Chapter Fifty-Four Visiting Chu Lin

Chapter Fifty-Four Visiting Chu Lin

It wasn't mealtime, so the noodle shop wasn't crowded. We found a seat and sat down. Maybe because we'd talked so much earlier, we ended up being rather silent while waiting for our noodles.

"Let's take a picture together to commemorate our friendship." With that, Yan Yan took out her phone, and we put our heads together and took a picture.

Perhaps to pass the time, we ate very slowly.

"Would you like noodles or fried rice?" The door opened, and the owner greeted them warmly.

"Looking for someone." The cold voice was so familiar. I looked up and saw Chu Zhen staring at me as he walked towards me.

"Good luck to you. I'm leaving now. Let's talk this out." Huang Yanyan picked up her bag and left, leaving me here. How did Chu Zhen know I was here? Did Huang Yanyan do it on purpose?

After Huang Yanyan left, Chu Zhen sat down opposite me.

"Finished eating?"

"Um!"

"Then come with me somewhere~" Before I could agree, Chu Zhen grabbed my hand and led me out the door.

The car was going very fast, and it seemed to be carrying air. I held onto the handle tightly the whole way; I had just finished eating and almost threw up.

Soon, we arrived at the orphanage. It had been a long time since I'd seen Chu Lin, and I wondered if he'd been adopted yet. I figured in two years I could adopt him too. As soon as Chu Zhen parked the car, I got out and walked towards the orphanage.

"Follow me." Before I could agree, Chu Zhen took my hand. As our fingers intertwined, I lost my composure again. Over the years, every physical contact with Chu Zhen had made me blush. Fortunately, Chu Zhen didn't see my current state.

We arrived at a recreational area, and with so many children, I couldn't recognize Chu Lin. He must be almost four years old by now!

"Daddy Chu, you've come to see me!" A boy ran over and went straight to Chu Zhen.

“Chu Lin?” I looked at the little boy in front of me. Among all the children, he stood out so much.

"Aunt Lin, you've finally come to see me!" Chu Lin actually recognized me. I remember the last time I came to see him, he was only a little over a year old!

"Aunt Lin, you look much better than in the photos, but you don't seem as chubby as in the photos!" It turned out that he recognized me from the photos. I squatted down and touched his chubby face, which was very cute. When he said "Aunt Lin," my heart melted. I hugged him and tears involuntarily fell down my face.

"Aunt Lin, why are you crying?"

"Mom is so happy to see you. I'm sorry it took so long to see you." I hugged him tightly. Even though I had lost all contact with Chu Zhen, this child was someone I could never sever ties with.

After speaking with the dean, we took Chu Lin to the amusement park and ate KFC. Chu Zhen smiled, and my heart melted again.

We didn't take Chu Lin back to the orphanage until nightfall. Seeing Chu Lin's reluctance to leave, I promised him that I would visit him every week from now on.

“You’ve lost a lot of weight,” Chu Zhen said.

"It's okay, I used to be quite chubby." Actually, I used to weigh 100 pounds, but now I only weigh around 80 pounds. For someone who is 165 cm tall, this weight is indeed quite light.

"What would you like to eat?"

"Whatever!" Chu Zhen's words made me realize I was actually a little hungry.

My casual remark led Chu Zhen to take me home. When I saw him still entering "0610" as the password, my heart fluttered again—the day we first met, the day we officially became a couple.

The house was exactly the same as before, without any changes.

"Sit down for a bit, I'll go cook," Chu Zhen said as she went into the kitchen.

"Actually, my cooking skills are pretty good now. Would you like to try some?"

"Forget it, you can rest now!"

I sat on the sofa, a newspaper on the coffee table—the very one that published my article. It should have been several months ago, so why was it still there? Watching Chu Zhen's busy figure, I felt a little bored. Actually, it was curiosity that got the better of me, so I started to wander around the room, looking for any signs of anyone else coming and going.

The bedroom was still the same, all gray, except the photo on the bedside table hadn't been changed. It was a photo of the two of us. We used to joke that we had to leave a trace of me so he wouldn't bring other women home.

"Dinner's ready!" Chu Zhen's voice came from the living room. I quickly composed myself and ran over.

"Why do you still like to run?" Chu Zhen said to me with a smile. Only then did I realize that I always ran in front of Chu Zhen.

"I'm used to it!" I sat down at the table. There was sweet and sour pork ribs, steamed sea bass, braised bamboo shoots, and chicken soup.

"You've made so many dishes in such a short time?" I knew Chu Zhen could cook, but I didn't expect it to take so long.

"I had some in the fridge, just heat it up, eat up!"

Chu Zhen served me a bowl of chicken soup. Although I hadn't had it for a long time, it still tasted the same as before.

During the meal, we were relatively silent, not knowing what to talk about. Chu Zhen kept putting food into my bowl, but stopped feeding me.

"It's getting late, I'm going home!" After resting for a while after dinner, I checked the time and prepared to go back.

"I'll take you there~" Chu Zhen got up from the sofa.

"No need, you've had a long day, you should rest!"

Chu Zhen didn't say anything, walked to the door, grabbed his car keys, and walked ahead of me. Since he was offering to drive me, I figured I might as well. Actually, I was also looking forward to spending more time with Chu Zhen.

I kept looking out the window in the car to avoid communicating with Chu Zhen.

"Don't go!" Chu Zhen said when they arrived at the apartment building.

"Huh?" I didn't understand what he meant.

"Stay where I can see you, where I can find you anytime. Don't wander off." Chu Zhen looked straight ahead, not at me.

"Oh~" I unbuckled my seatbelt, picked up my bag, and prepared to get out of the car, but my hand was suddenly pulled back, and I fell backward into Chu Zhen's arms.

"Lin Dang, I missed you!" Chu Zhen whispered in my ear. My heart skipped a beat the moment I fell, and her words made my heart race and my face turn red.

"I can't lie to myself. I want to pretend I don't care about you, but I can't. I can't suppress the urge to see you," Chu Zhen whispered in my ear, knowing my sensitive spots. Yes, my ears are my sensitive area.

"Um, my back hurts a little." My back was pressing against the armrest box.

Chu Zhen helped me up. "Can you not go back? Stay with me today." His eyes were sincere, and his tone was more like a plea. I almost fell for him. But I'm not the same person I was a few years ago.

"It's too late, I have to go upstairs." I pushed open the door and continued running upstairs.

I admit, I was smitten by Chu Zhen's actions and words. Thankfully, I'm no longer an naive young girl. Thinking about Chu Zhen's previous indifference, I'm not sure if things will ever be the same between us again.
