Chapter 7 Dream
Maybe it was because of You Zhuo’s fangs that An Lang had another nightmare that night.
In the dream, he was wrapped by two female insects and hid behind the curtains.
The room was filled with gurgling sounds, mixed in with the sound of water that came from an unknown source.
An Lang felt like he had a high fever, his breathing was rapid and heavy with his snoring.
The female insect standing next to him kindly lifted the heavy curtains for him. He eagerly stuck his head out to see the overlapping figures in the room.
The contrast between their skin colors, one black and one white, is extremely strong.
An Lang's head grew even more dizzy, and a strong burning sensation stung his throat. He felt as if his sight was a camera with built-in blur, firmly locked on the two people in the room.
The black-skinned man caressed the other person's fair cheek affectionately, and they embraced each other and whispered to each other as if kissing.
An Lang felt that their posture was a little strange.
He was puzzled. Which male insect could have such a long neck?
The next moment, the dark-skinned man turned sideways, and An Lang saw that where the slender fingers were originally turned into a black blade.
He was still holding the white boy's head, but there was no foundation below his neck.
As the man moved, the headless body fell down as if it had lost its support.
The gushing blood even splashed on Anlang's face.
A romantic affair turned into a crime scene.
He screamed in terror, no longer caring about hiding, and crawled towards the door, ordering the two female insects beside him to kill the murderer.
The two of them didn't move.
The final view is of a pair of sharp, huge fangs.
"grass!!!"
An Lang suddenly opened his eyes and met a pair of dark red eyes.
Before he could wake up from the fear brought by the nightmare, he screamed in fear again.
"Your Highness!"
The light was turned on.
Lan Xiu's frightened and worried look came into his sight.
The pair of red eyes that looked cold and evil in the darkness were now sparkling, looking like a harmless little rabbit.
"Oh, it's you..." An Lang finally caught his breath and wiped his face. "Sorry for the nightmare."
In order to treat Lan Xiu's glands, An Lang followed the doctor's advice and moved him into his own room.
Anyway, he had lived in a dormitory in high school, so having an extra bed in the room wouldn't have much of an impact on him.
Lan Xiu didn't say much. He brought An Lang a glass of water.
An Lang noticed that he was wearing a silver bracelet on his slender wrist.
"This bracelet is quite beautiful."
He said casually, and saw Lan Xiu shyly gathered his sleeves.
"Go to bed quickly, it's still early." An Lang urged Lan Xiu back to bed and reached out to turn off the light.
After a while, he fell into sleep again.
Lan Xiu stood silently beside his bed.
He touched the silver bracelet on his wrist and looked at the male insect sleeping soundly on the bed with an unclear expression.
After a while, a slight sound came from next door.
I guess Zhong Tao has been woken up by the noise just now.
He returned to his bed, his red eyes lost in the darkness.
——
Lan Xiu is an extremely obedient and timid child.
During the day, he worked tirelessly to go to class with An Lang. Even if he didn't understand much, he took notes seriously. After returning to the palace in the afternoon, he took the initiative to take on the cleaning work.
Thanks to him, there were several fewer waiters in Anlang Palace.
He really didn't like seeing pairs of glowing eyes when he turned a corner.
"Am I some scary-looking bug? Why hasn't Lan Xiu come closer to me after all these days?"
An Lang was spinning a pen with one hand and supporting his head with the other.
Zhong Tao, who was still arranging the bookshelves, replied, "Your Highness is a pure-blooded male insect, and is also extremely handsome. It is understandable that ordinary female insects dare not look directly at His Highness."
"Zhong Tao, why do I feel like you are just being perfunctory?"
"I am terrified."
The little red-eyed bug who was sweeping fallen leaves in the courtyard was holding a broom almost as tall as him, sweeping from the east to the west of the yard, back and forth, but refused to come closer to the door.
Because the ground was covered with fallen leaves, his movements became very obvious.
It’s just that the child who was sweeping the floor with his head down didn’t notice it.
An Lang, who had prepared pastries for him, saw that Lan Xiu didn't come towards him for a long time, so he simply walked over to Xiao Chong in his wooden clogs.
The little bug, which was not even as tall as his chest, looked down at the clogs that appeared in his field of vision and was so frightened that he dared not move. He looked like he wanted to run away but didn't dare, and just held the broom tighter.
An Lang couldn't help but sigh when he saw him looking like a quail.
The child was so honest that he couldn't even pretend to be like that. He didn't even dare to pretend to sweep the leaves and pretend not to see him.
"Look up, little boy." A clear voice sounded.
The child with thick bangs raised his head in panic and felt something soft on his lips.
He subconsciously clenched his teeth.
"Don't choke." the voice said again.
A sweet taste wafted through his tongue, and Lan Xiu belatedly realized that An Lang had fed him a piece of pastry.
"...Thank you... Your Highness."
