Chapter 73: Diverting the trouble
Behind several light screens, a group of instructors had complicated expressions.
"Instructor Yang, do you really want to change the rules like this?" an instructor asked. "This Lins is too reckless!"
Yang Li replied, "Principal Bai said it's rare to see such an interesting little guy."
“…”
"Principal Bai also said that the army is the place to teach female insects to behave themselves, not school."
"And the new rule targeting Lins and the others doesn't look good. Who agreed to it?" Yang Li asked.
As examiners, third-year students have great power to modify the rules, but these rules need to be approved by the instructors before they can be implemented.
An instructor checked the system modification records and replied, "It's Instructor Arthur."
"What's the reason for passing?"
"As a military woman who has served in combat, Ashley needs to be restricted. Otherwise, it would be unfair to the new students."
"Wouldn't it be better if he just disqualified Ashley?" Yang Li said gravely. "Ashley is already wearing a suppression ring, so his strength is already somewhat reduced. Furthermore, he even had a private battle with Ashley last night."
"Instructor Yang, Arthur is a survivor of the Coker War." The instructor who had a good relationship with Arthur said. They were both female soldiers, so they naturally knew why Arthur hated Ashley.
"The Empire has investigated thoroughly and Ashley has committed no crime."
"But it's true that he killed an entire team." Arthur's voice came from outside the door, his yellow eyes filled with gloom.
——
Lins looked at the new task and turned to Ashley, saying, "I didn't expect they actually agreed."
"I was just trying to muddy the waters," Lins said, "to trip up the seniors who were targeting us."
"Now we have to be busy again."
Lins sighed: "Senior Ashley will help me, right?"
"Um."
Ashley is always concise.
He stood behind Lins and released all the female insects tied to the tree.
The forty or so female insects that were put down all had red faces. They stood around Lightan, and none of them dared to step forward.
After a while, a female insect came forward. She had a tuft of gray hair at the back of her head. "Your Excellency, we will always fight for you."
"What do you want?"
Lightan glanced at the group of female insects and said, "I need a place to rest."
"The only place around here where you can rest is the tower," said a female insect.
"Then let's take the tower back first!"
The crowd was excited and had spontaneously set goals. They looked at Ashley and Lins with burning eyes.
Lins: “…”
"I think I know why the Zerg can become the race that dominates the universe."
He said softly.
Amazing cohesion and terrifying centripetal force.
They are not as scheming as humans, and protecting and fighting for male insects seems to be an instinct.
"Take the tower first." Lins nodded. "The instructors won't interfere."
He took a branch and drew a plan of the town on the ground.
"I remember they were guarding..."
The other female insects have not yet entered the town and cannot provide more accurate information.
"I can go scouting." A female insect stepped forward. "I'm from the dragonfly tribe."
Dragonflies have very developed compound eyes.
"There is a long-range gun on the observation tower." Lins rejected his suggestion. Flying over for reconnaissance at this time would be a waste of time.
"Blind spot." Ashley, standing behind Lins, suddenly used a branch to outline two fan-shaped areas, and then quickly circled the area where the guards were. "Avoid it."
"Did you go there yesterday?" Lins raised his eyebrows.
"Looking for you."
Then he was discovered by Arthur and started fighting.
Lins stopped talking. He pulled Ashley and asked him to take two steps forward. He stood aside and Ashley used branches to outline two routes on the plan.
The first route runs through several guard posts.
The end point of the second line is where some of the eliminated freshmen are "detained".
Ashley pointed to the first route with a branch: "Me."
Then he pointed to the second one: "You guys."
He had no intention of explaining further, and without paying attention to the expressions of the other female insects, he walked straight towards the town.
Lins had no choice but to explain: "Half of the insects will go to rescue the eliminated members, and the other half will stay to protect His Excellency the Male Insect."
"How can he, a bug, do that?" a freshman asked worriedly as he watched Ashley go away.
"Haven't you seen that guy's match videos?" another bug took over. "Don't worry, I feel like we're in a good position to be on the same team with that guy."
In fact, Ashley's actions also perfectly illustrate what it means that all fear comes from insufficient firepower.
In his eyes, the third-year guards were not even worth mentioning.
The moment the female insect on the watchtower discovered the enemy attack, it was too late. The thin spider silk gently touched his throat, but with great force, it lifted his entire insect up.
He was horrified to see huge walking legs appear in the shadows.
The third grader had no doubt that if Ashley wanted to, the spider silk would cut off his head in an instant.
Several freshmen from the rescue team saw a group of third-year students being beaten to a pulp by female spiders.
The huge net that covered the sky seemed to rise from the ground in an instant, tightly trapping several winged female insects that were chasing them.
In an instant, white spider silk spread everywhere.
The whole small town seemed to have become a giant spider's nest.
But the path they were moving forward was very clean, and these spider webs kept all the enemies out of the web.
"Fuck, is this what it feels like to cheat?"
"It feels so good to hug your thighs!"
Lins continued running along the route towards the "cell" without stopping.
Rex spread his wings and followed: "You guy! You were so cold just now!"
Lins's voice was carried by the wind as he ran: "Sorry, I couldn't recognize you because your face was blocked."
"You're talking nonsense!" Rex cursed angrily.
They soon arrived in front of the "cell".
The four senior students had already aimed their guns at the sky.
A blue flame suddenly shot up.
The guards even turned on their wind guns and pointed them in their direction.
The spider web was extremely flammable and they were instantly engulfed in flames.
