Chapter Twenty-Eight: Back to Dawn

Chapter Twenty-Eight: Back to Dawn

Song Ji-hyo said that Chu Zhen frantically searched for her that day. When she learned that she had gone to the fire scene, she rushed there immediately. At that moment, she understood perfectly why her efforts over such a long period of time had not been rewarded. Chu Zhen already had someone in her heart, and that person was her.

"You're overthinking it. We're really not boyfriend and girlfriend, at most we're just friends!" Actually, the moment I saw Chu Zhen in the fire, I felt relieved, because when I was in the house filled with thick smoke, the only people I thought of besides my parents were Chu Zhen.

“You treat him as a friend, but he may not treat you as a friend,” Song Ji-hyo said. “There is no other explanation for a normally aloof man losing his temper than love.”

"Ji-hyo, I didn't lie to you." We're both interns, and I don't want there to be any distance between us because of Chu Zhen.

"Lin Dang, I know you're not lying to me. Don't worry, I'm not the kind of person who can't live without anyone. Besides, I was already planning to give up anyway. I was just comforting myself, thinking that maybe Chu Zhen would be moved next time." Clearly, Song Zhixiao is a rational girl. Work is work, and feelings are feelings.

"Are you up to something? I haven't had breakfast lately." Chu Zhen invited me out for breakfast. Since that conversation, Song Ji-hyo has never brought me breakfast again.

"You act like you've eaten this before." I dipped the fried dough stick in soy milk.

"Oh, looks like we have a spy in our group. How do you know such private matters? Tell me, who did you plant?"

I ignored him. I once suspected that Chu Zhen had a dual personality. When he was serious, he made people afraid to speak, but when he laughed, he was so unserious.

"If you don't say anything, I'll take that as a yes. There's really no need to plant anything. If you want to know anything, just ask me, or come to my group!"

"I'm not going." I refused as soon as I finished speaking.

“Lin Dang, you know that very few people refuse me, but you are one of them.”

"Really? If no one rejected you, would your team be so small?" I sneered. "I've been at the station for a while now, and I know your character very well, Teacher Chu! There must be people rejecting you in every program team throughout the entire station!"

"It seems that assigning you to the station was a mistake. Fortunately, you're just an intern."

"What are you doing, planning to kill me to silence me?"

"Is it really necessary? I'm capable of asking the station director for an intern. Don't worry, just be prepared to work by my side!"

Later, Chu Zhen said that I am a sentimental person and prone to impulsive actions. No matter where I am, it is better to stay by his side so that he can feel at ease. Otherwise, in addition to work, he would have to worry about where I am every day.

Chu Zhen kept his word. That very night, Song Huai told me it was such a pity that someone as talented as me was being wasted on "Before Dawn." But no one dared to compete with Chu Zhen for the person he wanted. That night was my first and last dinner at the "Today's Livelihood" gathering.

Song Ji-hyo said, "Lin Dang, through this incident, I can confirm that Chu Zhen likes you. If you like her too, then stop testing her and go for it without hesitation."

Chu Zhen placed another desk in his office, complete with small figurines, green plants, and even a lumbar support on the chair and a water glass on the desk.

"Welcome back! My comrade!" Chu Zhen extended a hand of "friendship".

"You did this." I didn't shake his hand. I went straight to my seat. I had held hands with Chu Zhen a few times, intentionally or unintentionally, but every time I would blush and my heart would race, so I deliberately ignored his outstretched hand.

"How about it? Not bad, right? I've seen these things in your room; I think you'll like them!"

"Hmm, it's alright, thanks!" I felt a warmth in my heart; Chu Zhen had put his heart into it.

"Then get back to work." Chu Zhen turned around and sat back in his seat. Only then did I realize that I could see him when I looked up, and he could see me too.

Chu Zhen is so manly when he's working. No wonder people say that a man who is serious is the most handsome. I was completely mesmerized by Chu Zhen.

"Have you seen enough?" Chu Zhen asked without looking up.

"Do you have eyes in your head? Who's looking at you?" I said nervously, like a thief caught red-handed.

"Let's go, let's go outside. I'll give you a chance to be alone with me so you can take a good look at me." Chu Zhen stood up.

Where are we going?

"Just bring a voice recorder."

I slung my bag over my shoulder and followed Chu Zhen. As we left, I noticed Xiao Ai looking at me with a hint of pity. Later, Xiao Ai told me that after I left, Chu Zhen went back to his tyrannical mode, and the whole group suffered as a result. Now that I'm back, someone has finally shielded them, but it's been tough on me.

"A children's welfare home? What are you doing here?" Chu Zhen stopped when he arrived at the entrance of the welfare home.

"I found a baby in the bamboo forest last time."

"When? Why didn't you tell me?" I had no idea.

"Does this mean I have to report everything to you from now on?" Chu Zhen asked, leaning closer to me. Well, why would he tell me this? I've dug myself into a hole again.

"Let's go, let's go see~" I hurriedly got out of the car. I couldn't stand Chu Zhen getting so close to me; I was afraid I would act impulsively.

Chu Zhen found a baby boy. After the orphanage examined him, he was found to be a normal baby boy. It is rare for people to abandon a baby boy. The director analyzed that he might be too young, had done something wrong, and was unable to raise him, so he had no choice but to abandon him. Despite the reports from various sources, no one came to claim him. Therefore, the orphanage temporarily took him in, waiting for a kind person to adopt him.

"How old is he now?" I looked at the little life, sleeping so peacefully.

"Fifteen days old, with a note indicating the baby's birth time left in the swaddling clothes. I really don't know how they could be so heartless as to leave such a tiny child outside. If Mr. Chu hadn't found out, the consequences would have been unimaginable!" The dean shook his head.

"Wah~" As he spoke, the little guy started crying, whether he was woken up or hungry.

"Oh, good boy, good boy~" The director rocked the cradle, and the little guy calmed down. But he must have woken up already, his eyes rolling as he looked at us. He was so cute.

"Dean, can I have a hug?"

"Sure, but the baby is very soft now, so you'll have to support him a bit." Under the director's guidance, I slowly took the baby out of the cradle.

The little guy calmed down when he was in my hands. Perhaps it was a woman's innate maternal instinct, but I suddenly had the urge to adopt him.

"Dean, can I adopt?" When I asked this, I saw both Chu Zhen and the dean looking surprised.

"Are you married?"

"No! Can't you adopt if you're not married?" I knew nothing about the requirements for adoption.

"For marriage, both husband and wife must be at least 30 years old and have sufficient financial means to raise and educate their children."

Neither Chu Zhen nor I meet the adoption requirements, so we can only wait for a kind person to adopt us.

We spent some time with the little guy before heading back, but my heart was still preoccupied with that child. I always felt that he and Chu Zhen were destined for each other, otherwise why would Chu Zhen have picked him up?