Hearing the child's voice as soft as a mosquito's hum, An Lang raised his hand and touched the child's head.
The body under his hand suddenly trembled, and after a while it slowly relaxed from the tense state.
An Lang pretended not to know. He squatted down and looked directly into the child's bloodshot eyes: "It's okay, you're welcome."
"Lan Xiu, don't be afraid, I won't hurt you again."
The blood-red pupils moved, and then his eyelids drooped even lower, and his thick bangs concealed his expression.
Half a month of peace passed like this, until Teacher El dropped a new bomb.
"The Star Beast Entity Identification class was originally scheduled for next month, but the weather warmed up too quickly this year, and many Star Beasts laid eggs early, so we're heading to the new warm zone tomorrow."
"Your task is to take close-up photos of the star beast eggs. The more types you take photos of, the higher your score will be," said Teacher El.
A female insect assistant teacher duly pulled up a map on the screen and circled it with a laser pointer. "The actual combat location is only in the Xinwen District. You're not allowed to cross Fengwei Mountain. Over there is 'Wuyin'. If you're not afraid of death, you can go there."
"Don't worry, there's a light wall above 'Boundless', so it's not easy to get in." Teacher El saw the male insects' unhappy expressions and quickly comforted them. "Although the star beasts in the new warm zone are not very aggressive, they have a strong sense of territory during the breeding season."
"While we regard their eggs as a source of nutrients, star beasts also regard males as the best supplement for their larvae. So, male beasts must control their pheromones. Be careful if you attract a large number of star beasts." Teacher El curled his eyes. He seemed a little excited when he said this, as if he hoped to see such a scene.
An Lang felt a chill on his back. He suddenly realized that a race that was extremely obsessed with strength would not only have extremely obsessed females, but their male insects were also warlike in nature.
Those ordinary male insects who look spoiled and delicate are only used as breeding machines by the female insects because they lack the ability.
The real aristocratic male insects also believe in elite education and the law of the jungle.
Only a small number of male insects who have proven their abilities, such as Teacher El, can have autonomy over their own lives.
What An Lang didn't know was that allowing males to come into contact with star beasts and receive training was only a small achievement after the new emperor implemented new policies for many years. Before the new emperor unified the old Seer Dynasty and the Federation, the status of male insects was at two extremes.
In the old Seer Dynasty, male insects were held in high esteem; in the chaotic Federation, male insects were kept in captivity and were bought, sold, and used at will.
The opening of this course not only allows male insects to get training, but more importantly, it allows male insects to have more contact with female insects during actual combat.
When An Lang stepped onto the starship, many red, green and yellow eyes suddenly locked onto him. An Lang was 100% sure that this was another incident of his adopted father's doing.
——In addition to the ten bamboo throwers who all went, about twenty more were selected from the remaining female insects who responded to the call.
The main focus is to cast a wide net.
Teacher El and the female insect assistant circled the range of their actual combat on the map and repeatedly emphasized that they must not get close to the infinite area.
There were still three hours to go before reaching Xinwen District. An Lang took Lan Xiu back to his room. As soon as they entered the room, Lan Xiu took out the food that Zhong Tao had prepared for His Highness from the large backpack he had been carrying on his back and carefully placed it on a porcelain plate.
"Lan Xiu, do you know what the 'Boundless' area is? Why do they all act so scared?" An Lang asked as he invited Lan Xiu to sit down.
Since Zhong Tao did not accompany An Lang on this trip, his channels for obtaining information became much narrower.
Lan Xiu's hand trembled as he was mixing the tea, and his red pupils constricted, as if he had seen something extremely terrifying.
But when he calmed down, he saw that the black tea was about to overflow from the cup.
The scene that just flashed by seemed like an illusion to him.
He quickly stopped and explained to An Lang, "Your Highness, the 'Boundless' area houses many high-level star beasts. Zerg that have committed serious crimes will be thrown into the 'Boundless' area as live feed."
The 'Boundless' area is a place that is familiar to all the noble Zerg. They have all come here to watch performances to some extent.
The Zerg's technology is highly civilized, but their entertainment methods are quite primitive and barbaric.
This was their equivalent of the Colosseum.
"Your Highness... haven't you come to see me before?" Lan Xiu asked cautiously.
An Lang scratched his face with his index finger: "I forgot a lot of things after I had a fever."
Lan Xiu was silent, with no expression on his face. Not much light entered his red pupils, which were dim, like solidified blood.
"Your Highness has changed a lot compared to before." He handed the teacup to An Lang and said softly, "I heard that your favorite thing in the past was to go to the Colosseum to watch a play."
The core has been changed here, can it be the same?
An Lang always felt that Lan Xiu's response was a bit abrupt, as if something was about to break out of that timid shell.
But he didn't think much about it. Time travel was his biggest secret. He laughed it off and said, "Really? Maybe it's because of amnesia!"
Lan Xiu didn't say anything else, just lowered his eyes obediently.
