Chapter 25

Three corpses were burning quietly in the alley. The smell was really unpleasant, but Lin Man no longer felt this insignificant discomfort.

Although both battles ended quickly, they exhausted her greatly, especially the drain of her spiritual energy, which made her feel dizzy.

She rested anxiously for a while, stood up and poured the last bit of gasoline on the zombie, burning it. Then she pulled out the kitchen knife, with her hands covered in dried blood and the smell of gasoline, and asked Guan Guan to pour some water. She squatted on the ground and slowly washed them.

She used two wooden sticks, a kitchen knife, a machete, a pot lid, a hoe, and two large stones. In the end, the only thing she could recycle was the kitchen knife. She even threw away the hoe because she didn't want to use something that had touched zombies to hoe the ground.

In fact, she didn't even really want this kitchen knife, but who made her lack such a weapon right now?

She washed the kitchen knife and roasted it over the fire to disinfect it. She was worried that the smell of blood here would attract something else. Who knew if there was another zombie in this city?

So she left the place without waiting for the bodies to be burned.

Lin Man was too tired. She had been on the road all the time and had hardly rested. After a life-and-death struggle, she was extremely exhausted both physically and mentally, so she found a secluded place and entered the space.

Unlike the scorching heat outside, although the light in the space was bright, it was also a little cool. Lin Man took off his clothes that were also splashed with some blood stains, scooped water from the big bucket to wash himself, and waded into the dirty water directly into the ground, where the spiritual energy would wash away the dirt.

Guan Guanben was eagerly waiting for her. When he saw her come in and take off her clothes to take a shower, she was so bold and unconcealed that he was stunned for a moment. Her whole white body suddenly turned a faint pink. She chirped and flapped her little wings in panic to hide in the wooden house.

Lin Man looked at it strangely. Is this guy shy?

Only then did she realize a question: although it was formed by the condensation of spiritual energy, could it also have gender differences?

However, she had nothing to be shy about when facing a non-human being. She quickly wiped off the water droplets left by the divine killing and changed into clean clothes.

Well, she only had five sets of clothes, even fewer originally, but because she was going out, everyone raised money to make her three new sets of clothes. The people in those mountains were extremely short of supplies, and there was nothing they didn't need.

Lin Manxin thought that all the shops he had walked along the way had been emptied, but there were still some curtain fabrics hanging. If he couldn't get any fabric before returning, it would be fine to just take some curtain fabrics back with him. Even though they were all very dirty, couldn't they be used after washing?

As she thought about it, she sat down on the relatively dry land, not worrying about the ground being dirty. Anyway, whenever she rested in the space, she would sit or lie on the ground like this. Now she just wanted to take a nap and didn't even want to eat, although she was very hungry.

The little chicken peeked out from behind the wooden door. Seeing that Lin Man was about to rest, he pushed the door open and walked over with a bag of things. "Here, this is for you."

Lin Man took a look and saw that it was a quilt packed in a bag. It was bulging and looked completely new.

She reached out and pressed it; it was very soft.

"Give me?"

"Well, I just felt sorry for you sleeping on the ground." The little chick said proudly, refusing to admit that he felt sorry for her because she had to sleep on the ground after such a hard fight.

"I only have this one quilt, no more. You have to farm well to repay me!" it added.

Lin Man smiled: "Okay, after I have a good rest, I will work hard on farming." She opened the zipper, and the quilt inside suddenly expanded out. Lin Man touched it and it was like a ball of cotton. She had never slept on such a soft quilt, and she was reluctant to spread it directly on the ground.

But she also remembered something: "I almost forgot, I can't sleep in space."

Whenever she falls asleep in the space, she will absorb spiritual energy, sucking away the spiritual energy that should be used to control the crops in the field, and also causing the crops in the field to grow poorly.

Guan Guan looked at her with his dark eyes and said, "I'll make an exception and let you sleep with me today."

Lin Man couldn't help but touch it. The soft touch made her squint her eyes happily: "It's so nice of you to take care of me."

Guan Guan's body turned pink again, and he jumped far away: "Just talk, don't touch me!"

Lin Man said, "I'll just lie down for a while. I won't sleep. When I've rested enough, I'll go out and find a safe place to sleep."

Guan Guan stared at her, looking very unhappy and conflicted. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said—if he had teeth, he would say, “Come with me!”

Lin Man was curious. Seeing it turn around and walk towards the cabin, she opened her mouth in surprise. That place was its private understanding and very precious. All its treasures were in it. Lin Man would usually be careful not to get close to it.

“Guard…”

"Hold on, hurry up and catch up!"

When the wooden door was opened, Lin Man found that the house was not as small as it looked from the outside. The space inside was actually quite large. What she saw was a huge kitchen with all kinds of pots and pans, spatulas, frying pans, knives and so on hanging on the wall, and all kinds of seasonings of different heights lined up against the wall. There were also boxes, one of which was uncovered, and Lin Man saw that it contained the sweet potatoes she had been taking care of.

