On the bustling street, a middle-aged man wandered aimlessly like a walking corpse.
His steps appeared unusually heavy and sluggish, as if he were carrying a heavy burden.
His eyes were empty and lifeless, as if his soul had been ripped out of his body, and he exuded no vitality whatsoever.
At this moment, he was like a soulless shell, wandering alone in the bustling city.
However, at that moment, a young girl quietly walked up to him.
Her voice was soft and melodious, like heavenly music, as she softly asked, "Honorable sir, did you just come from Ren'an Hall?"
Upon hearing the voice, the middle-aged man slowly raised his head, a look of confusion in his eyes.
He merely glanced at the girl indifferently and did not immediately respond to her question.
Instead, he took a deep breath, as if trying to dispel the endless gloom and despair deep within his heart.
The young woman keenly observed the subtle changes in the middle-aged man's emotions.
She pursed her lips slightly and continued, "I just happened to meet you at Ren'an Hall. May I ask, sir, are you searching for a miraculous elixir that can bring the dead back to life?"
The girl's words were like a sharp sword, piercing the softest corner of the middle-aged man's heart.
His body trembled slightly, but he quickly regained his composure.
Seeing that he remained noncommittal, the woman was not discouraged.
Instead, she continued in a calm tone: "My grandmother was once critically ill, and even Doctor Meng from Ren'an Hall was helpless. However, by chance, we met a miraculous doctor who gave my grandmother a medicine that miraculously improved her condition."
Today I went out to buy pastries for my grandmother and happened to run into you. I am deeply moved by your affection for your wife, and therefore I dare to recommend that renowned doctor to you; perhaps he can bring you a glimmer of hope.”
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged man became very excited, his voice slightly hoarse: "Young lady, can the miracle doctor you mentioned really bring people back to life?"
The young woman nodded gently: "I can't guarantee that I can save your wife, but that doctor's medical skills are indeed extraordinary, and the elixirs he has are truly miraculous. My grandmother is the best example."
The middle-aged man remained silent for a moment, as if weighing the pros and cons.
Finally, he raised his head, a resolute glint in his eyes: "Young lady, please tell me where that divine doctor is. No matter the outcome, I will give it a try."
"The divine healer lives in seclusion on Cuiyun Mountain in the suburbs. This is his address. If you want to go there, just follow the mountain path until you see a bamboo forest.
The middle-aged man bowed deeply: "Young lady, thank you for your help. No matter the outcome, I will always remember your kindness."
The young woman waved her hand gently: "No need. Meeting is fate. I hope your wife recovers soon."
The middle-aged man hurriedly hailed a horse-drawn carriage and headed towards the outskirts of the city.
After an unknown amount of time, the carriage finally passed through a dense forest and arrived at a lush bamboo grove.
The bamboo forest was lush and verdant, and the bamboo leaves swayed gently in the breeze, making a rustling sound.
The middle-aged man was overjoyed, knowing that the miracle doctor's residence was just ahead.
He hurriedly jumped off the carriage and walked through the bamboo forest.
Deep in the bamboo forest, a quaint little courtyard comes into view.
Although the courtyard is not luxurious, it exudes a sense of tranquility and peace.
The middle-aged man walked to the front of the small house and gently knocked on the door.
Before long, an old servant opened the door and asked in a hoarse voice, "Who are you looking for?"
The middle-aged man bowed slightly and replied respectfully, "I am a patient who has come from afar seeking medical treatment. I have heard that there is a divine healer living here, so I have come to seek his help."
A scrutinizing glint flashed in the old servant's eyes, but he didn't ask any further questions. He simply nodded and said, "The divine physician is here today. Please come with me."
The middle-aged man was overjoyed and quickly followed the old servant into the courtyard.
Inside the courtyard, flowers and plants flourished, and birds sang merrily, as if they were isolated from the world. They walked along a pebbly path and came to the door of a simple house.
The old servant knocked on the door three times cautiously. After hearing a response, he slowly pushed the door open and turned to the middle-aged man, gesturing, "The divine doctor is inside right now. Please go there yourself."
A flicker of gratitude flashed in the middle-aged man's eyes. He then took a deep breath and pushed open the door to enter.
Upon entering the room, the light was soft and not glaring, and an elderly man with white hair was intently taking the pulse of an old lady.
Although the room was a bit crowded, more than ten people were already waiting quietly there.
They spoke in hushed tones or prayed silently, all appearing exceptionally devout.
The middle-aged man then joined the last line. In front of him was a young mother holding a pale-faced child in her arms, her eyes filled with anxiety and unease.
After about two hours, only the middle-aged man remained in the room.
He let out a long sigh of relief; it was finally his turn. He blurted out, "Doctor, please save my wife, she..."
After the middle-aged man finished speaking, the white-haired old man nodded. "I understand. You can wait in the backyard. However, the medicinal herbs used in this divine medicine are extremely precious and limited in quantity, so the price is a bit high..."
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged man quickly said, "Doctor, money is not a problem. As long as you can save my wife, I will gladly give you half of my fortune."
A barely perceptible flicker of excitement crossed the white-haired old man's face, but he quickly regained his composure.
He said softly, "I have been traveling the world for many years, and money is not important to me. However, the collection of these medicinal herbs is indeed not easy, and charging some fees is only to compensate for the hardships involved."
The middle-aged man immediately bowed his head in respect and said, "Your insight is profound, doctor. I was simply ignorant."
The white-haired old man nodded, then stood up and said to the middle-aged man, "Go with the servant; someone has already made arrangements for you in the backyard."
The middle-aged man followed the servant to the backyard, where he saw a group of patients who had been treated by the miracle doctor gathered.
They were all quietly waiting for the next steps.
Everyone's face was filled with anticipation and trepidation, as if they would soon be reborn.
At this moment, an old man spoke to the middle-aged man: "You look healthy with a rosy complexion, not at all like someone who is sick! So why have you come here?"
"Alas, my wife has contracted an incurable disease. Someone told me there was a miracle doctor here, so I thought I'd come here to give it a try," the middle-aged man sighed.
"I see. But if one can truly be brought back to life, and all one's wealth can be regained, then money is nothing but an external thing." The old man nodded in understanding.
