Chapter Sixty-Four: Lost and Found
After dinner, Chu Zhen and I went to our lodgings. Almost all of Huang Yanyan's belongings were there, and I only had clothes. Since I had been living in the mountains for the past two years and hadn't bought anything, my last suitcase contained all my possessions.
I called Huang Yanyan and told her about it. Although she was very angry, I could clearly feel the excitement in her voice. In the end, she still wished me well, but she still let me keep the key. This place will always be my safe haven. If I suffer any grievances, I can always have a place to stay.
"Lin Dang, take a day off tomorrow and go back to City B to visit your parents!" After everything was packed up, Chu Zhen made me a cup of milk, and it felt like I was back in the old days.
"I didn't go to work today, but I can make up an excuse to go to the urban construction meeting. I can't skip work tomorrow, so why don't we wait a bit before going back?"

Look at all the years we’ve wasted.” I walked to Chu Zhen’s side, hugged him, and looked up at him. “From now on, no matter what, we should just talk about all our problems directly. I don’t like your indifference, and I’m not a warm person either. Your indifference will only push me further and further away.”
"No, it won't happen again." Chu Zhen hugged me tightly, a strong and reassuring embrace.
Chu Zhen and I started living together. His work hours were different from mine, but he still insisted on taking me to work every morning. I would also make breakfast and wait for him to come home. Our life was ordinary but exceptionally warm.
"Lin Dang, Teacher Chu is in the hospital right now." Just as dawn was breaking, I received a call from Xiao Ai, and my groggy state instantly vanished.
"What happened? How did you end up in the hospital?" I immediately got up and asked while getting dressed.
"Teacher Chu has been stabbed! Come quick!" Xiao Ai's voice was trembling with tears. I didn't ask any more questions, and rushed to the hospital without even washing up.
At the entrance to the operating room, Xiao Ai and another colleague stood at the door.
"Where is Chu Zhen?" I asked anxiously.
"Teacher Chu is in the operating room, Lin Dang, I'm sorry, it's all my fault," Xiao Ai said, crying, her eyes already red and swollen.
"Tell me slowly, what happened?"
“My friends and I were at a bar when we came out and encountered a few drunk people who blocked my way and started groping me. There weren’t many people around, so we could only shout. At that moment, Teacher Chu arrived. There was no reasoning with the drunks, so we started fighting. I don’t know where that person got a knife from, but he stabbed Teacher Chu in the chest.”
"Lin Dang, I'm sorry, it's all my fault~" Xiao Ai kept blaming herself, clearly frightened. Hearing Xiao Ai say that she was stabbing herself in the chest, my heart clenched.
"Alright, Xiao Ai, let's wait and see~"
"Lin Dang, are you alright?"
Perhaps seeing that I was too calm, Xiao Ai became worried about me.
"I believe Chu Zhen will be alright. He wouldn't leave me alone. He'll be fine." I held Xiao Ai's hand tightly to calm her down, but actually, I wanted to calm myself down.
The surgery took a long time; the doctor didn't come out of the operating room until 9 a.m.
Who are Chu Zhen's family members?
"I...I'm his fiancée." I rushed forward. "Doctor, how is Chu Zhen?"
"The surgery was successful. Fortunately, the sharp blade did not damage the heart, but there was a lot of bleeding, and he is currently in a coma."
The weight on my heart finally lifted. Xiao Ai and another colleague settled Chu Zhen into her hospital room first, and I followed the doctor to complete the various admission procedures. When my name was signed by the family member, my heart felt warm.
Chu Zhen woke up the next afternoon. I took leave from work and stayed by her side.
"It's so good to see you again," Chu Zhen said with difficulty, her eyes full of tenderness.
"Hmm~" I held Chu Zhen's hand tightly, feeling his body temperature before I felt at ease. "Is there anything wrong? The doctor said you lost too much blood, which is why you were unconscious for a longer time. Are you dizzy?"
"It's nothing, my lips are just a little dry!"
The doctor had warned me that I might be thirsty when I woke up, so I dipped a cotton swab in some water and applied it to Chu Zhen's lips. But then Chu Zhen used a little force, and my body ended up on top of him, my lips pressed against his face.
"This is too slow~" Chu Zhen held my head and kissed me directly. The original jasmine fragrance had turned bitter. Chu Zhen kissed me deeply, and I responded to the kiss with all my might. We were unwilling to let go of each other because of that feeling of having lost something and then regaining it. We stayed together until the nurse came in to take our temperatures.
"I'm sorry~" the nurse said, blushing slightly.
"It's alright, go ahead and take your temperature. I'll go get some hot water." I made an excuse to leave, but actually, my heart completely broke down at that moment. From the moment it happened until now, I hadn't shed a single tear. Apart from my colleagues at the TV station, I hadn't told anyone about Chu Zhen's situation. I forced myself to hold on; I didn't want to see Professor Huang and Grandma worried. Because I believed that Chu Zhen would wake up. Thank God, he finally heard my prayers, and Chu Zhen is safe and sound. Only then did my tense nerves relax, and tears started flowing uncontrollably.
After finding a secluded spot and calming myself down, I returned to the ward with a smile on my face. Chu Zhen said he liked my smile the most, and I should face him happily.
"Chu Zhen, let's get married~" When we arrived at the ward, Chu Zhen kept his eyes fixed on the door. When I came in, I could clearly feel the joy in his eyes. That look gave me hope for the future.
"Silly boy, what woman takes the initiative?" Chu Zhen patted the edge of the bed, gesturing for me to sit down.
"Once I've recovered, I'll go see your parents, and then we'll have both sets of parents meet."
"No, the household registration book is with me. Let's go get the marriage certificate right away! I can't wait~" I'm really afraid of losing him. Professor Huang is right. Our jobs all have a risk factor, so I want Chu Zhen to have a family, to make the family a constraint for him to do many things. I know that this may be selfish, but so what? I just want to be selfish this once.
"Lin Dang, I love you, so I will always respect you and all etiquette. That's how I show my love for you, believe me~" Chu Zhen patted my head, his eyes so firm that they made me feel at ease.