"Are these guys serious?!" Rex cursed, "Why do I feel like we're just like the sandworms you burned to death that night?"
"Haha." Lins laughed, "I can withstand more fire than it."
"Stop laughing, my wings are on fire!"
Lins threw something forward, and a fire dragon extended forward in the direction of his finger and suddenly jumped onto the guard.
It's spider silk!
He used spider silk to direct the fire to the cell located upwind!
"Oh, wooden houses catch fire so easily."
His voice was very special and pleasant to the ear, but although it was a sunny and vigorous voice, the insects heard a sense of meanness in it.
He wrapped the "cell" twice with spider silk, how could it not catch fire?
The wooden door, which was given special attention, caught fire first.
Lins raised his voice: "The prison is on fire. This is the perfect time to escape."
With two creaking sounds, the wooden door of the cell was kicked open, and dozens of freshmen rushed out like wild horses with prolapsed anus.
He knocked down a third-year student who was still holding on to the door.
"Ouch." Lins gathered strength on his toes and grabbed the third-grader by the collar to prevent him from falling into the sea of fire.
"Thank you—" The third grader hadn't even finished expressing his gratitude.
Lins readily took off his yellow armband and said, "Thank you."
He took the opportunity to pull the weapon from his arms and said, "If you set fire to the mountain, you will be imprisoned for life."
"This one is for me."
"You%8#%*" the third grader cursed out a bunch of garbled words, but unfortunately his armband had been torn off and he was out of the game and could not move anymore, otherwise it would be a violation.
He sat on the ground dejectedly when he felt his terminal vibrate.
[Eliminated freshmen, guards, please help quickly]
"Damn it." He cursed and resigned himself to starting to put out the fire with a water gun.
——
By the time Lins brought Lightan down from the mountain, the other female insects had almost cleaned up the battlefield.
Except for the wooden building that served as a prison cell, which was burned quite badly, the rest were just blackened. The tallest tower and the building where the instructors lived were almost unscathed.
Only a few instructors were coughing when they came out.
Smoked.
"Good afternoon, Instructor Yang!" Lins raised his hand to greet him, but Yang Li glared at him unhappily.
Another instructor was reporting the damage to his supplies: "The respirator filters are 70% damaged. We have to evacuate the oasis early."
Hearing this, Yang Li glared at him again.
Lins felt no guilt at all. He was just kidding. It wasn't him who started the fire.
Rex, who stayed in town to clean up the fire scene, approached Lins and said in a low voice, "The replacement filters for the respirators are in the building where the new students are detained. That's the only building upwind."
The third grader was standing there guarding with a wind gun, but he was unexpectedly defeated by Lins' spider silk.
"Hmm..." Lins was silent for a moment, "Do you need me to compensate you?"
He has no money in the Zerg.
Rex choked: "That's not what I said."
"But we'll definitely send the male insect away first. After smelling the white-eye flower, the female insect will go into false estrus, becoming only irritable, aggressive, and a little stupid. But when she sees a real male insect after false estrus, it's a different story." Rex sighed, "Just prepare to be hated to death by the other insects."
"You better think about what to do. Not many people know about this bug right now. I only heard about it when I was assigned to clean that building." Rex sighed, "You're definitely going to become the public enemy of the whole school now."
"Not really. There are only first and third graders. I'm probably the public enemy of half the school at most." Lins shrugged.
"I'm not kidding!" Rex's neck turned red with anger. "It's hard to explain to a female like you. Do you know how much we long for contact with male insects?!"
"Where's Ashley? I have to get back to him before I get assassinated by you bitches."
"Lins, you're doomed!!!" Rex took a deep breath, "Ashley was just here..."
"But his combat power is incredible. One bug can take on hundreds of them alone. Is this an S+ ability?"
Lightan had already learned the situation from Instructor Yang. He waved at Lins: "Lins!"
Lins walked over and saw Lightan's drooping blue eyes: "The instructor said I have to return to the main planet tomorrow morning."
"I'm not waiting for the mission to be won yet!"
Lins scratched his hair. He didn't know if it was because of the dust, but his scalp felt a little itchy.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Lightan asked with concern.
Lins shook his head: "I feel a little sad to say goodbye to you, sir."
Such a convenient excuse can no longer be used.
"Then you must come to the main planet to find me! Come find me when you get back to school!"
"Yeah." Lins nodded. He quite liked this little male insect.
"Then I'm going to go take a shower first. I feel really uncomfortable covered in dust." Lightan turned and entered the tower. "There will be a small celebration party tonight to celebrate our stage victory."
This is what Lightan requested. Today was so much fun and he hasn’t had enough.
"Okay, Your Excellency Lightan."
After Lightan left, Rex appeared behind Lins like a ghost.
"You! You actually scratched your hair in front of Lord Male Insect!!!" Rex saw it clearly from behind. This guy must have an itchy head because he didn't wash it!
"Don't bother to stink me!!!" Rex roared, "Look at you, you haven't showered in a few days, don't you know how smelly you are—eh?"
"You smell so good." Rex felt a little dizzy for a moment. "It must be because I was so close to Lord Lightan just now. Ahhhhh, I will kill you!!!"
He even had the perverse intention of getting closer to Lins to smell the real male insect pheromone, but was immediately slapped away by Lins.
"Homophobia means being in the closet?" Lins rejected it. "I have Ashley."
“Quack—”
The word "get out" was said too quickly, and a huge quack resounded through the sky.
"Are you from the frog tribe?"
"I kill you!!!"