There was also a large long table, on which were placed the foods that Guan Guan had asked him to choose before.

Bowl after bowl, plate after plate, some are repeated, but most are different, it's enough for a banquet!

Lin Man was stunned and felt even hungrier.

Then she withdrew her gaze and looked straight ahead. Well, this is the chef's workshop, so she can't be so rude!

"You can't touch anything here, okay?" Guan Guan turned around and said to her seriously.

"Yeah!" Lin Man nodded seriously. "I won't touch anything here before I get your consent."

I won't agree to that.

Guan Guan thought so but did not say it out loud. In fact, it was not sure whether it would agree in the future, because at present, it seemed that the rules it set would always be broken again and again because of this mortal.

There are two rooms outside the kitchen, both with closed doors.

"That's the grocery room, you can't go in there either." Guan Guan pointed to one of the doors and said.

Lin Man immediately thought that Guan Guan’s collection should be in this store room.

She continued to nod in assurance.

Guan Guan pushed open another door. It was a room of only five or six square meters. There were no windows, but it was very bright, and it was a soft brightness. The whole room was moderately hot and cold. As soon as Lin Man came in, he felt very comfortable, the kind of comfort that made people want to sleep.

There was only a wooden bed in the room, with a large nest made of branches and hay on it. It was obviously Guan Guan's nest.

Guan Guan jumped onto the wooden bed and carried the nest to the ground: "Just sleep here. It's isolated from the outside world, so you can't absorb any spiritual energy."

"How can this be so embarrassing? This is where you sleep, right?"

Guan Guan glanced at her and said, "If I wasn't worried that you would fall asleep while lying outside and absorb all the spiritual energy, I wouldn't let you sleep here."

But she said she would leave the space and find a place to sleep in a while.

Is this little chick worried that he will encounter danger outside?

Lin Man smiled and didn't say anything. She just thought so.

"Don't think about anything weird, bring your quilt in quickly and go to sleep!" Guan Guan said as he walked out quickly. It was obvious that it was not used to doing such good deeds, and the whole chicken exuded an awkward feeling.

Lin Man went out to bring the cup in, and saw the chick had crawled into the cornfield that was about to be harvested. It was a small, fluffy white thing and soon disappeared from sight.

She smiled and her spirit was completely relaxed. She drank some water, then took a sweet potato from the pot next to the bucket, peeled it and ate it. Then she went back to the house and spread the quilt on the wooden board. The quilt was very large, two meters wide, and it was enough for her to use half of it to lie on and the other half to cover herself.

Lin Man lay down and sighed comfortably, his eyes actually feeling a little hot. Such a new and comfortable quilt, such a cozy environment, such a solid and safe space...

There is also delicious food, and there is no need to worry about running out of food...

She had never enjoyed this since she could remember.

She has so much to take care of.

After she fell asleep, the little white chick quietly slipped into the crack of the door again. As soon as it came in, the spiritual energy on its body was sucked away. It walked back and forth beside the bed with a sad face, then jumped onto the bed and stood beside Lin Man's cheek for a while. After its body shrank a circle, it ran outside and closed the door tightly.

Lin Man slept very soundly and deeply. When he woke up, he felt extremely refreshed. He rolled around in the quilt twice and didn't want to get up.

Suddenly she paused and raised her hand. How did she feel spiritual energy again? It wasn't much, but it was there. It was also because of this spiritual energy that she felt particularly relaxed.

But didn’t the spiritual energy run out before?

She got up from the bed, put on her straw sandals, and walked out of the wooden house. The crops in the space were still intact and had not been sucked dry by her. She shouted, "Take care of it."

Guan Guan slowly emerged from the cornfield: "Finally awake?"

Lin Man stared at it. It seemed to be a little thinner than before she fell asleep.

"Guan Guan, did I absorb your spiritual energy?"

The little chicken stiffened for a moment, then said nonchalantly, "Well, after you fell asleep, I went in to get something, and you sucked some of my spiritual energy away."

Lin Man wanted to speak again, but it continued, "It's been night outside, and it's morning again. Don't you still have things to do? It's time to go out."

"oh."

"Also, the cornfield is no longer producing spiritual energy. It's almost overripe."

"Then I'll harvest the corn first." Lin Man said as he went to the field, picked the corn, and pulled out the corn stalks.

The hoe was gone, but the soil was quite dry and there was no place to get water, so Lin Man just left it there to grow. The last batch of corn had almost dried up during this period, and she had also set aside space for them to bask in the sun. Now she rubbed off some corn kernels and sowed them in the empty land next to it.

Lin Man gave all the harvested corn to Guan Guan, without keeping any for himself. Guan Guan looked at him, left more than ten for her, and took the rest without hesitation.

"Give me the corn stalks too, and bury the leaves."

"Okay." Lin Man didn't ask what it wanted the corn stalks for. He peeled off the leaves one by one and buried them in the soil. He inspected the rest of the land and then left the space.

After all this busy work, it was already noon outside.
