Chapter 356 The Secret of the King of Liang

Just then, the sound of arguing came from not far away, and the voices sounded somewhat like those of the King of Liang.

Qin Xiaolin instructed the boatman to subtly approach the pleasure boat.

Li Xi and he were both highly skilled, so their hearing was naturally excellent.

The two listened intently.

On the pleasure boat, King Liang was arguing with a man.

"Didn't you say it was foolproof?" King Liang's voice was angry and anxious, especially jarring in the night.

"Your Highness, this...this really didn't expect..." The man was clearly flustered, his words were intermittent, he tried to explain but couldn't make sense of it.

Qin Xiaolin and Li Xi exchanged a glance, both seeing the confusion in each other's eyes.

"Do you know what I will do if this matter is exposed?" King Liang's voice was even lower and more threatening.

"Your Highness, please calm down. We...we will definitely find a way to make amends." The man was clearly frightened by the Prince of Liang's anger and quickly bowed his head to make a promise.

"Make amends? What amends do you have now?" Prince Liang sneered, his voice filled with disdain. "If the Emperor finds out about this, your whole family will be executed!"

Upon hearing this, Qin Xiaolin and Li Xi both realized that the Prince of Liang was probably plotting something.

"Alright, I don't want to listen to your nonsense anymore." King Liang waved his hand, his voice full of impatience. "Go and do something for me now, and make sure it's done cleanly and efficiently, without leaving a trace."

Their voices grew softer and softer until Li Xi and Qin Xiaolin could no longer hear what they were saying.

Not long after, the man hurriedly left the pleasure boat.

Seeing this, Li Xi secretly followed, while Qin Xiaolin stayed behind to keep an eye on King Liang.

The night was as dark as ink, and a gentle breeze swept across the river, carrying a hint of coolness, but Li Xi's heart was burning with passion.

The man walked through a dimly lit street and finally stopped in front of a secluded house. He looked around to make sure no one was following him before gently knocking on the door.

The door slowly opened, and a short, sleazy-looking servant poked his head out. Upon seeing that it was a man, he quickly ushered him inside.

Li Xi hid in the shadows, secretly wondering who the owner of the mansion was and what kind of relationship he had with the Prince of Liang.

Qin Xiaolin waited quietly on the pleasure boat, his gaze never leaving Prince Liang. Prince Liang sat at the bow, drinking alone, his expression seemingly forlorn. Qin Xiaolin knew that Prince Liang must have something to hide to be so uneasy.

Time ticked by, and Li Xi waited patiently in the shadows. Finally, the man emerged from the courtyard, looking hurried, as if he had something urgent to attend to. Li Xi didn't dare delay and quickly followed him.

The man walked through the streets and alleys and arrived at a market in the city. He went into a pharmacy and asked the shopkeeper something. Li Xi followed closely behind, standing outside the door eavesdropping.

"Shopkeeper, are my orders ready?" the man asked in a low voice.

"Don't worry, everything is ready." The shopkeeper's reply was unusually cautious. "This medicine is colorless and odorless. If mixed into the wine, no one will be able to detect it."

Hearing this, Li Xi was startled. She quickly moved closer, wanting to hear more clearly.

"Alright, wrap it up for me." The man took out a silver ingot from his pocket and placed it on the table. "Remember, if word of this gets out, watch your head!"

The shopkeeper nodded quickly and handed a packet of medicine to the man. The man took the medicine, turned around, and left the pharmacy.

Li Xi watched the man's departing figure, lost in thought. She decided to follow him first.

At that moment, he mounted his horse and galloped away.

Li Xi was startled and immediately flew after him, but his legs were no match for a fast horse, and he quickly fell behind the man.

She then summoned the golden eagle.

The golden eagle spread its wings and soared into the sky, its sharp eyes fixed on the figure of the man below.

They quickly caught up with the man, and saw him talking to the guards at the city gate. Soon after, the guards secretly let him out of the city.

"Who is this person?" Li Xi wondered, but she didn't want to alert him. Instead, she instructed the golden eagle to lower its altitude so as not to be spotted by the man.

After riding his horse out of the city, the man traveled along a side road, seemingly intentionally avoiding the main road. Li Xi followed closely behind on his golden eagle.

After leaving the city, the man traveled westward at full speed, changing horses at every post station, and continued westward without stopping.

"Where is he going?" Li Xi wondered.

After a day and a night of tracking, they finally arrived at a small town.

After entering the city, the man secretly slipped into the city under the cover of night.

"Yancheng? Isn't that where the floods happened?" Li Xi wondered. "Why would he come here?"

She decided to continue observing the man to see what his true intentions were.

In the darkness of night, Li Xi rode the golden eagle, circling above Yancheng, searching for the man's whereabouts.

She noticed the man enter an inn, so she had the golden eagle land on a nearby rooftop while she quietly slipped into the inn.

The inn was brightly lit and noisy. Li Xi carefully weaved through the crowd, searching for the man's figure.

She came to a secluded corner and found the man sitting alone at a table with a pot of wine in front of him, pouring himself a drink.

Li Xi found a seat and sat down, pretending to casually observe the man.

The man's expression was somewhat solemn, and he kept glancing out the window, as if waiting for something.

Just then, the inn door was pushed open, and a man dressed as a waiter walked in.

He was holding a plate steadily in his hand, on which were placed several small dishes of delicate side dishes.

"Sir, your side dishes are here. Please enjoy." The waiter said as he gently placed the plates on the table.

Just then, the man suddenly became nervous.

She quickly stuffed a bulging purse into the boy's hand, then put the medicine packet she had just bought from the pharmacy into his arms, and whispered a few words into his ear.

After saying that, the waiter hurriedly left.

The man then turned around and went back upstairs, seemingly to rest for a while.

Li Xi quietly followed the waiter and watched him walk into a private room, feeling a little puzzled.

After about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, the waiter came out of the private room.

He looked around, his eyes darting about, and only after confirming that no one was paying attention to him did he breathe a sigh of relief.

Immediately afterwards, he tiptoed and carefully made his way to the stairs, afraid of making the slightest sound.

Meanwhile, Li Xi was hiding in a dark corner, quietly observing the surroundings, trying to see who was in the area.

Time passed by, and about half an hour had gone by.

Suddenly, a series of noisy footsteps came from downstairs, accompanied by faint sounds of flattery and fawning.
