Chapter Sixteen: Zero Emotional Intelligence
"I said I don't need it. Have breakfast and come out with me for a bit!"
Where are we going?
"shopping mall!"
What are you doing?!
"Buy some bedding; I don't want someone to sleep in the master bedroom next time they stay over."
Judging from his appearance, he probably didn't get enough rest last night. I thought he was a gentleman, but it turns out he was just pretending. Maybe he didn't expect me to be so unceremonious as to stay here!
"Let me wash the sheets for you; I drank last night, they smell of alcohol."
"No need."
"It's okay, we can put it in the washing machine now, and hang it up to dry after we get back from the mall. It's no trouble at all~"
"It's made of mulberry silk, so it can't be machine washed; it needs to be taken to a dry cleaner."
Good heavens, no wonder I slept so comfortably; the duvet cover was so good. I don't even dare to ask what the mattress is made of anymore.
"There's some lipstick on the pillowcase!" I said guiltily, knowing it was better to confess than for him to find out.
"It's okay, I'm not used to sleeping with a pillow! Let's have breakfast!"
It turns out that the milk bread he was talking about wasn't the sliced bread I was thinking of. The imported milk was smooth, the bread looked quite high-end, and he even fried sausages and poached eggs, and made a fruit salad. Indeed, a refined man doesn't settle for less.
"I didn't know you could cook. It tastes pretty good."
“Studying abroad all the time, this is an essential skill.”
"Did you study abroad?"
That's when I realized that despite knowing Chu Zhen for so long, I didn't know him at all.
Which school did you graduate from?
"Colombia."
"Wow, that's amazing! Is it Columbia's School of Journalism and Communication?"
Yes! You know that?
"Of course, that's top-tier. I didn't expect you to be so capable. Why didn't you stay in the US? I have a senior who went there as an exchange student, and now he's doing his own show on a local TV station, and the ratings are pretty high!"
"You have a lot of senior students!"
"It's alright, it's alright~ So you just got back? I heard from Cao Gang that you only started a new program at the TV station this year!"
"Having an overseas degree makes it easier to find a job. See, it's not that easy to find a job, is it?"
"Do you think I'd believe that? Never mind, let's not talk about that. But you've certainly impressed me."
"Oh, shouldn't I feel lucky?" Chu Zhen's face clearly showed a smile; this man's face changed so quickly.
After dinner, Chu Zhen took on the task of washing the dishes. Watching his back in the kitchen, I imagined our future life together. A man like that, a life like that, must be incredibly blissful.
“I don’t really like those flashy colors either, but they don’t have to be so gloomy. Actually, this off-white color is quite nice, don’t you think?” Seeing that Chu Zhen was reaching for the dark four-piece bedding set again, I immediately picked out a set that I had my eye on and showed it to him.
"Okay, I'll buy this set!"
Surprisingly, he was quite decisive.
"Compared to the current Mediterranean style or European style, I prefer your home's decoration. However, warm colors are more conducive to falling asleep."
"I think you slept quite well last night."
"That's because of drinking alcohol. Alcohol can numb you and make you fall asleep easily."
"Actually, this set is quite nice too, very suitable for young couples these days." The sales assistant came over to introduce it to us as she watched us picking out items, perhaps thinking that young people these days lack experience. "And this set is made of silk and cotton, very comfortable, you can feel the fabric."

"It's pretty good. Could you get me a new one?" Just as I was about to explain our relationship, Chu Zhen surprisingly let the sales assistant get it for me. You see, it was a bright red quilt with cute embroidery of cartoon dolls.
"Are you buying a wedding set? Would you like to take a look at this ten-piece set? It's very festive!" The sales assistant pointed to a wedding series set on display. It really is very nice. If I get married in the future, I will definitely like this set. Although the gold dragon and phoenix on it is a bit old-fashioned, it is really festive.
"We don't need this for now." I smiled and declined, worried that Chu Zhen might impulsively buy it.
Men are quick at buying things; even taking time off the road, the hotel bedding was ready in just one hour.
I'll get off at the next intersection.
"After lunch, rest for a while, then we'll go out together tonight!" Chu Zhen showed no intention of stopping the car.
"I need to go home to wash up and change my clothes. I still smell like skewers!" Smell like skewers? My god, wasn't the smell even stronger last night? Doesn't silk absorb odors more easily? I only noticed the lipstick on the pillowcase this morning and completely ignored the smell. Can Chu Zhen even sleep in this bed?
"Why aren't you coming down?" I then realized that Chu Zhen had already parked the car downstairs.
"Oh, thank you!" I quickly got off the bus. Oh well, my image is already bad enough, so what's a little more reputation for being unkempt?
"Get some rest, same place tonight!" Chu Zhen said and drove off. Sigh, no matter how handsome a man is, it's useless; his emotional intelligence is practically zero.
