pity, so she said, "Uncle, I feel it's a shame that these persimmons have fallen. I wonder if I could pick some to make persimmon cakes?"
In her dream, she had seen the original owner's mother skillfully prepare this dish; the scene was vivid in her mind, and she could almost smell its enticing aroma. Therefore, she decided to try and bring this dream-like dish to life.
When the old man heard her plan, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but then he smiled gently and said, "Pick them as you like. It would be a real shame if these persimmons fell."
Feng Monian moved nimbly, leaping up the tree before her. Before long, his slats were laden with bright red persimmons. He looked down and asked, "Is that enough?"
